FAQ
Q. Why do you speed up some of the footage in your videos?
A. We don't, we film it as time-lapse footage. We do not have the battery capacity or data storage to film in real time as our cruises can last up to 7 or 8 hours. We use to the time-lapse footage to help tell the story of movement rather than showcase the scenery. We limit the amount of time-lapse shots we use in each vlog.
Rain and more rain. Forecast ok for weekend and the Trent is now proceed with caution so here's hoping I can get going again. Take care you three.
Fingers crossed!
just done the wigan flight today with help from volunteers from the crt👍 4 hours ish...
Well done! M
Been following you guys for a long time!! See you soon.. From sunny South Africa!!
Enjoy that sun! Unusually wet and cold for May over here! M
Good to see BWB/CRT have not standardized all locks. Thanks for your videos.
I don’t think they even could, given that they’re all listed structures and they can really only be replaced if they completely fail. M
All hand dug with help from my forefathers. Lovely vid.
Thanks to your forefathers! M
Ahh, Poolstock bottom lock: site of the "best" bladeful ever. A tracksuit top, a go-kart tyre fender (with rope) and a length of razor wire; all at the same time. That was fun!
Good gravy, that sounds terrible! M
You three always bring a smile to my face. A rare and much needed commodity in today's world for sure. Thank you for that. Take care and God Bless, Paul from Florida.
Glad you’re smiling! M
Regarding the rain, "welcome to Lancashire" we are used to it!
Well hopefully we get used to it too! Before drowning! M
This brought back memories. Forty six years ago we had our honeymoon on the L&L and were set adrift during the night on the Leigh side of Plank Lane. Oh how we larfed! The Bickershaw colliery was still on the go then, although the pub on the other side of the bridge was boarded up. I can't believe that once was a scene of industrial devastation is now so green.
It’s nice to think that all we’ve got to do for the world to recover and go green is simply stop making a mess. M
An excellent and and informative video as always, thank you! Jo, I received your map today, and I am very pleased with it. It will be a great aid to planning. Great service from Anna Marie too in sending it over. Best wishes, Nick (NB City of Durham - the Pink Panther).
Glad you liked the video, and thanks for buying the map! M
Great vlog as per usual Micheal and Jo... cheers..
Thanks! M
Love the outtakes.
Thanks! M
Beautiful area !! : )
Thanks! M
Given where you moored in Wigan, I suspect the smell of cooking was the main Galloways' Pie factory! That's not too far from the canal in the centre of Wigan, which has a pretty big pie thing going on.
Ahh, yeah that could be it. The cooking smell occasionally got overpowered by some rather less pleasant smells, but returned the next morning. M
Love watching these. Add to my bucket list of Liverpool & Abbey Road. I want to ride a Narrow Boat.
Totally recommend it! M
The mechanical lock gates seam a good idea. Looking forward to the Ribble link.
They’re definitely interesting... shame there’s not more of them to see if they really help! M
Very enjoyable vlog....thanks for sharing
Thanks! M
great video
I paused it at the end so I could find out the t-shirt link, and make good use of it!
Thanks! There’s not much up there yet, but Jo’s encouraging me to add more. M
@@MinimalList I loved the wookie shirt, so I had to get it. I am in one of the red strongholds of Southern California, so I held off on the other shirt. I am sure the rest of the family will want a wookie shirt once they see this one!
Got your map yesterday. Thank you it makes the canals so much clearer. Well done for making it Jo.
Thanks for getting a copy! Glad you like it! M
Did you see the famous Wigan Pier? It is a famous landmark.
I believe we pass it in the next video upcoming, though didn’t realize it was famous in its own right! M
@@MinimalList When you have seen it I will tell you why it is so famous.
Never realised that there were different types of locks, just watched Floating Our Boat use a guillotine lock, which looks a bit hairy. Lovely vlog, I definitely think you should apply for sponsorship from Lidl! And just 35 miles from the Muddy Pool. Take care
Oh yeah there’s a lot of variation in locks, though most are of the mitre-lock variety. Haven’t been through a guillotine lock yet! M
Always interesting and entertaining, thanks.
Thanks! M
Weather forecast seriously bad in next week or the one after.
Artic snow on the way.
Get into a marina / or near shops.
Great vlog
Keep safe
David Sedlickas. As a hire boater, even an enthusiastic one, I don't think we would be allowed on the Ribble Link, but even if I wasn't, I think I would be concerned. I am concerned, for Minimal List. I was fascinated to watch 'The Foxes Afloat' do the Ribble Link a little while back and their weather was very moderate and it still looked......bracing. (Or character building - one of those euphemisms.)
We are afloat from tomorrow (Saturday) yippee! But only on the GU and the 'common' bit; Wigram's Turn to Stoke Bruerne. Maybe back for the Napton flight, but it can huff and puff and it won't matter that canal boats have all the seakeeping qualities of a coracle. I was once driving a rather shabby narrowboat on an open part of the Thames. We got blown almost directly sideways onto a windward bank and had to pull all sorts of stunts to get off and back to where we needed to be.
I suspect the CRT people won't release boats onto the Ribble if conditions are dangerous, but I am, nevertheless, 'officially', concerned.
Don’t worry about us on the Ribble, we’ve already gone up and down and the weather was great. The videos are behind us by a few weeks, so we’re well off the dangerous bits before the winter truly hits. M
I'm mystified by all the different locks. I think there are not two locks in the entire UK system that are the same. Amazed from NE Ohio USA. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
There are flights with much more consistency, but overall the whole system was assembled piecemeal by many different companies at different times, with much retrofitting since... so yeah it’s definitely a patchwork! M
‘Twas like a trip down memory lane. We took the same route and stopped in the same places when we moved our boat from Preston Brook to the marina in Scarisbrick. Are you planning to moor up for winter? 👍
Nope, we’re going to keep moving... though as we’re stuck because of two emergency closures right now we might end up de facto moored up longer than we’d like. M
Michael went a bit Scotty Kilmer at the end there "and ring that bell..." Lol.
Don’t know Scotty Kilmer, so I’ll have to ask Jo about that one! M
@@MinimalList he's an American car youtuber, his signature ending is the same. But he actually rings a bell. He's pretty well known amongst all the car RUclipsrs
its all a blur lol its age jo ,,,, great as always guys
Thanks, but it’s speed doing all the blurring! M
U are the spit of Richard Kuklinsli, hope ur a bit more chilled out.
Dude was utterly bald on top and had tiny little lips! I swear I only look like him if squinting, or maybe running away! M
Really do like the narration Jo.
She does a good voiceover! M
Question from Maine, US why can’t you use cover attached to rear of boat, something similar to my Bimini on my boat. Keeps me dry on long hauls in pouring rain, and folds for dry times or sunshine.
John Caron Some boats have them, however they are rarely used while cruising, the many and frequent low bridges on some canals make them impractical to keep up while underway.
For low bridges all I ever needed to do was pull a pin on either side and poles for cover, collapsed down to clear low bridges in high tides. Re-attach pins and keep on boogying, lake, river or ocean.
The main reason we don’t have one is expense and the problems of attaching one to a semi-trad. On narrowboats they’re known as Pram Hoods and they’re most common on cruiser sterns, which tend to have them added when new built, where we’d have to pay for a bespoke retrofit. M
u really need a long duster jacket Michael. lol
Heh... not unless I get a pair of Walker Colts on crossed belts and a pit pony. M
I was wondering what they did in the really old day of barging. I don't know when umbrellas came in.?
Back then they’d have proper oilcoats on, and be more or less waterproof. Also they were the sort of people that were readily described as “hardy”, unlike us of today. M
👍Aren't the Lidl quasonks the best !! By the way ,love your T shirt add. I m an Artist so I'm looking forward to next year when I get 20:20 vision.🎨😉
We’re all waiting for perfect hindsight! M
When are you coming up the Wigan flight? Been following you from the beginning waiting for you to sail past us at White Bear Marina at Adlington.
Well, we were hoping to go up this coming Tuesday, but apparently there’s been a culvert failure, so now it depends on wether that gets fixed before or after the flight in Manchester that’s also got us blocked. M
Looks like they are assessing the situation on Monday. They have moved some pumping equipment to site & have close navigation and the tow path ☹️ fingers crossed for a speedy fix.
I'd agree with the 90% Fruit Content...
What is the name of the music in this video? It is rather catchy.
