Ok. Aurora, the Haik documentary...where Yu get to know HER. It's in Norwegian, but there are subtitles, she really lets herself out. Impromptu concert in it, 2 of them, one ,just one song for 2 fans, and both Aurora and the 2 fans are surprised about it. Meaning, she didn't rehearse for more than 30 minutes for this wee concert, and the later the concert in a familiar Norwegian forest, she used to run wild in as a child. She didn't rehearse AT ALL for that one. She is a self taught musician, she literally taught herself piano, guitar, and singing NO LESSONS. That is AMAZING . She started writing melodies at age 6 and lyrics at age 9, the song Runaway she wrote at age 11. Go down the AURORA rabbit hole, Yu will be AMAZED. She is according to Mensa, a genius..she was tested as a child.
What make this song works so well, is the fact that it is very clear that those two singer are not in competition. They are not trying to impress the other one or show that they are better like so many other commercial duo you can listen. They both have amazing voices. The piano is also perfect, it underline the voices and make them shine even more. The piano is not in competition with the voices and all together it sounds beautifull.
Great to see you back to Aurora already. Your enthusiasm is palpable and appreciated! Aurora and Bjork are fans of each other, and in fact, in Aurora's fan-favorite 2018 KEXP Iceland mini-concert, Bjork was in the audience. "All Is Soft Inside" from that concert is insane! From your commentary, you'd obviously love the full version of Aurora's "The Seed." The music video is very powerful, as is the HAIK live version, which comes with a surprise, both for us and Aurora herself. I only know (so far) Collier from this video, but he does indeed have a very unique voice. Interestingly, he said he wanted to do some crazy stuff on the piano, but his hands were so cold, he was forced to dial it back, because he couldn't move them very fast (paraphrasing). And yet, it sure didn't sound dialed back!
@@TimWelchVocalStudio - That's a great recommendation as it is a wonderful live performance. Aurora has said she was influenced by Bjork. Aurora said this in an interview “I am often compared to artists like Björk and Florence and the Machine, but I don’t mind it. However, no one is like Björk, and no one is like me. Florence and I both have Mother Earth in our bellies, and we can really scream. But I am part of something beautiful that people do understand and don’t at the same time. It can be complicated and some like to put an artist into a box so they can understand them more - I get it, I like intellectual comparisons.”
Collier is a musical Savant. He has perfect pitch, a large vocal range with a nice timbre and I don't know how many instruments he can play -- probably all, and he's proficient in any of them. I can only listen to his works in homoeopathic doses during one sitting 'cos his compositions are borderline jazzy and very, very full and complex, the harmonics can sometimes become exhausting -- or he just plays a piano, but with a gazillion runs and arpeggios. Very, very impressive young man. I believe some people hate him for being genius level good and a "modern Mozart". Aurora ... well, she is a beautiful spiritual being from the Scandinavian forests who's descends onto the stage and lets us revel in her melodies and her airy voice.
@@larsem8 haha yes! With Aurora the only way I can describe the feeling I have from her is that my goosebumps have goosebumps. It’s just like next level nervous system activation that’s sometimes almost physically painful but like, in the most beautiful way.
OMG it's freezing cold in Svalbard. This is probably during the late summer. That he is able to play piano is very cold for the fingers. 👍 Now you have to react to Aurora "The seed" the official MV. It's also a forest consert with Aurora when she sings The Seed. Best regards from Norway 🇳🇴
Okay, this isn't fair. You keep introducing me to new artists and then deep-diving on them both technically and in appreciation of the lyrics so now I have to go off and find out more about them. What, you think I have nothing but leisure time?
This song is gorgeous. I love both artists.. please check Jacob’s Little Blue Mohagony session. It is in a church, with an improvised choir (people he called from his instagram account, fans or friends I guess). It is really lovely. He plays the guitar there (something he taught himself) and uses dissonance too. Thanks for your reaction and thanks for promoting all these deserving artists !
@@JuishHHITanother vote for Little Blue Mahogany sessions. The informal choir was formed from an invite on social media the day before for anyone to join him, wearing blue. There are a couple of singers (friends) but mostly amateurs. The third chorus the choir were told to sing whichever notes they wanted. The last section was not learnt, but singers responding to him in the moment. He refers to this at his concerts as an ‘audience choir’. He conducted audiences worldwide including 30,000 at Glastonbury Festival 2023.
Came in from splitting wood early this morning and saw .... THIS! The first time I heard this my heart just about burst. I still hold my breath during that scream! And now, you've reacted to it. Your analysis pointed out so much. Thank you! Their voices together are stunning. To me, it sounds wonderfully Nordic. Also, they must have been so cold.
Hey there! Thanks for checking it out, yes I believe you recommended this one also didn’t you? 🙌🏼💛✨ I want to hear more about this life where you are chopping wood in the mornings! 🙌🏼✨
@@TimWelchVocalStudio I asked if you were familiar with Collier and you said you are. 😃Our house is heated by our wood stove. I spend the winters splitting wood for it. I love doing it! 🔥
@@TimWelchVocalStudio I love Aurora because her music speaks to my soul and this is not an exaggeration. She has a way of making us cry, laugh and love that I have never felt before
I just discovered your channel. Your natural enthusiasm, combined with knowledge, is very inspiring. Excellent. Jacob Collier has said a big part of the performance was how the elements had a direct physical influence on their expressions. From how the cold forced his fingers to move stiffer, to how it also makes you tremble, and that also influences the voice. He also says Aurora is such a free spirit (And he can certainly deal with that😊). So even if they had done some pre-planning (It is a mash-up of his song "I'm Waiting On A Rock" and her "The Seed" ), A big part of it was just improvised fun. The scream is priceless. To my hearing, the grit (false-chord overtones) comes from Aurora. He has a more disciplined choral background. She is inspired by indigenous traditions and folk music.
Great to see you returned to AURORA so quickly after your first reaction. AURORA is truly one of a kind, isn't she. This time line shows how talented she is: Age 6: Started to follow dance lessons Age 6: Started to compose melodies Age 9: Started writing lyrics in her second language English Age 14: Her family discovered that she wrote her own songs Age 16: Recorded one song ("Puppet") as a gift to her parents Age 16: Performed a self written song ("I Had A Dream") at a school assembly Age 16: Gave up dancing (and her dream of becoming a professional dancer) to focus on singing Age 17: Released her first song "Awakening" Age 18: Released her first EP "Running With The Wolves" Age 19: Released her first full album "All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend" Age 19/20/21: Performed hundreds of live shows during her world tour Age 22: Released her second EP "Infections Of A Different Kind (step 1)" Age 22 (just before her 23rd birthday): Released her second full album "A Different Kind Of Human (step 2)" Age 24: The song "Runaway" (released in 2015) has gone viral on TikTok, hence turning Runaway into a world wide hit with over 1 million streams daily on Spotify and RUclips Age 25: Released her third full album "The Gods We Can Touch" Age 26: Features as main vocalist on the musical score of the new BBC documentary series "Frozen Planet II" Age 27 (just before her 28th birthday): Released her fourth full album "What Happened To The Heart" Age 28 (today): Recently started a world tour, titled "What Happened To The Earth" (with the word EARTH being an anagram of HEART), that will bring her to Europe, East-Asia, Australia, South-, Latin- and North-America
@@TimWelchVocalStudio My pleasure. And as an addition to my previous comment: AURORA is a self taught musician. In an interview for a Dutch newspaper in 2022 she explained that she taught herself how to play the piano at the age of 6, through listening to the classic music piece "Morgenstemning" (Morning Mood) by the famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, and then replicating the music on an old keyboard she found in the attick of her parental home.
Saw aurora just 2 weeks ago in London. The show was AMAZING. She is also soooo funny. You shouls check out a live performance were she also talks. Cop 26 is a concert thats very beautiful. Its 45min long tho..
Such impressive artists. I can't imagine what a challenging environment that must have been to sing and play piano in. I've been impressed by Jacob for a long time, but Aurora is someone newer to me that I've known for only a bit. Great choice! Had to edit to add that your part about musicians using their platform for change is a big reason for why I adore some artists like Sam Fender. I feel almost all his songs are that way. Even from his first release, his debut EP called 'Dead Boys', the lead single of the same name was about the suicide epidemic where he lives. Brilliant thought provoking stuff. I've also found out now that Aurora uses her music quite extensively for political activism - down another rabbit hole I go...
Absolutely the right path that's the way to go.... these two are absolutely great in their own individual rights and together they simply nail it........
It’s not a problem to enter Aurora and Jacob’s rabbit hole, it’s just pure pleasure, chills, tears and a crazy desire to (re)connect with people and nature. Thank you for this sincere and in-depth reaction. It’s nice to see you discover and analyze their subtleties. You pay tribute to their talent (unlike some who think it’s a green screen and that the ice cubes are added!)
New subscriber ... love Jacob Collier's brilliance .... love to see your great reactions go down this rabbit hole .. I feel you would be completely blown away. Also a big fan of Dimash. Thank you for your reaction, all the way from New Zealand
Full body goosebumps are the Aurora experience, I don't think you'll ever stop having those 😆 I'll second any recommendations to listen to the full/regular version of The Seed- it goes absolutely wild, it's incredible. Very different to this version, but with all of those harmonies you pointed out, all of that intensity and more. I don't have a specific live performance to recommend, but it's one of my favourites of hers.
Your friendly Italian producer here, good work again sir, that’s a masterpiece that left me speechless when it”s been released. I’ve already been down both this very special human beings rabbit holes (and REN’s too 🙂)… I won’t spoil you much, just watch some Aurora”s interviews (she’s neurodivergent and funny, goofy, deep in her unique way and just special), Collier is musically unbelievable and he plays every kind of instruments with a very personal twist: for example his guitars have only 5 strings because it makes more sense to him, just to give you a hint. Good luck if you wanna go down so many rabbit holes, I did it but I have really a lot of leisure time 😇 I could also suggest you other well deserved artists but I guess you have enough material to react till the end of the decade 😂 Good luck and love ❤️
Hi Tim, great reaction to a couple of very talented artists.... you do realise that you are now embarking on an epic journey of fantastic music that connects to your very soul...enjoy😅
Some other amazing Aurora songs which feature other singers to check out: It Happened Quiet, live at the Current studio (with Silja Sol) -- this song is kind of a sequel to Murder Song, which you will want to hear at some point, but isn't necessary to appreciate this one Also Aurora and Pomme, Everything Matters (Pomme is a French singer. My favorite of hers is the acoustic Les Oiseaux performed in a cemetery chapel with an autoharp.)
Yay, more Aurora!!! Live Aurora is pure magic. I have so many favorites it’s hard to choose what to recommend- but It Happened Quiet (live at the Current) is exceptional. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience in the music field
The line and the melody „You cannot eat money, oh no“ comes from Auroras song „The seed“, you may like it too, also the message and performance of it. Thank you for this great reaction to that phenomenal song!
The impact of this song, this collaboration, is indescribably profound…. To me, these two artists are a match made in heaven. Loved the way you listened respectfully, and shared your insights so eloquently 🙏 “My Mind” by YEBBA, live on Sofar, is another goosebumpy, deeply touching song by a great artist. And “Next To You” by Swedish fusion trio Dirty Loops, albeit not live, is also goosebump material. Jonah Nilsson, the vocalist (and keyboard player) from Dirty Loops, has been hailed as one of the greatest male vocalists of our time, with “…soul, and one of the biggest vocal ranges…” (Quincy Jones). Jonah happens to also be very good friends with Jacob Collier and has collaborated with him more than once. Links to both suggested tunes below. Thank you so much in advance 🙏👌
@@TimWelchVocalStudio hey Tim, I’m glad to hear. Yes, YEBBA completely blew my mind with this version of her song…. I had also posted a link to that Dirty Loops song I’ve mentioned, but it ‘didn’t stick’ - so below it is again :) 👍
Great reaction, I am not gifted musically in any way, but, I know what I like and I love Aurora's voice. She wrote the song The Seed after reading a letter written by Indigenous people, she also credited Earth as an artist on her last album, What Happened to the Heart. The royalties for the artist Earth go to a platform credited to support awareness and conservation of Earth, she walks the talk. Soulless Creatures is, IMO, Mother Earth crying out to us, the soulless creatures, beautiful song. Also, she is self taught on any instructment she plays, mostly piano and she never had voice lessons either, natural talent there. She took dance lessons for 10 years though, 6 to 16, she loves to dance. Thanks
You should really react to the documentary HAIK with Aurora. One most understand her as a person to really appreciate her singing. And if you can find a high quality version she also did sing live for BBC Frozen Planet 2.
That piano at the beginning is so beautiful. Like you said so intricately done and I think being able to see the hammers also helps with that. Very reminiscent of water droplets and the serene environment they are in. His beautiful warm voice in contrast to the icy settling- ahhhh! ❤❤❤ And their harmonies together xxx And what can we say about that end cry from the two of them Out into that emptiness and space of the beautiful, open air - crying for the environment, for the creatures, for Mother Earth 😮❤❤❤
I LOVE this reaction! Thank you so much for this amazing break-down of their techniques. I'm no singer but its so fascinating to learn about all this. If I may throw in my recommendations: Eivor is definetly an Artist I think you would greatly enjoy. Her voice is incredible and she does amazing things with it. Also another Norwegian band, Kalandra, also has an incredible Vocalist!! Keep up the amazing work :D
Aurora is one of the most authentic artists ive come across, i love her music so much. Id love to see you react to the full version of Auroras part in this video, The Seed. Very emotional.
The richness and depth in his voice kind of reminds me of the lead singer from Bastille! I would love to see you react to Finneas singing Lotus Eater on the Tonight Show!
@@TimWelchVocalStudioidk, I think that betwedn Dimash & Ren & Aurora (& perhaps Jacob; I don't have a good enough sense of him yet but I suspect he'll fit RIGHT IN on that list lol) we may have stumbled through the veil to a goosebump dimension...
I'm not any sort of vocal or musical expert, but I did notice something unusual with Aurora in this collab, and that was she was working the microphone. Normally, Aurora sings with the microphone, very close to her mouth. But in this performance, she was varying the microphone distance from her mouth quite a lot, appearing to use this to modulate her voice.
An artist that has an authentic fairy-like voice you should check out is Eivør Pálsdóttir singing Trollabundin live, specifically the version posted by 1210beth, where the thumbnail is Eivør sitting in a bluish shirt and has a wreath in her hair. Of course this will also point you to Einar Selvik of Wardruna or the band Heilung, or Kalandra
Loving your reactions to such an amazing singer. Your comment about letting the music flow through her uninhibited is spot on. Even if you don't do a reaction to it, you should definitely watch her NPR Tiny desk Concert from before her first album released. She was very new to the music scene still and her innocence in that performance, just raw with her and a guitar with companion vocals is amazing and truly embodies that freeness.
I found you through your Ren reactions, but am now just a fan across the board. Your breakdown of the vocal science on this track was one of the best analysis I've seen on RUclips. BTW: If you ever want to do a video where you do actually check it out with your sound analysis software, I, for one, would be totally down to watch something like that. I would also recommend the album Grinderman (Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn P. Casey, and Jim Sclavunos) as it has possibly the best consistent-usage-of-dissonance-as-an-effective-musical-tool that I have ever heard.
"Boy! That escalated quickly!!!" 😁Straight from one of her early concerts at 19 to her absolute latest performance at 28 (recorded early September), that must be a bit jarring. You skipped almost 9 years of amazing performances, vocal development and many different cool hairstyles 😂🤣 Her vocals has developed a lot specially in the last few years. I don't know if you are going back to the old performance now or staying with the newer stuff, but when you want to check her current vocals, the 2 newest Vevo live performances on her channel are great for that: "A Soul With No King" and "Some Type Of Skin". Both have amazing vocals in them, but the former is more "professional" while the latter is a lot more playful/spontaneous, she wrote on instagram after Some Type Of Skin: "I simply cannot decide if I want to play the piano or dance. I simply CANNOT". 😂 Btw, she was a dancer before she was a singer. She went to dancing school from age 6 to 16, and had to decide between pursuing music, dancing or high school, and she chose music, and dropped out of the 3rd year of high school at 18. As others have mentioned her song "The Seed" (you cannot eat money) has a powerful music video both visually and musically. But then again she also has a ton of cool live performances of the song, both powerful versions with the full band and stripped down acoustic versions.
I've been loving your reactions Tim. This is a fun one as Jacob Collier is one of my favorite artists. I heavily recommend reacting to his Choir rendition of Little Blue if you haven't already! Keep it up and keep growing as a channel!
If you like raw, primal vocals, check out Heilung. They're a Tribal European group who classify themselves as "amplified history." The main female vocalist, Maria, has some out of this world vocals! I recommend: In Maidjan (live): ruclips.net/video/kmWTZ3KfnXE/видео.html Anoana (live): ruclips.net/video/9PFz9FQsU8w/видео.html Othan (live): ruclips.net/video/GPV38e7yfSo/видео.html
I already made this comment in another reaction video, but why rewrite it if it still fits what I think 😉: The two voices fit well together and create an interesting harmony. Still, it must not have been easy to hold your tones in the cold, after all, you breathe in cold air and then force it back through your vocal cords. What also excites me again is that Aurora jumps a note in the last "Scream", which (I think) gives the "call" even more emphasis. And then the making off. The best part...everyone is smiling. Look at it and smile too 😉 ruclips.net/video/B7rs1KebStE/видео.htmlsi=AvYpwqlp1X2GTuKL ❤
Thanks for your reaction i like your reactions thank for information and all, please do performances of a soul whit no king performance for vevo by Aurora ❤️🍀
I just watched your other Aurora video and wanted to suggest this song. then I thought "hang on, better first checked if he reacted to JC before" and I am very happy to see this :D If you are up for something that isn't English: there is a German band whose singer has a PHENOMENAL voice. I've played a few concerts in Nidarosdomen and it is incredible!
She can receit Pye to many, many places, over 30, I believe!
Yes!
Her entire Nidarosdomen concert is pure magic!
Thanks so much for this comment and for the behind-the-scenes info. Very cool.
Thanks for this! 🔥👊🏼
Aurora consistently impresses me with everything she does. This duet is exceptional !!
Well, its needless to say, you need to react to 'The Seed' by Aurora now. LOL

Second that! It's one of my favorite performances of her's!
@@Heleyrineit's so good!❤
The harmonies are next level.
Hahaha!! This comment. 🙌🏼✨

Yeah I'll second that, it's a charming bit of loveleyness
Yes, Little Blue Mahogany sessions would be great to see your reaction.
A must reaction! Jacob Collier - Little Blue - Mahogany Session.
You are just flat out keeping us well fed with all these videos
lol! Yes. Feed that soul. 💛🙌🏼🔥😃

Yes, he is amazing also! A whole world of his own.

The Seed is one of my favorites 🎉
Going to see Aurora in Chicago late November. Love Aurora ❤
Oo!!!
I love that! Thanks for sharing.

@@TimWelchVocalStudio She is also the mysterious voice in Disney's Frozen 2 calling to Elsa with "oooo ooooo oooo oooo".
Aurora is just one of a kind. Love her so much
Oh WOW, this one blew me away!

Besides the music, this just looks unbelievably beautiful.
Saw aurora just 2 weeks ago in London. The show was AMAZING. She is also soooo funny. You shouls check out a live performance were she also talks. Cop 26 is a concert thats very beautiful. Its 45min long tho..
Aurora is absolutely AMAZING. you should check out "a soul with no king" live at vevo or "some type of skin" live at vevo
So amazing! Grateful for the recommendation to react to it.
This even surpasses the Soul with no King on Vevo by Aurora.

Full body goosebumps are the Aurora experience, I don't think you'll ever stop having those 😆
I'll second any recommendations to listen to the full/regular version of The Seed- it goes absolutely wild, it's incredible. Very different to this version, but with all of those harmonies you pointed out, all of that intensity and more. I don't have a specific live performance to recommend, but it's one of my favourites of hers.
Thanks for the this!
Your friendly Italian producer here, good work again sir, that’s a masterpiece that left me speechless when it”s been released.
I’ve already been down both this very special human beings rabbit holes (and REN’s too 🙂)…
I won’t spoil you much, just watch some Aurora”s interviews (she’s neurodivergent and funny, goofy, deep in her unique way and just special), Collier is musically unbelievable and he plays every kind of instruments with a very personal twist: for example his guitars have only 5 strings because it makes more sense to him, just to give you a hint.
Good luck if you wanna go down so many rabbit holes, I did it but I have really a lot of leisure time 😇
I could also suggest you other well deserved artists but I guess you have enough material to react till the end of the decade 😂
Good luck and love ❤️

Some other amazing Aurora songs which feature other singers to check out:
It Happened Quiet, live at the Current studio (with Silja Sol) -- this song is kind of a sequel to Murder Song, which you will want to hear at some point, but isn't necessary to appreciate this one
Also Aurora and Pomme, Everything Matters (Pomme is a French singer. My favorite of hers is the acoustic Les Oiseaux performed in a cemetery chapel with an autoharp.)
Everything Matters is my favourite favourite favourite Aurora song & Pomme is amazing ❤
Oh I love Les Oiseaux too pomme is one of my faves (right after Aurora of course)
Loved the way you listened respectfully, and shared your insights so eloquently 🙏
“My Mind” by YEBBA, live on Sofar, is another goosebumpy, deeply touching song by a great artist.

All i am going to say is Yes keep going, there is so much to explore with both Aurora and Jacob and all of it is amazing!
here we go again!
Thanks
that’s so amazing!
@@TimWelchVocalStudio your reaction was amazing too, thanks
You should really react to the documentary HAIK with Aurora. One most understand her as a person to really appreciate her singing. And if you can find a high quality version she also did sing live for BBC Frozen Planet 2.
But a great reaction ! Forgot the say that :)
That piano at the beginning is so beautiful. Like you said so intricately done and I think being able to see the hammers also helps with that. Very reminiscent of water droplets and the serene environment they are in. His beautiful warm voice in contrast to the icy settling- ahhhh! ❤❤❤ And their harmonies together xxx And what can we say about that end cry from the two of them
Out into that emptiness and space of the beautiful, open air - crying for the environment, for the creatures, for Mother Earth 😮❤❤❤
✨🙏🏼

Just beautiful!
My favorite Jacob Collier is "Little Blue" live. Please do a reaction. You will be wowed again! React to Jacobs "World O World" it is orgasmic!
Little Blue by Jacob Collier live in a cathedral is incredible!
I will be at her concert in Boston this December.
Ah! Jealous.
Wooooooow, I'm happppppy🥹💙✨

Loving your reactions to such an amazing singer. Your comment about letting the music flow through her uninhibited is spot on. Even if you don't do a reaction to it, you should definitely watch her NPR Tiny desk Concert from before her first album released. She was very new to the music scene still and her innocence in that performance, just raw with her and a guitar with companion vocals is amazing and truly embodies that freeness.
I love reacting to tiny desk performances!
Appreciate that, thanks!
you can also make a reaction to music video of "the seed"! it's insane
Lovely, big thanks.
"Boy! That escalated quickly!!!" 😁Straight from one of her early concerts at 19 to her absolute latest performance at 28 (recorded early September), that must be a bit jarring. You skipped almost 9 years of amazing performances, vocal development and many different cool hairstyles 😂🤣
Her vocals has developed a lot specially in the last few years. 😂
Btw, she was a dancer before she was a singer.
Thank you for this comment! I’m happy to fill in the middle parts I missed. 🙌🏼✨🙏🏼

I already made this comment in another reaction video, but why rewrite it if it still fits what I think 😉:
The two voices fit well together and create an interesting harmony.
