Thank you for watching! Have you tried using edible images yet? Let me know if you have or if you plan on getting an edible printer!
Hi Karolyn,
I finally got to use edible images for the first time tonight! Thanks to your tutorial it worked out perfectly!!
I just wanted to say thank you so much for explaining it so clearly! This video is a lifesaver for beginners!🙋🏼♀️
Stay safe and healthy!
Kind regards,
Merit (from the Netherlands)
@@meritlindis This makes me so happy!! Isn't it the best?! They really are easy to use. Just make sure you keep printing weekly tester pages (on regular computer paper) so the ink doesn't dry up in the printer!
Hi there, I don’t have a cake decorating business but I love making cakes and learning new techniques. Can you recommend me an inexpensive printer & ink for edible images? I want to buy one but for my use, I don’t need nor want to spend too much $...$300 to $500 is too much. I don’t mind paying the $30 for sugar paper vs rice paper but the printer needs to be less expensive 😞 for me to be able to buy one. Hope you can help me🙏
Looking online is super difficult because a lot of the time it doesn’t confirm if the ink is for edible images😞
@@mariahutter7081 check out the printer bundles on IcingImages.com. I got mine (printer, ink, cartridges, edible sheets) for $199!
@@KarolynsKakes: Thank you for your quick reply😊👍 can you send me the name or # info on the printer you got? Did you also paid $199 for the bundle?
Wonderful video! Thanks for all the great lessons I’ll definitely apply them to my cakes!
I'm so glad you're giving so many of us the courage to make beautiful cakes. You're the best.

Thank you sooooo much for this tutorial! I just got my very first edible printer for Valentine's Day (gift from the best fiance ever!) and I wanted to start educating myself on how to use the edible images. This video gave me so much useful information. I love how the cake design turned out! Can't wait to start my own cake!
He's a keeper! LOL
Seriously, the edible printer is so amazing. Don't forget to print a tester page on regular paper at least once a week to keep the ink running through the system so it doesn't dry out!

Amazing cake! & I loved your teaching you made it look simple but I've done cakes long enough to know that they are always harder than they look! My health is beginning to fail me so I no longer do cakes as an income & only do them for family or special friends. Feel so out of practice & not up to date on new technics. 90% of what I do is wedding cakes.

Hi Karolyn. I'm Andy (a man !) from England - I don't know if you get many men who watch your videos ! I'm just a hobby baker but I love to bake and decorate cakes. I have been thinking about getting an edible printer for a LONG time now, and watching this video made me finally get one ! The first cake I'm going to make with my new edible printer is a copy of this Paw Patrol cake. I hope you don't mind me using your design 🙂with a couple of changes - colours etc

Awwww thank you Maria! You’re so sweet! ☺️☺️
I love to watch you, your educational along with funny, you have a wonderful personality and along with learning and watching you make me laugh. One quick question, the PAW patrol decorations that you used were those made of fondant as well? I had to step away and missed a tiny bit of your video and didn't have time to go back. So, were the PAW patrol that goes made of fondant? And, have you ever had anybody tell you that they prefer no fondant because they just don't care for it and really don't want it on their cakes. I have and oh boy I ended up decorating without using fondant but, I find that it can really at times make a cake beautiful and then there's times I prefer not to use it at all. You are AMAZING and your funny. I truly enjoy watching and learning from you.
Hi Terri, thank you! All of the Paw Patrol decorations are edible images. The number on top, polka dots, collar at the bottom and curleys are fondant. I put the Paw Patrol edible images on a piece of fondant and then stick it to the cake. I do get people who ask for no fondant on their cakes. And I do explain that I ice my cakes in buttercream and decorate with fondant and most times, people just eat the cake and icing and leave the fondant decorations on the plate. (That's what I do.) But if they insist on no fondant, I will let them know what I can do with no fondant and let them decide. And thank you for thinking I'm funny! I get a little delirious being home alone! LOL
Hi!! I've learned too much from you! Thank you for your videos!!! Which do you prefer water or piping gel?
You're welcome Jenn! I use a lot of different mediums to stick decorations to cakes. I like water for some (lighter) decorations (think stripes and polka dots) and piping gel for heavier ones. Here's a video where I talk about the different ways to stick decor to cakes! ruclips.net/video/gfc0heeMRmY/видео.html
I LOVE YOUR TUTORIALS!!! Do you like that rolling pin??? I need one but everytime I buy one its no good. Anyway you would share the one you use please? Xo
Thank you! My mom got me the one I use a few years ago. I am looking to replace it because the ends always pop off. I may get this one next as I like the non stick ones! amzn.to/3vVMkMY
Fantastic cake and tutorial!
Were your fondant characters still pliable when you placed them, or were they hardened over night or few days?
Thank you! The dogs were still pliable. I kept them in a ziplock bag so they wouldn’t dry out because I didn’t want them to crack when I put them on the cake.
Very helpful video❤️
Which brand of fondant you use for your cake and imagen?
The only one I try is Wilton for my edible images because i make my cakes just with whipped cream icing.
Thank you!!!
I make my own marshmallow fondant. I linked the video of the recipe in the description!
Great tutorial as always!! 💯
How long can the edible ink stay well on the fondant? I was told it begins to fade in about 2 days? Is that so? I would like to pre-make the toppers well in advance just to save myself from last minute stress. Your advice please!
I've made them up to 5 days in advance with no issues. It may also depend on the ink and paper you use. I only use products from Icing Images!
Hi Karolyn, does the fondant slide off on the buttercream frosted cake if it gets a bit warm?
If you put a cake in the heat, yes, you could have issues with the decorations sliding. If you keep the cake cool (not refrigerated, but in a cool environment, out of the sunlight), they should stay in place. You can always anchor the decorations with a toothpick behind them. Just let your customers know if you do that!
If you don't have the buckle mold , just make it yourself. . With a square and poking 3 holes.
Hi Karolyn! I love your videos! Your Paw Patrol video was from a couple of years ago and you didn't say how much you charged for it. I've made one and just I'm just trying to get an idea of what I can charge for it. Would you mind sharing your price? Mine is a 6 inch 3 layer cake. Thank you!
Wow, Karolyn I'm going to ask the hubby for the printer for Christmas. Your cakes are amazing, your work is so clean, you go above and beyond and clearly are proud of your craft. I just like to bake for my family ,lol I have 11 grandchildren so with family I can keep really busy. How in the world do you stay so fit with all these sweets around ? Lol. I do have a question the Tylos has to be food safe but does it have a pleasant taste? I ordered it I'm just now waiting for it to get here
Thank you love! ☺️☺️
It requires a lot of will power and not skipping days at the gym 🤣
I found that Tylose doesn’t have a distinct taste. It just affects the texture.
Let me know how it goes with the printer!
I have card cut out images, what or how would I stick that on the front of the cake as you would using icing sheets ?
You can use a little piping gel on the back to get it to stick. But I wouldn't put it all over the card, just on the part that will stick to the cake.
Hey you make beautiful cakes!! I’m learning so much from you. How do you deal with potential copyright issues?
Some companies don't care and some do. Cocomelon has reposted my cakes and loved them. While others like Disney or Chanel aren't okay with it. You're taking a risk if you're selling them for profit. If you're unsure, it's best to either contact the company or make a simple design and let them add the decorations.
Hi, thank you for your tutorial, I have a question if you are using the edible image to wrap the whole cake do you still use back with fondant.
Look forward to hear from you,
Thank you 😊
I have done it with and without the fondant backing. I found that you must have perfectly straight sides if you want to wrap it without the fondant underneath. This is because the edible image may wrinkle / bubble in areas where there is a gap between the image and the icing. If your sides aren't straight, the fondant helps to keep the image flat. And sometimes you don't know until you try! Does that make sense? So you can hold up the image against the cake (before you would put anything on the back) just to see if it will stick without any gaps.
Another fascinating video. I am about to attempt using some edible images this week and just wondering if they will go in the fridge ok? I have previously used your method of fridging and slowly bringing to room temperature which worked a dream but wasn't sure if edible images would absorb more moisture
Yes! I refrigerate all of my cakes, even ones with edible images on them. Just make sure you control the room temp!
@@KarolynsKakes Thank you, your work is so perfect
You did and amazing job. I have learned to so much from you thank you. I just ordered my printer icingimaging im super excited to use it. I have question. I have to do a paw patrol cake of 8” what size do you think I should do the paw patrol logo?
That's wonderful! I love the printer, it really is the best!
I would say to measure the cake before you print the image out. If you are putting it on the front of the cake like I did in this video, measure from the bottom to the top of the cake. And then I print it a little smaller, taking into account the border. Does that make sense?
@@KarolynsKakes it does thank you. I appreciate you replying back

Love it! Could you please tell me what gel color you used in the buttercream to cover the cake. Thanks!
Hi! I used a TINY bit of royal blue. Like only 2 drops for the whole batch of icing.

Thank you for the video! How big is this cake and how many layers!? 😃
It's a 2 layer (torted) 6" cake 😊
Have you ever tried using images directly on the cake with out thin layer of fondant? I know with Swiss meringue it’s not a good idea but I also use American buttercream and was just wondering if you have ever tried it this way.
Yes, I have done it. Just know that there is more of a risk of it wrinkling or warping without the added layer of protection!
Can you please tell which paper you used
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Katolyn, How can I find edible images to print?
I just posted them for you! drive.google.com/file/d/1BzNrsn0SsTuyGDSArwD77vkf-DS9Cs7B/view?usp=sharing
Can i put these images on the side of a butter cream cake?
This is a buttercream cake in this video. Are you asking if you can just put the images right on the buttercream instead of on the fondant first? You definitely can. But I put the images on fondant to protect them from warping. Here's a short video explaining it!
ruclips.net/video/nu4pWkBH1Fo/видео.html
where do you get the images & what program do you use to size them?
Hi BettyAnn! I explain that in the video, watch at 16:00 😊
I get my supplies at Icing Images, I have them linked in the description below.
Hi Karolyn, what color did you use to get that gray for the cake base?
Hey! This is how I made the cake drum, it's just foil, not fondant. :)

@@KarolynsKakes I tried to make this paw patrol cake for my son birthday tomorrow... I am so very grateful to you.. it's not as good as yours but it not too bad😂 I will post the pictures on Facebook and tag you... Thanks again.
Struggling hard with my edible images…they always bubble 😩. Gonna try all these tips and tricks!
Try putting them down from one side to the other to prevent air bubbles from forming!
Would you be able to just add an edible image by itself with no fondant underneath when making a regular whipped cream cake
You just have to be cautious because whipped cream has a high liquid content and it could distort the image. If you do it, I’d wait until the last minute if possible!
@@KarolynsKakes oh ok thank you so much!!

What do you charge for this cake?
Gurl! You're the bomb! How much did your printer cost? It's $300 now.

Good morning Karolyn, I’ve been watching this video over and over because I was just asked to make a Paw Patrol cake for a little 3 year old boy who is allergic to gluten, eggs, dairy, dyes and pea protein (which is in some butters that are vegan). I’ve messaged you several times and you have always responded right away and I’d love your help mom this and, if possible, I’d buy a video session, so I can get the details just right for him. I do own an allergy free bakery, but , honestly, even this cake is a challenge for me. I don’t quite know how the cake structure will be so I’m spending this afternoon testing recipes to come up with the best flavors. What do you think? This is a mom who can barely afford this cake, so I’m trying to help give her the best I can.
Hi Donna! I don't recall seeing any. messages from you, I apologize that I haven't replied. I really don't make allergy free / gluten free cakes. I'm concerned about cross contamination and don't want to take the risk of hurting someone! I usually direct people to a gluten free bakery when I get those requests. So, unfortunately, I'm not sure what to recommend for a request this restrictive. I'm not even sure you can use the edible images on there if the boy is allergic to dyes. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help!
2 questions, do you mind if I replicate this cake also do you remember what size cake is this? I wanna say 8 inches
Please replicate this! That's why I made the video!
This is a 6" cake.
@@KarolynsKakes prefect size, what size cake drum? 10 inches?

@@KarolynsKakes Hi Karolyn! Love the tutorial! How many layers? I bought my Canon printer recently and I'm dying to try it out with this cake!

Hi Karolyn ! Can you tell me the dimensions of this cake please ? Thanks :-)
It's a 2 layer 6" cake, baked in 2" high pans and torted into 4 thinner layers. 😊
@@KarolynsKakes thank you 🙂
Hi Karolyn, this is Donna, I think my message came across wrong and I need to explain myself better! I wanted to say I’ve watched probably all of your videos and have asked you questions in the past and you have always been so helpless, so I wanted to know if you could help me in decorating this little boy’s Paw Patrol cake. I own an allergy free bakery and will be baking his cake here and I was just explaining that to you because our cake structures are not always the same as yours, but that is not my problem. I’m just wanting the best help possible in making his cake look like your Paw Patrol cake. I’ve ordered a set of the dogs and the logos in the same sizes you used for yours and I wanted to see if you had any time Wednesday or Thursday to give me advice on how to make my cake look like yours. I will be using a vegan buttercream, which I’ve never done before, but I’m going to put the icing sheets on the white fondant the way you’ve done because the entire family is allergic to food dye. Oh my goodness!! Am I taking on a challenge with this one! Mom has given me the ok to do all of this , so I’m good! I’m sorry for the confusion earlier! You didn’t miss my message at all.
Just me wondering how many hours to make this cake. 🤣🤣
Maybe 4-5 hours total?
Are u working in a room with AC?
If it's warm out (over 65 Fahrenheit), I will have the AC on!
