    A ruler marking gauge/ruler stopper is an essential woodworking tool every workshop should have. It is easy to make using ordinary tools around the shop. You will need only a few things to build this DIY tool yourself - discarded wood, a threaded insert, and a wing nut. Watch the entire video for a step-by-step guide on how to make a ruler marking gauge.
    I started out by cutting 2 rectangles from scrap wood that form the basis for the ruler marking tool. Sanded in a dado (groove) on one piece to fit the ruler in using a homemade sanding jig and sanded a tighter one on the other piece for the acrylic glass that presses against and fixes the ruler in place. I fixed the acrylic glass to the wood piece using epoxy resin. Drilled a hole in, used a threaded insert, and screwed in a wing nut.

    Did a rough build with what I had on hand and it turned out pretty good. Once I can safely go to a hardware store again to get the screw insert and a better wing nut screw I’ll give it another go. Attaching the sandpaper to the ruler blew my mind, great idea!

    There was me thinking I would have to router the grooves. Brilliant use of sticking down the sandpaper. I think I will use your knob making jig instead of a wing nut. Very well produced videos.

    I didn’t see you check anything for square but it seemed pretty square. How did you do that? Did you check and just not show it on video?

    • @AllFlavorWorkshop
      @AllFlavorWorkshop  Год назад +1

      Hello Alivia, yes, I did it off camera. I checked with a machinist square and made sure the sanding jig rails are perfectly parallel to each other.

    Very good and simple idea. How do you cut the acrylic glass? (I have never worked with it.)

    • @AllFlavorWorkshop
      @AllFlavorWorkshop  2 года назад +2

      Hello Tommy, this was actually a thin piece of acrylic. So I used scissors and sanded the edges afterwards. If it was thicker, then probably a circular saw or a trim router.

    The piece of acrylic was put in so you don’t mark up the ruler?

    • @AllFlavorWorkshop
      @AllFlavorWorkshop  3 года назад +3

      Hi Scott, pretty much yes. I was looking for something flexible that would not damage the ruler. And it presses down the ruler quite nicely. 👍

    The screw with the wing nut ?

    • @AllFlavorWorkshop
      @AllFlavorWorkshop  2 года назад

      Hi John, you can either get it at the store or you can make one by gluing a wing nut to a threaded rod.

    Where did you purchase your yellow ruler.

    • @AllFlavorWorkshop
      @AllFlavorWorkshop  Год назад

      I bought the yellow ruler at my local store. Let me take a look if there's one online too. ;)

  • @edodibujos
    @edodibujos Год назад +2

    This design is one of the simplest and most widespread, but it has several problems. First, the expansion, contraction, and moisture of the wood can cause the ruler to bind or become excessively loose. On the other hand, the wood wears quickly against the metal, especially in contact with the edges of the rule. And finally, using a soft wood will make the previous points even more critical.
    This problem has already been demonstrated in some videos. The best thing is that the rule slides on a totally metallic piece.
    I would also recommend that the tool be disassembled so that the inner foil can be replaced if it breaks, which I think should also be metal.
