THERE IS NO ONE ANYWHERE CLOSE TO AS KILLING IT AS YOU GUYS ATM. at this point I’ve just become kayfabe’s flava flav as I can’t stop hyping the channel up to anyone and everyone. Long live cartoonist kayfabe!!
This work feels so inspired. I love looking at old liefeld stuff.
This is one of the New Mutants issues I still have it somewhere. Good memories.
Even back then i couldn't understand why people liked this art but it did bring in some of my college friends to start buying comics. I tried showing them Byrne, Smith, JRjr, and others, but somehow Liefeld is what drew them in.
cuz it was BAD ASS! when you were a kid at the time right before this marvel was sterile af. it wasnt just comics, pop culture in the early 90s was just bombastically edgy, ECW was the hot wrestling shit, death metal was the hot new metal music, gangsta rap, jerry springer, etc. as a child full of angst and hormones, this stuff was just where it was at. i love all those guys you mentioned (except jrjr) but thats stuff a you had to learn to appreciate. you said college so youre probably a bit older and had already started maturing out of your angsty teenage phase, but as a 8th grader...this was it. All those image guys are a cultural thing. you gotta be the right people hitting the right demo with the right product at the right time. If youre rob liefeld for instance you serve up something cvompletely and people are like holy shit we didnt know we needed this but we are ALL FKN IN and thats why people are still talking about it almost 40 years later
Hopefully you guys can dissect some more new mutants in the future
Yes. Cuz New Mutants is just the best ever.
My first comic Bishop #1 Comic - June 1, 1995 it’s a good one
What are your thoughts on the Claremont + Davis Excalibur run?
Sayonara Ed😥
My first New Mutants issue was #21. I bought it off a 7-11 spinner rack, still have it too!
Has anyone told Liefeld that humans only have 32 teeth. Sometimes he has 48+
16:22 I spilled my soda all over the table.
As ordered I have got my LCS to get me HULK GRAND DESIGN!
This was the last time I like Liefeld's artwork. Weezy doesn't get enough credit for how good this run was.
SPHINCTER PANTS
Longshot and Dazzler were my favorite back in the day. Silvestri X-Men all day.
Cable has 30 visible teeth in the bottom panel. 25:46
Did they ever do anything proactive? I seem to remember shit always happening to them but never them taking the initiative...
Just read red room #1. It’s so good made me feel like throwing out all my pencils and pens and quit creating. It’s really impressive. We’ll done
22:19 in the panel where Shatterstar is pulling the sword out, it's coming out of the guys ass, it looks like he stabbed him in the crotch
No comment on that fire "Doc" Gooden baseball card though?
X-force was the first series where I started at #1 and kept going. This coverage of New mutants is just fantastic.
There is 3 versions of this issue 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
24:15 I thought it was a leg until Ed said it was a back
11:18 except it's the wrong hand Jim
I remember Erik Larsen telling me that at early Image meetings, Rob would pass pages around and some of them would ink them for him. Not sure when this would have been exactly, but it might account for some of the differences in line weight and such.
Love the videos always great assessment and breakdowns of books.
Great memories!
Leifeld's Mojo was godawful.
Oh man - you guys HAVE to check out the 30th anniversary of X-force #1 podcast that Rob put out a few months ago. He talks about a ton of shenanigans he had to pull off to get this issue and x-force 1 out from Marvel. Loved this time period and his podcast on the behind the scenes was engrossing.
Sorry guys, but when it comes to LIEfeld as an artist I have to give it a hard NO! Hes been caught stealing panel art, never hitting deadlines without help, and ripping off popular characters to make his own. And that's not even the TIP of the burg. His art is nowhere NEAR anatomically correct, he cant draw filler/dialogue frames, he cant get perspective right, and after 30+ years in the business he STILL cant draw human anatomy properly like feet, hands, muscle vasculature, ect. Just look at how he hides the arias he cant draw with pouches and poorly composed costume wrinkles. And NOW a days hes sitting on his computer blocking anyone who has something to say to him good OR bad. Hell, you should have taken a hint when they kicked him out of i.age for his diva attitude, arguments with the REAL talent at image, and blown deadlines that it took him a year and a half to finally put out ONE issue of Youngblood.
You give this manchild WAAAY too much credit who does every real artist a disservice by claiming to be one himself.
Wanna kick your channel up to the next level, stop talking about this hack...
