There's something about the robbery scene, the audio track in particular. The way the tv show plays as a grotesque laugh track to the robbery brilliantly increases the tension. After the cacophony of violence when Robocop busts in, we hear the "I'd buy that for a dollar" line again. This time however it's packed with menace and underlined by the buzzing drone of the score. Look at the expressions on the couple's faces. The woman's is awash with relief and maybe a hint of arousal? The man is paralyzed with fear and betrays a horrifying realization that he could never measure up to this unstoppable force of state/corporate power that just stomped through his life. All at once this scene is hilarious, satirical, thrilling, thought provoking and terrifying. Verhoeven is top boy.
Verhoeven to Robocop is a bit like Spielberg was to the first 3 Star Wars movies. Not saying Verhoeven doesn't have skill but either he has lost some of his magic or it was due to other factors that made Robocop so special. IMO none of Verhoeven's other movies rise up to the same quality as this movie. One of my all time favorites.
The one scene that still makes me laugh after all these years after seeing this movie was during that news report where we see Robocop on the t.v. monitors as he's walking toward a school and the kids are looking at him and slowly walking towards him till he suddenly turns around and the kids stop and that little girl walks upto him man that was pretty funny.
Might ruin it a bit when you realize he's in Robo costume from torso up, but is wearing boxers from waist down. He couldn't get in and out of a car in full costume.
Max William Lauf Yes. Each day he was sweating like crazy. The first costume didn ´t even fit, to tight. Paul Verhoeven was close to going crazy (appointments and a lot more) and they tried to make some shots. No way. The first costume has to been rebuild. The first part was full of different problems. Some small (tiny) shots was full of problems. And they made it anyway. This film is great, till today.
The costume was so unbearable it took 10 hours of shooting the first time he wore it to catch the keys in the police station. Fun fact if you think its hard to imagine him walking around in underwear Google Terminator 2 behind the scenes and youll see Arnold wearing the loudest pair of Hawian shorts when hes supposed to be naked in the bar fight scene.
Max William Lauf You are right. But Peter Weller didn ´t make a great job as Robocop only, he made an awesome job. A great actor and his kind to act Robocop … Wow.
I like how the director tells a little story with the schoolkids using only 3 edits. They're all scared of Robocop at first, then one kid shakes his hand. And by the third clip, they're all swarming around him. :)
This is still among my favorite scenes from sci-fi films (where the robber screams and wonders why his bullets don't even hurt Robocop) and then Robocop just bends the barrel, turning his gun into a paperweight!
I didn't realise until someone wisely pointed out that in order to bend a metal gun barrel down like that, the person holding it must be just as strong to not have it twist out of his hands in the process
These movies were just amazing. They relied on good story telling, good acting and an amazing script. Unlike today where story and script is an afterthought to CGI and how amazing they could make blowing stuff up. They tried to remake all these classics and they were pure failures and completely forgetable. 2.7 million people watch a 8 min clip over a few years of original robocop on youtube, thats pretty crazy.

Verhoeven is a fuckin genius.
Man I miss the good old 80s. The musics and movies were surpreme!
If I could travel back to the past, I'll buy that for a dollar!
I wish I was old enough to see this movie when it was in theaters it's so awesome!
I would watch RoboCop s everyday routine for hours...
Timed Revolver Not in the car only. Also in the Disco-scene, when he walks the steps down. The problem was the oval-made armor (costum) at the waist.
Thank you for ruin my childhood 😒😒
I'll never forget that summer... Loving in Charlotte, shitty TV and my neighbor brought over his VCR so we could watch it....
The brutalist architecture seen throughout the movie really enhances the feel and need for a protagonist who, himself, is also cold and hard as stone.
Gotta love Paul Verhoeven's sense of humor. "Something with really shitty gas mileage" 😂
Dude holding up the store looks like Dan bilzerian if he stopped working out LMFAO
This movie terrified me when I was a kid because of all the violence in the movie. Now when I watch it I call it a masterpiece lol.
The only scenes that scared me was the Murphy death scene and the mutated villian
Robocop is the ONLY cop America needs in these times. Doesn't discriminate and gets the job done RIGHT! 👌🏼
The only good cop that's unfortunately make-believe.
._.
Judge Dredd would be almost better
You know I dont care if this get flamed or not, but this comment is stupid.
@@Bejita666 Judge Dredd is a prick. He sentenced someone to prison for hiding in a robot during a riot.
I miss this moment back then when i was 7 years old,
Now im 35, still the best movie of all time..
Those childhood movie memories stay with us forever!
1:14 the sound effect when he opens the doors 😂 😂
Made my night 😂😂😂✌️❤️💛💚 Thank you
They use it again at the ending
"Stay out of trouble."
I like how the director tells a little story with the schoolkids using only 3 edits. They're all scared of Robocop at first, then one kid shakes his hand. And by the third clip, they're all swarming around him. :)
Hell Yeah
Yeah.
Ok.
that's what my old man keep telling me
I'm STILL waiting for that NUKEM game!!!!!
Robocop is set in 2043, so you've got 24 years to go!
It's too offensive might hurt someone feelings to play that game nowadays.
6:20 the way the cameraman pans down to the ground is golden. XD
The commercial clips in this movie were hilarious.
Especially the sunscreen that can cause skin cancer, hahahahahhahahaha
What a great detail!
I worked on the film and love watching these little clips . memories man
That's awesome! Amazing work, sir. What was your role on the film?
Stu Pollard I was the Production Designer on the film . lots of hard work on this film for sure
the theme music chills me to this day.
i also cried when the Jack Daniel bottle blew up.
33 years and still the best Robocop movie.
"Id buy that for a dollar" the catchphrase of the 80's.
10/10 cant beat this classic
I like how he tells the swat dude on the bullhorn when he ask where in the hell do you think you're going and robo doesnt even answer the question but says " KEEP HIM TALKING" . LOL
It's a good thing Robocop got there before that woman got trimmed lol
At least the men got a trimmed instead lol
@@marcosduran4169 lol
@Nocny Ochroniarz z Choroszczy true...true
News Presenter: "Robocop, who is he? What is he?"
Drax: "I'll do you one better, why is he?!"
😂
Well played, my friend. Well played!
But never, *how* is he. 😔
And Leeza Gibbons is smokin' in this movie...
4:09 He drove thru that police tape like a straight savage.
I laughed so hard on that part! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😆
One of the best movies of all time! Peter Weller's finest performance. Leeza Gibbons was smoking hot back then too!
Philip Thomas She still is, looking good in her 60s.
Peter Weller was meant to portray RoboCop😁
