The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

This was the final song in a lengthy medley that included the individual entertainers in this finale each performing a short song. We saw the New Seekers performing their segment of the medley in a recent post in this channel ("Your Song"). Of course, it's complete insanity to post one-minute medley segments in separate posts on this channel instead of posting the entire medley as one video, but it is what it is.
Yes, I totally agree, but that's a way to make the video funds last longer...
Even with that context, it’s still an awkward segment.
Jack Jones and Loretta Lynn singing on the venue together, who’d a thunk it.
Great video, must be seen to believed….😂!

Was this the last show?
Yes and no. The last new Ed Sullivan Show aired on CBS on March 28, 1971. This was from a "Best Of" special in May of that year that featured favorite Sullivan guests. Sullivan himself didn't appear on this special. Jack Jones was actually the host. In a sense, it was the last new episode within the Sullivan format. Ed Sullivan reruns continued to air until June of 1971, when at the end of the last rerun scheduled, Ed, in a taped outro, announced that would be the last Ed Sullivan Show to air on its regular Sunday night slot. Ed promised to bring the show back in the form of specials, but between his anger at CBS pulling the still popular show off the air, and his own failing health (he would only live three more years) the plan never happened.
