With alot of immigration in the recent years and the downfall of the radio, Quebecois music is less popular. There s a lot of efforts put in by the Québec government to keep it alive tho.

La chanson aurait des origines Bretonnes, ce qui n'est pas surprenant car la Bretagne est une des importantes régions d'origines des premiers Canadiens-Français et c'est probablement d'où viennent nos traditions de chansons à réponses et des paroles comme ''lan digidigidan, digidi lan di lan digidigidan'' (Dans les prisons de Nantes)dont je ne connais pas le terme, mais que Tri Yann semblent aimer.

Cela doit avoir un lien étroit avec la chanson traditionnelle : "La fille au cresson". Dans les deux cas, une jeune fille s'enlise dans une fontaine et trois barons passent. Cette version québécoise est vraiment très entrainante !
En fait il y a plein de chants traditionnels dans lesquels les histoires sont les mêmes, il y a celle ci, l’histoire des canards blanc et noir dans « sur le bout du banc » de la bottine souriante ou encore la femme mariée qui est battue par son mari, donc qui s’en va…

Love this song! But I admit i still don't understand the "petit porte-clé tout rouillé" line. Is it meant to be taken literally or is it some sort of innuendo? Just seems like an odd refrain
Don't start searching for a meaning. It just fits the rhythm well that's all. More than likely this song was passed on orally without writing down lyrics. This line shifted trough time and lost it's meaning. This song has Breton roots.
I think it's very clear, she waits for her man, doesn't want to marry the baron and her key rusts (but gaily), what is there not too understand?😉🤣🤣
It may be a tad bit risqué, for the lack of better words.
The song starts by a woman saying she went to the fountain to catch a fish(normally in Québec you dont do fishing in fountains but in rivers and lakes).
In that sense, the fish is a man, the fountain could be interpreted as the dating market and her little keychain is rusty because she has been searching for a man for a long time.
A Cavalry Baron demands what she would give him if he could pull her out of the bottom of the fountain and she says to pull and see after.
When the pulling was done and she is on the ground, she runs back home to write a song.
My little pledging heart is not for a baron, but for a man of war who has hair on his chin. (probably gone a long time)
