N&W 611: The Shenandoah Express

  • On Friday October 13th, 2023 Norfolk & Wester 4-8-4 611 returned for weekend number two of the Shenandoah Valley Limited excursions through central Virginia. Operating on the Buckingham Branch Railroad trackage of the former C&O Mountain Subdivision, the 611 ran from Goshen, VA to the Staunton Amtrak station pulling two trips a day. This video documents the trips on Friday October 13th featuring the eastbound steam powered runs. As well as the westbound return trips to Goshen powered by two Buckingham Branch Railroad GP-40's. Also making an appearance in the video is Amtraks Chicago to New York City train the Cardinal.
