I hd its older brother, the R-8 with the slush box. Problem was it had the gear selector button array directly above your left knee ( left hand drive) and you'd occasionally knock it into neutral getting in or out of the damned thing. Sold it after it dried to drag me down a hill in DC while I hwas had in/out of the car.
Sir! You need an air-box and air-filter on that engine ASAP! (Note: Air intake is supposed to connect to the top center hole of the radiator panel where it gets fresh and clean & cool air.)
It has a fresh air filter now( same element for many 60s cars). Still haven't hooked the air cleaner to that shroud. Or put the thermostat back... I'm pacing myself!😀

I had the same problem😣.But the seats were very comfortable😅so the car wasn't a total disaster!
