This is so helpful. My mom only stopped her addiction completely when she was in her 90's and suffered short term memory loss! However, years before, her doctor told her she could only get her shot of the registered substance once every 3 months, she managed very well. She knew to the minute when she would get her next dose and that helped her. She focused on other things in the meantime and didn't have to stress or invent the dramas she had to before in order to get her relief. She never lost the shame, sadly. So even though she had a legitimate appointment, She always had to create headaches and stories to allow herself to get her shot. I am sure she was no longer physically addicted, but she loved and needed the state of checking out because she really didn't know how else to feel like what she called "my secret self". What a shame. Literally. Poor lamb. One of those suburban women who were drugged by their doctors because being a housewife in the '50's was supposed to be enough.
This is me with cocaine and alcohol, no matter how long I stay off it keeps calling me and I give in and the cycle starts again, I wish I had never tried cocaine
I made my gym reps today, ate my recovery meal and enjoying my 🍻 afterwards. It's a condiment, a reward. POV? It does feel like a hug, a pat on the back. IMHO

My nephew is such a case in point. His addiction absolutely kills me.

Hi thanks for this interview. Question what about addictions to screens, games, porn? How would you detox in this digital age?
