I loved this review! It’s my favourite! Not only was the review of the Kia a standout but the Canadian digs cracked me up. Being a Canadian myself I can really relate to that eh?
I went to my Kia dealer earlier this year and tried to order one of these. He told me it would take a year! I bought the new Mohave instead. But I really like this new Sportage!
I'm from South Georgia and I understand Andrea perfectly..no accent problem with me. Now on the other hand, if I talked to her, she would probably need an interpreter!! Lol
I have watched several reviews on the Kia hybrid. I actually ordered one and hope it will arrive sometime in January. People keep talking about turning the volume up with the turn nob. I cant tell you the last time I used my turn nob in my truck, which has it on the steering wheel. So in my mind, the center screen will almost always be set to the temp. control.
I’m just getting used to mine as that toggle feature can be very distracting. I have been using the volume and track feature from the steering wheel. Just need to get used to it. I may have it Pre set so it defaults back to whichever I chose. 🤙
Excellent review. I fully agree with Zach that hybrid SUV should be made affordable to the working class. Vehicles has become too expensive. Kia and Hyundai has made it affordable with luxury and high quality. Toyota is left behind as they have not upgraded the RAV4.
Kia and Hyundai aren’t any more affordable than Toyota. They look amazing in the showroom but spend a few months in a Hyundai and it becomes clear they are fairly cheaply made.
I think the biggest deal breaker with the Rav4 right now is the wait time. When I was consulting with my local Toyota dealer, the wait time on a Rav4 Hybrid was expected to be anywhere from 1 in a half to 2 year wait. The Tucson and Sportage, I was looking at a 5-8 month waiting period. Still not great, but it made the decision pretty easy. I went with the Tucson, because yes I want those extra features like the 19" wheels. the bigger infotainment system and the Bose speakers. But yeah this Sportage still seems impressive.
I love you guys! You remind me a lot of my girlfriend and I. We both LOVE cars and could & at times HAVE chated about cars all day long! And a bonus that you are Canadian! We need more Canadian car RUclipsrs! Haha Keep up the great work! :)
Great review folks! Interesting that you compared it to the Venza. I have a 21 Venza Limited and consider the Sportage (Andreas pronunciation) in SX form more upscale, luxurious, having better tech and even better driving than the Venza. Though you trade a little mpg. 41-38 is a trade off worth taking. I’m looking at this same color scheme and model in the US. Cheers
Honestly I would say the Venza looks way better on the exterior and the Sportage looks more elegant in the interior. I still wouldn’t trade my 21 Venza limited for a sportage. I honestly think the sportage exterior looks goofy 🤪
You can also turn up the volume on the steering wheel although not as satisfying. Other thing is that they can use media and maps through the top homepages larger touch icons and keep climate control menu on the bottom row for the most commonly used.
My closest dealer here in Maryland is adding $5,000 to any Sportage Hybrid. Talk about Kia affordability versus dealer greed! Pretty much the same with the Telluride since it first came out with some dealers wanting $7,000 or more over MSRP.

Great review, it hit the nail in the head with what is going on out there between the Japanese and Korean automakers. Been very disappointed with Toyota and Honda for the prices they are commanding. Kia and Hyundai are killing it, just go out and test drive them.
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it. I am with you, I prefer a traditional shifter like in the Sportage gas model. The PHEV will also have a dial shifter.
Was told the PHEV system coming from Mazda (CX-70 - CX-90) will NOT be offered on CX-5 - 50. Totally different platform. That's why I'm looking at this or Tucson. ..Just for PHEV.

@@Motormouth... both are 12 inch i believe. Driver one and centre one. Which one are you talking about? I am talking about sportage hybrid sx in canada.
The korean hybrids are probably safer buys than the gas models. That 1.6 litre turbo has been around for a bit. It's one of the better engines from the stable as far as reliability is concerned. It doesn't have the same rep as the 2 litre and 2.4 litre. Take my word for it, buy any turbo engine, change the oil more often than the manual says(I found 8000kms to be a good number with my old car), and use good full synthetic oil.
Its a turbo engine used for a HYBRID MODEL. Its going to be turning on and off all the time. The wear and tear on it is going to be nuts. There is a reason why CVTs are good in a hybrid setup. It is also a first generation hybrid. Its going to be trouble.
@@SingletonD Explain why a turbo in a Hybrid is so much worse than a non turbo as far as durability. Good turbo engines exist, and any hybrid is going to turn the engine on and off regardless of the engine design. Maybe there's something I'm missing. I do agree that cvts in the Toyota Rav4 Hybrid is the best idea for the Hybrid system. It's very simple mechanically and it does do a great job responding to changes and keeping the engine in it's optimum efficiency range. I think in the Rav 4 hybrid, slightly more powerful electric motors in the front transaxle would add more refinement to acceleration(Easy to live with, but they are odd). The "standard" automatic transmission(like in this Kia) can be very reliable, and I understand why some people prefer the system of the Toyota cvt, it behaves more "normal", and there's no obvious reason why this transmission cant be adapted for hybrids. You'll probably give up a little efficiency, but get a vehicle that accelerates like a gas version. Will there be teething problems? Probably. But I'd guess that this hybrid system will get improvements will become a very popular option with good reason.
@@ghenry85 This is also a GDI turbo engine. It will have horrible carbon buildup is because the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder, rather than injected in the intake manifold directed at the back of the valve stem. Carbon buildup can also be the result of engines not reaching the optimal temp. for the fuel to burn properly. So short trips where the engine has not been on for long makes the problem worse. Since the engine turns on and off al the time I can only guess at how bad it will be.
@@SingletonD Okay point taken. Funny thing is they have gdi with port injection as a non hybrid model. I was baffled why they didn't use that engine in the hybrid.
@@SingletonD Have you ever driven a 2020s CRV? if you come to a red light and put on the brakes a little firmly, the engine shuts off.. then it turns on, every damn red light. Those don't seem to die.
Always enjoy your reviews. I was considering a Kia Sportage but no matter what color I chose, they only allowed a black interior. I have noticed this on both Hyundai and Kia dealers in northern Iowa. It seems that like Henry Ford, "your can have it in any color, as long as it's black". That is a deal breaker for me.
Kia and Hyundai are really players in this market...and Kia has really styled these up nicely...pricing is at least reasonable and if availability was better..may be able to get a better deal on one.Nicely done..keep up the great reviews..enjoy😊
I am really liking Kia designs the last couple years. I like both the interior and exterior look of this Sportage. BUT, my biggest concern would be with the turbo engine and especially with putting a turbo engine with a hybrid system. After watching the video about turbo engines on the Car Help Corner channel, I would be wary of the long term reliability of the Sportage and the Tucson Hybrids. It would be great if they came with a NA engine and hybrid combination. We are still loving our Venza Limited Hybrid and over the first year, we are now averaging 6.3 L/100km. Thanks for the great video. We always love watching your reviews and seeing the sites around Vancouver. Oh, and like Zach, I'm looking forward to the new Niro Hybrid. Hopefully it will come with a NA engine. A vehicle that would be perfect for my mom.
Consumer Reports really dinged the Sportage on Reliability but gave the Tuscon such a great review. Is there any reason to think this would be significantly less reliable than its Hyundai cousin?
I find it mind boggling that car companies won't give you a spare tire. That fix it flat tire kits for a majority of time won't fix the tire when you get a flat....
The Sportage looks really massive in the flesh so to speak Andrea. Looks great and the current refresh/launch has hit every design value. You've got a great accent too Andrea lol
Love your reviews. And as an American...your accent is just fine!! You don't sound like a South Park episode. :) The Sportage Hybrid is on the short list for my wife's next new car. I really appreciate your review and opinions on all the vehicles you've tested. You've got a new subscriber.
Thanks for the great review. I love the way you guys interact in the videos. I did my deposit for a RAV4 Prime SE in May last year, last month my dealer told me the wait is expected to be 18-24 months. I am now looking for alternatives, and I really like the interior of the Kia PHEV - not that much a fan of the angular LED running lights though. My only concern, this will be a vehicle that I expect to be driving for the next 15 years. I believe Toyota might give me this but how about the reliability of the Kia/Hyundai? Andrea did mention her mother driving the Hyundai Tucson PHEV without any issues for 6 months.
Zach , hats of you brother, I’m a making only 2300$ a month , I need to pay my bills feed my family to after that I can’t afford any new car , what a world ?
The wife and I are waiting for the PHEV in the US, that looks like it's going to be spectacular. On the accent, it's not the over exaggerated caricature we do here in the US, but it is obvious you guys are Canadian lol.
Maybe I’m in partial since I used to travel to Canada several times a year, but your accents aren’t bad at all, especially since I’ve also spent time in the Maritime provinces. I think the abut and EH stuff is actually more Toronto and Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. Edmonton and Calgary I’ve noticed to my American ear there is also a rhythm / cadence to the speaking. It’s hard to notice at first, but my wife and I were in Mount Tremblanc a few years ago and I said to her that guy is from Alberta. I was right. She goes how did I know? I said listen closely. Listen to the speed / cadence. It’s like a poem. Last, since I’m from Long Island, Andrea to me sounds like she could pass as someone living in the Midwest, Minneapolis, or Chicago.
That's funny you say that about the Midwest, many think I am actually originally from the US and Chicago has definitely been brought up. Love that city!
So I have been told by my dealership that my Sportage SXP Hybrid 2023 model will become available later this month...super excited. I saw a video this morning that had a wireless work around for the Android Auto and Car Play....Ottocast U2Pro Wireless 2 in 1 Adapter. I have order that device. Will have to see how well it performs once I get the car.
Thank you for the review. This is a great video and am impressed with Kia Sportage PHEV. Would you be able to comment on the road noise insulation and how is this vehicle in comparison to others. You can really heard a lot of road noise with RAV4 hybrid on freeways
With that center panel for heat/media, you can set the default to so that atmosphere always comes up, and set up your media button on the steering wheel to run media along with the star button to be a on-off media button. As the driver I do all my media from the steering wheel :-) after a while you can use that center panel without looking or even thinking about it in any case
Finally, a review that actually shows the fuel economy experienced and not the one Kia states! Also, I probably wouldn’t have noticed you were from Canada if you didn’t mention it. Possibly, northern Minnesota though.
Thanks for the review! I ordered mine like a month ago but I have been kept looking for other cars just because I was not sure if I was doing the right thing. After this and other reviews I think I won't cancel it. Seems to be a good investment for my first car (Mine will be Sportage SX Prestige Hybrid). The only thing I didn't like is I was not able to order it with red interior and white exterior, no idea why Kia doesn't allow to do that.
That’s interesting, I order a White exterior with Red interior in the SX hybrid and it’s due in a couple of days. I’m in Canada, are you ordering from the USA?
@@jp6930 Yep sir, in The US. And there are other nice colors that are not available either in the Hybrid version in SX-Prestige, that are in the gasoline version of the same. How long did you have to wait till it was told to you "it will be here in a few days"? In my case, I have been told 3/4 months of waiting time.
Hi All, I placed my order for a Limited version on the 2 April, I changed my order for the SX Hybrid version May 6 and was told it would be much later in the fall. The sales rep called on the 19 May to tell me to buy a lotto ticket because our hybrid was shipped and should arrive in 6-8 weeks. We were very lucky and we picked it up on the 26 July. We payed the Canadian MSRP and no mark up. We’re loving our new Sportage and would recommend it to everyone.
As always an informative, fun and non biased review. I am relatively new to yout channel and enjoying all your context BTW "No doubt about it" sounds just fine on Andrea.
It’s not just if someone can find a way to afford a car, it’s also if it’s smart to spend so much on today’s vehicles. Instead, maybe we should invest more and prepare for a day when life pitches us a serious, heart wrenching, curveball.
@@andreaspencer9813 People will still buy it and the RAV4 over the Sportage but as mentioned, the Sportage has more features and I’m 100% sure it’ll cost way more. The Old CR-V (2022) model costs more than the new Sportage so just imagine how much the new one will cost, especially on those top trims where you make you spend more money to get the hybrid! @@limitedreach4446 Pricing has really climbed with Honda, I will be curious to see what the hybrid starts at considering it is only available on the top trim in Canada but two trims in the US.

This is the channel that I would always get info about vehicles and there is a perry decent crowd as well. I would like to get the general opinion in a few words for Tiguan, Sportage and RAV4 .
I think Zach is spot on about hybrid car pricing. I feel like if your not upper middle class they pretty much don’t want our business. Otherwise take the bus I guess or stay with your current car.
There are two great affordable options, this Sportage Hybrid and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, both have excellent starting prices. The Ford Escape Hybrid also has an affordable starting price but it does have reliability issues. When Zack and I review affordable hybrids, we give those manufacturers props for producing them. Kia could have followed Hyundai's path with the Tucson Hybrid coming in over $41,000 CAD as a starting price, but they didn't.
This is the 2nd video of yours that I've watched. The 1st one was the 2024 Tucson Hybrid. I like the exterior better on the Sportage. I'm not fond of the red seats though. Btw, I'm in Texas and I pronounce Sportage the way you do. And, Andrea says "No doubt about it" just fine..
Got the SX Hybrid last month. Drives great, quiet, and really good on the highway. The Interior is mind-blowing. The only issue is the mileage as I haven't seen 6.2 or 6.4 like they are advertising and I haven't been flooring the gas pedal or anything. The lowest I got was 7.3L/100.
I have a US spec SX Prestige Hybrid and I agree with everything you have written. I also haven't seen the advertised milage either. I and I also don't gun the engine.
Good to know, thanks for sharing. My Mom's neighbour ordered one as well and the dealership told him about 8 months which is shorter than the Tucson PHEV up to 2 years.
I initially wanted to get a rav4 hybrid. But their 10 month wait time for hybrid and 24 months for a prime steered me to get this. Just waiting untill next moth until they announce the price for PHEV. So that I could weigh against the federal and provincial rebates to see if that is a better option
There's a wait time for rav4 because alot of people getting them. Due to their reliability . The sportage has good tech inside but we all know it won't be as reliable as rav4

Another fun and informative review. I appreciate it. Thank you both! By the way, you two play off each other so wonderfully. You are a joy to watch!
Thanks so much!

I'm an American. I don't pick up on much of an accent - you'd have to purposely be listening for it.
Thanks for focusing some on affordability. Your reviews seem to be more "normal people perspective" instead of "pro reviewer perspective," and I appreciate that.
Thank you, really glad you like the reviews!
Great review! Just subscribed! I just bought my 2023 Sportage Hybrid Sportage SX Prestige AWD in the matte gray with the red interior! Can’t wait!!
As a loyal viewer from New Jersey (New Joyzee) with parents from New York (New Yawk), I love Andrea‘s accent!! Don’t ever change exactly who you are and keep on talking exactly the way you talk!
Thank you so much!! - Andrea
The dial shifter is the only thing I didn't like as well; I come from Europe so I learned to drive manual. Now I don't know what to do with my hand! Great review, ordered that exact model/colour configuration two months ago, I am glad you guys like it! Now we wait :)
Awesome, congratulations!
How about resting your arm on the center armrest? A lot of manufactures are foregoing the shifter to create more space in that area.
@@drewski1441 That's what you usually do when you drive manual. Arm on armrest, palm on shifter. Now arm is on armrest, palm is just hanging there. I'll get used to it eventually, but just the fact that I am splitting hairs here shows you what an awesome car this is.
Remember.. you just bought a 1st year model run car from KIA - Enjoy being a "Beta-Tester" for the rest of us. Best of luck..
The question is do you pay for luxuries or go with trusted name of Toyota? I like Zack’s take on practicality of these purchases. Always appreciate your reviews 👍
I've got the Tucson Hybrid Limited and it's FANTASTIC. But I'm loving that Kia Sportage interior infotainment setup!
Mohave? Where do you live?

I just love Andrea’s voice. No doubt about that. Don’t care about accent here.
Thank you, we appreciate the kind words!
"No doot aboot it" LOL 🤣 I am Canadian as well 🇨🇦 and we don't speak like this. Maybe, maybe in the Maritimes.

Two things I would to change button transmission to shifter and make the rear window a little bigger. Great video guys! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it. I am with you, I prefer a traditional shifter like in the Sportage gas model. The PHEV will also have a dial shifter.
@@andreaspencer9813 👍🏻👍🏻
First time watching a video from you guys and it was very informative and enjoyable 👌🏽
Awesome, thank you!
I think when the Mazda CX-50 with the RAV4 hybrid setup releases, it’s gonna be the sweet spot in non luxury vehicles.
Only if it ditches that drowning CVT and can quiet the buzzy Rav4 engine abit
Was told the PHEV system coming from Mazda (CX-70 - CX-90) will NOT be offered on CX-5 - 50. Totally different platform. That's why I'm looking at this or Tucson. ..Just for PHEV.
Excellent review! You guys do an outstanding job. I was just waiting for your review aka approval of this hybrid. 😜 Now I know I can order in peace. Thank you a from a loyal NYC fan. ♥️

@@Motormouth... does sportage hybrid has wireless android?
@@jatinmalik9370 on the smaller screen, yes.
Especially when it's 90-100 degrees.
Me too! The black is a deal breaker and I don't even live where it's HOT!! Wish they even had a two-tone interior like the RAV -4.
Kia and Hyundai are really players in this market...and Kia has really styled these up nicely...pricing is at least reasonable and if availability was better..may be able to get a better deal on one.Nicely done..keep up the great reviews..enjoy😊
Fantastic review guys!! Been waiting for this one! Thanks from Toronto
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
My kia sportage hybrid ex prem should be coming in next week! Cant wait!! 😁😁 thank you for the review!
Congratulations, you are going to love it!
I live in Minnesota, you sound loud and clear to me!
Consumer Reports really dinged the Sportage on Reliability but gave the Tuscon such a great review. Is there any reason to think this would be significantly less reliable than its Hyundai cousin?
I don't know why that would be, same platform, same powertrain.

In the US everything above the bass trim gets the nicer touch screens and stuff. We bought one :-) we love it!
As an American, I'm going too look to see if any of the colleges in my area teach Canadian English classes. This way I can enjoy your videos more.😄
Thank you for the review.
No doubt about it!
I'm in the US and was wondering if you can purchase this car for MSRP? Seems like so many dealerships are adding between $4-5,000 on top of MSRP.

It's already a hit for Kia!
KIA Sportage is Real Soul of KIA even KIA before became Hyundai. It is nice to see they adapt Hybrid !!!
We got 6.4L/100 km but mostly city driving
I have a US spec SX Prestige Hybrid and I agree with everything you have written. I also haven't seen the advertised milage either. I and I also don't gun the engine.
Had the ex hybrid for 3 weeks now. First 500 km’s I was getting about 7.2 litres. Got 6.8 on the next 500. At 1200 km’s now and getting 6.2 litres

Good question, these are the official numbers, so we went with them.
I simply love your videos.
Due to their reliability
. The sportage has good tech inside but we all know it won't be as reliable as rav4
Agree with you re the affordability issue for and electrified vehicles. Also, would be nice if you could actually get one in a decent time frame.
