I think it’s fascinating that Kalina uses such casual language. It does something to her speech that’s almost disarming, possibly because that casualness pings as honesty.
one of the best parts of kalina was whenever she accidentally slipped up because shes so cocky and all the bad kids IMMEDIATELY latching onto it and you can see brennan go oh fuck god this season was so good
I love watching Murph's veins almost pop when he's halfway through a conversation with Kalina. You can literally hear the gears turning in his head every time they talk and I love every minute
the sheer casualness of Kalina, whenever she says anything, when she's digging the knife in deeper, is terrifying. Like when she casually talks about how Riz works himself to death to keep from thinking about how his dad is never coming home, the looks on everyone's faces was like bitch the fuck, and she might as well have been talking about the weather
Honestly, Riz got the best scenes of this season. Baron, a true nightmare made real, and Kalina, scheming and ominous. He gifted me with some of my favorite moments of this season, and I'm so glad that they took a more horror tone to this. Fabian, for different reasons, got second place.

me scream crying thinking about how this entire time kalina was only trying to protect her distressed vulnerable master.... like as a familiar cass gave kalina everything: her mind, her powers, love and a purpose. all kalina ever wanted to do was keep her master safe from harm, no matter the cost
i didnt know what you meant but know i saw it, i didnt imagine that, come from a an animatic that made her super spooky really cool, then i see this....the only thing i can say is 😺
One thing that Brennan does really well in his characterizations for bad guys is showing the evil of mundanity. Season 1 of Fantasy High is probably the only season outside of side quests where Brennan doesn't put on his normal speaking voice for a main bad guy. Between the spoiler villain from A Crown of Candy confessing the most evil, vile stuff in a perfectly normal voice, Robert in Unsleeping City just sounding like any regular vaguely mid-western businessman and of course Kalina, probably because she knows the people she infects inside and out, being as casual as can be to anyone she talks to, especially Riz. Very much not the voice I was expecting from such an enigmatic, spooky and dangerous character. Anyways, it's great. Also, she is super charming and I dunno if thats just her or if the trademark Mulligan charm has rubbed off on her.
I don't know if you've watched EXU Calamity on Critical Role when Brennan DM'd, but the talk back they did afterwards both Marisha and Aabria pointed out the way that Brennan tends to drop all the affectations from his voice from villains, especially during their big villain reveal or turn (or just monologuing) and just how scary that makes it. Like even when he's sort of doing a voice, it's still very much just the speaking voice and nothing else, and it makes it so chilling and terrifying. I would argue that it almost humanizes the villain for the audience, because it's so much scarier to hear the evil come from a voice that we could easily be hearing every day
so ahaha...confession time. y'know how the first time Kalina is described physically, it's in the photo w Pok where they're at a cocktail party? So I imagined her in a cocktail dress*. The problem is. Every single time she appears after that. I just. imagined her in the *exact same cocktail dress*. It wasn't conscious - I didn't think every single time she appeared "she's probably still in that cocktail dress", it's just that once I got the image of her in my head, I never updated it. Tbh, I thought it was MORE menacing that she was doing all this horrifying shit in the same cocktail dress, like a ghost who died at a party, or like she doesn't need any concealed weapons or armor bc she's intangible and going to kill you no matter what. So when the official art appeared later on and she was in like full rogue garb I was like WHO TF IS THAT???? *specifically the purple one Tatiana wears in the musical Spies Are Forever. what, it's a good dress!
I would love to know what she was really capable of. We only got to see a little bit of her powers because in the final battle she was nerfed so hard from the very clever use of the livestream + image projection mechanic.
God this is soooo good watching after the newest episode of junior year Riz: why do you work for the nightmare king? Kalina: why? Is that an honest question? He grants me unlimited power. All that I am and all that I’m capable of doing he gave to me. Do you really not understand why a person would do things that benefit them? There’s something so delicious in knowing that kanlina has to obey the nightmare king aka Cassandra but at this point. She kinda likes this better than normal lol. I’m so interested to see how this will turn out in junior year. She was ACTIVELY keeping the nightmare king up, she wanted all this power at the cost of her god hurting. I see you shadow cat~
I wonder if they do a season 3 for junior year, if Kalina will come back in a less crazed state. I mean she's was Cassandra's familiar, at least she was the previous incarnation's familiar, now that Cassandra is a goddess again in full again, maybe she'll be back and not trying to murder everyone

Honestly out of all the horror from is season the idea of someone being around watching you (and having some influence/ insight over you) without knowing was the thing that genuinely made me unsettled.
I absolutely love ally / kristin fucking MEANMUGGING kalina every single time she speaks their rivalry is one of my favorite things in d20 their scenes are so HOT (as in spicey and firey and make me go ooh ahh the girls are fightinggggg not sexy lol) i love how bitchy they can get it was the perfect crossing of sparks god some of the best scenes in d20 ally and brennan are incredible

I don't really know cat breeds, but Brennan said that she specifically didn't look like a big cat like most tabaxi, that she looked like the house cat version of a tabaxi, if that helps

She's so unfathomably casual about everything it's more terrifying than any other character I've ever seen. "I'm gonna head out and kill Lydia" was genuinely chilling. Also, it's really hot and that annoys me.
