Ratchet is 5 levels below ghetto. Like, having a double baby shower with your daughter or son and he/she is 13 and you are 26. Or collecting money/gifts from 4 so called "baby daddies" but neither of them is the actual child's father.

Ryan, missed you and this show. I think one thing that could have been explored is the celebration of Ratchetness. The song by Emmanuel and his brother, was an anthem celebrating that hater within that at some point or another was a reflection, too!
As a white male I'd have to say I wouldn't know what Rachet was without Black friends LOL! But I agree any race can be Rachet.

I am a Interdisciplinary scholar and I write/ teach Cultural Studies so I know something about how to READ a cultural production thank you...I see that you must have had to press this argument with several of us as I was not the only person to point it out. I am very much aware that this how it heavily edited, and ahh there perhaps is the rub! I enjoy the show and am happy that new pieces are being produced.

ratchet comes from the word wretched. "saved a wretch like me, I ones was lost but now I'm found". southern folk pronounce it ratchet but the word is wretched
That's what I thought, I guess even slang change. I'll do an "over analyze" of the term, perhaps, ratchet = pistol/gun = ig'nant in that type scenario. If anything, the hood still have "heater", "llama", "hammer" etc.

The word originated from Louisiana, Lil Boosie has a song called Do The Ratchet, Shreveport, Louisiana is known as Ratchet City. The internet helped spread the word.
I think ratchetness is like something that every one always wants to label some one else but never wants to accept the term for themselves almost like the word hipster . honestly i think no one really knows what it means because as seen in the video every one has a different view point on what that word means to them.
