I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful museum two years ago. And yes, the tiny train was an absolute blast! Great job, Jessica! Thanks so much for sharing…CHEERS!!!🍻
Fun fact: In the USA, Mailing children did occur after the Postal Service introduced package delivery in 1913. Around 1916, mailing babies were banned altogether and in June 1920, General John C. Koons, the First Assistant Postmaster, rejected two applications to mail children, noting that they couldn’t be classified as “harmless live animals". It must have been hard to fit them in the slot. LOL Good video thanks!
Thanks, Jessica, I really enjoyed this. I was a postie until I had my son (couldn't find childcare for 4.30am), and can confirm that Santa has a dedicated address- the Brigadier (I don't think I ever knew his name) was the man In our office who was in the know. He took that secret with him when he retired. I'm not sure what happens now, but 14 years ago our Christmas bonus was a card with 50x 1st class stamps. They were only 36p then, so just over £18 in total- now that would be over £80, so I doubt that tradition continues.
That was absolutely fascinating, Jessica! That tube ride would make my day! Too bad the posties here in Canada are on strike. While I support them, it doesn't look like I'm going to get cards out this year. Happy Christmas.
Wow. The hundreds of JAFF stories I’ve read, and I now know that traveling by post is…traveling by post. Did the bags ride in the carriages? Also, what happened to a letter if the receiver couldn’t afford to pay postage? How much costlier was it to send a letter by express? I think I read someplace that King George V was an avid stamp collector. I wonder what happened to his collection. You know it is a great video, Jessica, if it generates more inquiries. Have a wonderful Christmas/NY!
