      the drums are insanely loud live, the phone's mic slightly clips the bass, therefore it's not as audible in the recording

      They play so loud live that it's a bit hard to hear everything, and phones pick up sound different, my phone does a great job and picks up more details than my ears at that loud volume, can definitely hear the drums.

    I think he should start using triggers. The pressure of his bass drum hits are not consistent and it makes you think something’s wrong with the mic or pa. Triggers would even everything out. Lars still rocks though!

      @@seanhennessey9869basically what you do is record the bass drums sound, then insert a “sensor” if you like. And when the bass drum is hit with a beater it plays the bass drums audio file at a consistent level rather than you hearing the bass drum itself. It’s a bit like miming, only you have to play the instrument to get the sound to trigger

    • @kekkonenprkl
      @kekkonenprkl 19 дней назад +2

      They have had triggers combined with mics for a long time already, but not sure how they are mixed live. This year it looks like his toms aren't even mic'd anymore, like they used to be until last year. Visible mics only for the snare, the symbals and the bass drums, but no visible mics for his toms anymore. So most likely his toms are now fully triggered. Lets see what they are going to experiment with his bass drums once they reach the next tour break.

    • @GO_OMT
      @GO_OMT 19 дней назад

      @@kekkonenprklThanks for the insight. This may be a silly question, but as a non-drummer, what would be the advantage of using them on the toms and not the bass - wouldn't the double-bass parts be more "labor intensive?"

    When i saw them at download last year there was a definite inconsistency with the double kicks.
    Ive noticed this on pretty much every '100% live' metallica clip, like one kick is quieter than the other.
    He uses triggers on the snare, you can tell as the snare sound is the same regardless if he hits it hard or soft.
    I image he has his tech adjust it for lighter songs etc.
    Maybe, as another commenter says , he should use triggers for the kick too, especially as he is actually doing double kick but its getting wasted and lost in the mix

      @@leviathon18 Not so sure. There are 60-year-old metal drummers out there. At any rate.
      But also, after lockdowns Lars has been more consistent to my ears. The quality of his playing hasn't been as sporadic as it used to be. And as for One, in Helsinki (in the vid) Lars nailed it. I could hear it pretty well.

    • @kubakowalski2361
      @kubakowalski2361 26 дней назад +1

      Pretty sure it’s the throne thumper from Pearl. It sends low frequency vibrations from the bass guitar and the bass drums onto the throne. I think the point of it is for Lars to be able to hear/feel the low frequencies that his regular monitors don’t register which in theory is making him play tighter.

    Well, in terms of medium-tempo and "slow" double bass, he had no problems. But as for the fast one, for example, I'm surprised that he didn't remove the double bass from "fight fire with fire" completely. He can't play a double bass like that.Well, almost. Remember St.Unger, Damage Inc., Hardwired, as well as live performances by the metal militia, hit the light, no remorse, Lars removed the double bass completely there.
    If I were him, in such fast songs as Moth to Flame, I would not remove the double bass completely, but would play half or a quarter at least of what he played in the studio.
