Just needs the bass drums mics turned up louder
the drums are insanely loud live, the phone's mic slightly clips the bass, therefore it's not as audible in the recording
Saw them live in Arlington in 2023 and can confirm that the drums are mic'd so well that you can feel everything
Saw them a couple weeks ago and the bass drum kicks were vibrating through the body. Lars played pretty flawlessly considering his general skills
They play so loud live that it's a bit hard to hear everything, and phones pick up sound different, my phone does a great job and picks up more details than my ears at that loud volume, can definitely hear the drums.
Sounds like kill 'em all drums.
These guys are almost 70 years old. PEople expect them to play disposable heros like they did at 18. Come on people just give them credit for even showing up at this point.
Lars turned 60 in December. That’s hardly nearly 70 is it! As a comparison check out the latest videos from Dave Lombardo (59) and Charlie Benante (61) Age has nothing to do with it.
Saw them few nights ago still KILLING IT
Saw that gig. One sounded as it should. Props to Lars
🤘

I think he should start using triggers. The pressure of his bass drum hits are not consistent and it makes you think something’s wrong with the mic or pa. Triggers would even everything out. Lars still rocks though!
Not sure what trigger is
@@seanhennessey9869 Triggered is a far leftist LGBTQLMNOPRSTUV+-?>* person with TDS crying in their rainbow flag.
@@seanhennessey9869basically what you do is record the bass drums sound, then insert a “sensor” if you like. And when the bass drum is hit with a beater it plays the bass drums audio file at a consistent level rather than you hearing the bass drum itself. It’s a bit like miming, only you have to play the instrument to get the sound to trigger
They have had triggers combined with mics for a long time already, but not sure how they are mixed live. This year it looks like his toms aren't even mic'd anymore, like they used to be until last year. Visible mics only for the snare, the symbals and the bass drums, but no visible mics for his toms anymore. So most likely his toms are now fully triggered. Lets see what they are going to experiment with his bass drums once they reach the next tour break.
@@kekkonenprklThanks for the insight. This may be a silly question, but as a non-drummer, what would be the advantage of using them on the toms and not the bass - wouldn't the double-bass parts be more "labor intensive?"
He can of course
If this is Helsinki, I was there - and Lars nailed One.
When i saw them at download last year there was a definite inconsistency with the double kicks.
Ive noticed this on pretty much every '100% live' metallica clip, like one kick is quieter than the other.
He uses triggers on the snare, you can tell as the snare sound is the same regardless if he hits it hard or soft.
I image he has his tech adjust it for lighter songs etc.
Maybe, as another commenter says , he should use triggers for the kick too, especially as he is actually doing double kick but its getting wasted and lost in the mix
anytime seen them live always hear cymbals and snare loudly and double bass is muffled in the background lol
Someone tells me it gets turned down because Lars is Lars. But other than that, there just might be less power to it when he does double-bass. I dunno.
@@Jayteaseepiirturi hes now got an excuse as he is in his 60's lol from 2003 onwards double bass was always hidden and missing in the songs as we know them for whatever reason lazy or not
@@leviathon18 Not so sure. There are 60-year-old metal drummers out there. At any rate.
But also, after lockdowns Lars has been more consistent to my ears. The quality of his playing hasn't been as sporadic as it used to be. And as for One, in Helsinki (in the vid) Lars nailed it. I could hear it pretty well.
*hear, etc.
Try and record the live sound with a phone that records good, you'll hear more details from the phone than your naked ears at the concert because of the loud volume
What's that motor thing under Lars's throne (stool)? (that's what it's called)
Pretty sure it’s the throne thumper from Pearl. It sends low frequency vibrations from the bass guitar and the bass drums onto the throne. I think the point of it is for Lars to be able to hear/feel the low frequencies that his regular monitors don’t register which in theory is making him play tighter.
@@kubakowalski2361Mainly for the bassdrum punch which you do not feel when using in ear systems....
@@porpletrommler8172thanks for clarifying!
yup
still killing it
Thats shy double bass .. turn up the mics :D
I'm here for the "mic problem" comments. Lars have problems with his mics for the last 25 years. Maybe he should try another brand. Always the foot mics not working, the rest works perfectly.
Yep he can
NGL iI was expecting Dyers Eve for some reason but Lars still got it!
I just want to know what that big black box is right beside him!!!
It is a table that has a towel and his drink on it. It's a spot to keep things that might need handy
Dave Lombardo is almost his age and plays just as fast and well everything is in practice and Lars never did it just money and money and stupid people who keep buying what they sell.
On the death magnetic tour ‘ the double bass Was clear and heavy ‘ on this tour not so much
Obviously can
What the heck is that black device hanging off the bottom of his drum stool? Does he have an air conditioned stool?
It’s a camara
It looks like a Buttkicker (that's the brand name) unit. It's basically a type of subwoofer that transmits the bass frequencies directly through vibration instead of airwaves. So instead of hearing the bass you "feel" it on your body.
@@ramonoski Yup, it says Buttkicker.
@@ramonoski Gotcha, thanks.
@@marcosirwuin8856 It's called a thumper, helps him "feel" the bass thump.
Well, in terms of medium-tempo and "slow" double bass, he had no problems. But as for the fast one, for example, I'm surprised that he didn't remove the double bass from "fight fire with fire" completely. He can't play a double bass like that.Well, almost. Remember St.Unger, Damage Inc., Hardwired, as well as live performances by the metal militia, hit the light, no remorse, Lars removed the double bass completely there.
If I were him, in such fast songs as Moth to Flame, I would not remove the double bass completely, but would play half or a quarter at least of what he played in the studio.
Cumple q es lo importante
En varias canciones usa el doble bombo no es algo raro, muchos bateristas se inspiraron en el para tocar así.
🤘🩵
Kinda never could tho rly...
Double b ass pedals ,, you got chicken drum triggers and Bob evens seat 👶👑🎤🙏👶👑🎤🙏
With this crappy audio hard to tell 😂
I wonder if he has back problems
Yay he can move his legs. That's all this video offers.
And you ? can you do it ?
That's not the pattern lol. He's half assing it
Sounds like the drums on kill 'em all... bass drums hardly audible.
The drums are the only thing that’s mic’d up the best everything else in person sounds like crap
Better audio phone clips that you can hear the double bass than these clips and he sounds good. It’s not mic problem when he fucks it up though, he just played this like shit for about 10 years
Hell yeah he can
Lmao 80% of the video has really terrible quality when it comes to whole audio. Not even only drums. You can barely understand anything
he can he just wont
❤❤❤
