This has been so helpful! Am rehabbing from necrotizing faciitis(top of foot).Since i was non-weight bearing & casted for so long,i pushed too hard & achilles started to be a problem. The cross friction massage has improved my symptoms overnight! Thank you!!
I went through this problem and my Physical Therapist was reinjuring me all the time. I had to figure it out myself. Suffered for two years this should be an emergency broadcast to all medical people to avoid getting people hurt.
I have been stretching my achilles tendon for 9 months at least. It has never improved. I would sit and cry at my desk some evenings. I constantly was flexing and stretching my foot. I've switched to exercising my calves and heel raises and the improvement is mind blowing!
I have the opposite experience. A doctor once told me ( after suffering from archilles tendernistis for 6 month after a fall) first heat it up ( in the shower or microwave wet towel), then stretch and then ice. After 1 week I was sooooo much better and for the last 5 years that is what I am doing as soon as I feel not quite right. We have a lot of mole holes in the yard and I am twisting my ankle at least 4 times a year. I also use magnesium oil or lotion on my calves EVERY night.
From my experience, heat on my injury after swelling went down decreased my pain significantly. I do occasional foot soaks with espom salt and coconut oil and it works for me.
@ heat increases blood flow. Blood flow increases waste, which goes in the lymphatic system to get checked, which means you will have more inflammation if you increase the blood flow.
I really appreciate this advice! You made me realize my injury is mild and I didn’t waste a trip to the doctor. I need at least a daily walk for stress management, and I dropped 70lbs as a result, so I thought I was some athlete again @50! 😂
My right one is pretty bad so when they did the scan it shows that the sheath muscle around the Achilles is destroyed that's because I have seven autoimmune diseases and a small pretty bad. Pain is so bad. Worse tendon pain I ever had

What about when the achilles pain is several inches higher?? In physical therapy and boot for 1.5 years. They were idiots and forced me to stretch, use heat, jump up & down. I only healed myself eventually after I stopped listening to them.
I wear tight shoes then next day i feel pain whenever i wear shoes i only feel it when i wear shoes i am student and my exam is about to come its stress me alot

No heat no prolonged stretches for ANY INJURY!! I preach this as a therapist all day long
But I stretch my calf due to a ankle and 5th Metatarsal FX it seems to help pretty well

Can you elaborate? Most people recommend heat after the injury is a few days old, I’m just curious about the logic
