My parents are also mom and pop landlords in CA in another city seeing mass fleeing. So, I see the struggle from both sides. Hopefully we can ride out this pandemic. I’m unemployed by the way, so I’m stressed about paying rent every single day. My parents help out but I don’t want to mess with their retirement savings since they still need that to live on. People are starting to realize that NYC is overpriced, crowded and exhausting. No one in their right mind is paying that much money to be on top of each other. It has been a long time coming that people are waking up to the reality that you can get a bagel and coffee anywhere in the country. Another thing is, what is the point of living somewhere where you have to work yourself to death to afford to live there. $1800 a month is cheap by NYC standards, but could be better spent on a mortgage in a less crowded city.
I agree. But...demand/supply, etc. I just cannot believe the square footage of some of these places...doesn't seem the minimum sq. ft. rules are being enforced.

It's not just New York city which is getting worse, it's all the cities all around the world. The world is unlivable now. It's been my life long dream to live in NYC, but with what happened lately, I can't even live in my own city. Hope things get better soon. P.S: Love your channel from somewhere on the other side of this planet.
You just pointed out my son's situation. He's upstate about 5 hours away, got hired in September for a Manhattan job that is currently remote with the idea that when things open up and he'd be allowed to work in-person, he was planning to move. It was his dream to live in NYC. Job is pretty well-paying, and if it were in-person, would be a good stepping-stone to his dream position. Being remote - not quite. Now that the in-person option is getting pushed out even more, he's looking elsewhere for work.
I ran away more because of fear of crime and a perhaps slight or not so slight delusional perception that they are cuddling criminals indirectly because courts were closed!I lived in a good area of Brooklyn!
From a design standpoint, they could’ve maximized space by getting rid of the “bedroom” and making it as much as an open floor plan as possible. That kitchen “counter” is a joke, even at that price.
This has to be a horrible time to be a realtor in NYC. I feel for you. Here in Maine houses are flying off the market. I guess you can store all of the frozen prepared meals you want, and even microwave or bake them in your oven. Just don't plan on having to make anything fresh, or even be able to sit down to eat it. Maybe some kind of desk /bunkbed in the bedroom where you can also eat your meals.
"This apartment is designed for someone who probably works in a job that allows them to work remotely. So why would you spend all this money on rent in a city where there's nothing to do...?" Very true. As a former NYer I realize how lucky I was with finding roomy (shared) apartments in my old neighborhoods of Forest Hills, Astoria and even Morningside Heights a few years ago. Now living in the burbs of Chicago that apartment looks tiny though so many apartments in Manhattan are like that unless you're wealthy.
My condo is only a Studio + Den (9’ X 7’). I can fit a Queen Bed, tallboy dresser and Rowenta pedestal fan in it. It helps that the entrance to it is double sliding doors, which I keep open. Every inch counted when I was ordering the bed and headboard though!

It’s crazy how before the pandemic, that apartment would of been snapped up fast. But now, with more people choosing to stay where they are or seriously reevaluating what they need in a place, places like that are standing empty. I believe the city will come back, maybe not to what it was before, but newer and better.
Thanks for your honesty. You are right, if you need 40x rent, you probably can work from home. In a small space with no where to go, what do you do? You move... Like hundreds of thousands have in the last year. This place isn’t that bad! I like the fact it has a washer/dryer and it’s quite modern. How much was it? Regarding restrictions and COVID, when you have certain religious groups in Brooklyn secretly having 7000 person weddings indoors (and maskless) and totally neglecting any sort of societal responsibility, then yeah, things are going to get worse. Surprised we haven’t spiked up, though, compared to some of the Midwestern states. They’re in really bad shape!
I live in a very affordable 69 ft.² SRO in downtown SF... but this shiny one bedroom for this price has got me drooling. Man, I wish I had a really good job. It’s still on my bucket list to live in NYC for a couple years. Wish I knew how to make it happen.
@@henrybuneau577 You are very correct, but unfortunately I do not have a vehicle. It would be way too expensive to keep one downtown. It’s like having a second rent. Preferably, the safest best option would be to work from home, but I can’t afford Internet. LOL.

@@ninja_tony I'm sure.. That is a long way to fall. I should have said on its way to the Dinkins years. Sad but the cycle looks like it must repeat. The entire concept of huge urban areas is being challenged by the new "normals". I'm so glad I got to experience so much of it when I did for a decade..... It truly was the center of the universe...
that's what people said during the crack era...guess what, it was almost 3 decades of hell. but yeah, it bounced back after that.

Hey! Welcome back to my neighborhood Cash!! Beautiful area here! That is a great deal for a one bedroom in NYC! This is perfect for those native New Yorkers who are ready for something of their own if they’ve been renting rooms or staying with their rents and have their finances in place! I hope it goes soon! If I was in the market for a one bedroom again, I’d take it! I love my one bedroom apartment in my awesome neighborhood! Be well! Things will get better!
yep great area here!
if you can' t eat out at restaurants ,go to comedy clubs , and other stuff why live in new york city.

To live in an overpriced closet with a wine fridge. Why else?
Because NYC is the center of the universe and everything will be back to normal very very soon thats why.

Hey thanks for watching
People are starting to realize that NYC is overpriced, crowded and exhausting. No one in their right mind is paying that much money to be on top of each other. It has been a long time coming that people are waking up to the reality that you can get a bagel and coffee anywhere in the country. Another thing is, what is the point of living somewhere where you have to work yourself to death to afford to live there. $1800 a month is cheap by NYC standards, but could be better spent on a mortgage in a less crowded city.
I'd rather get a bagel and coffee on the waterfront than in a corn field....
I agree. But...demand/supply, etc. I just cannot believe the square footage of some of these places...doesn't seem the minimum sq. ft. rules are being enforced.
this guy thinks the perk of being in NY is coffee and bagels...what the hell are you talking about?

It sounds like he’s making the right decision to save money

From a design standpoint, they could’ve maximized space by getting rid of the “bedroom” and making it as much as an open floor plan as possible. That kitchen “counter” is a joke, even at that price.
Winnebago Minnies have a larger kitchen...

A beautifully finished kitchen with dishwasher, wine fridge, full sized fridge and 6 inches of counter space. Priorities!
I love how he thinks everyone has room for an entertainment center. That's what iPads are for in the City!

The sooner we vaccinatie the better. You stay safe over there!
Not many people invest into totalitarian socialist controlled countries , cities. No invested likes losing their money. Your real estate, businesses and industry is going to take a eat down like anywhere else that “locks down” their economy over the sweet and sour sniffles.
Nice apartment for NYC standards for sure. Great video.

Lol. “Something small like a granola bar.” Cracked me up!!
Lol I wanted to think of something utterly boring and small
That was funny
While the bathroom is small it doesn’t doesn’t have the famous green tile. That’s a win-win in my book. Also, it has a window. I live in the suburbs in Pennsylvania and I don’t even have a window in my bathroom. The struggle is real. It’s kind of crazy how people seem to be fleeing NYC. I know in Philadelphia the outdoor dining is pretty much coming to an end just for the weather alone. I don’t know what the bars and restaurants will do now. Keep up the good work.

@@CashJordan As in the nature of things, of course it will. As an X'r I have seen NYC fully reinvent itself a few times. My lesson learned is not to hold on too tightly to the past, it will only break your arm 😜
It’s crazy how before the pandemic, that apartment would of been snapped up fast. But now, with more people choosing to stay where they are or seriously reevaluating what they need in a place, places like that are standing empty. I believe the city will come back, maybe not to what it was before, but newer and better.
Thete is nothing better about a masked world and regular swab tests.
Once they leave they will never return
Thanks for your honesty. You are right, if you need 40x rent, you probably can work from home. In a small space with no where to go, what do you do? You move... Like hundreds of thousands have in the last year. I don't feel bad for LLs who have been in the game for decades, but do feel bad for LLs that might have just purchased in the last 5 years or so, spent the cash to renovate, only to find that elusive renter who may have better options. Quite sad
Your not going to have anything left soon but crime and huge taxes. Couldn’t happen to a nicer place.
Cash , thanks for the update on how NYC is doing and it's looking very grim. I feel so badly for all of the little restaurants and stores that are going to lose their livelihood again. I don't know how a lot of businesses are going to hold on through the winter. On a different note, were you able to renegotiate your lease?
