Want to know the secret to having success and attaining your goals in life, whether those goals are professional goals or even spiritual goals? Stop being negative. We as human beings have negative states of being that must be acknowledged and then destroyed.

    Anger is sometimes justified. Usually this is when we need increased motivation to protect someone else's rights. Justified anger can help us do what we ought to do. There is such a thing as righteous anger, but it has to be based on correct judgments. Because we are often biased, we should be suspicious of whether our anger is justified. Still, sometimes anger is justified.

    It’s so important to be aware of your emotions, first of all. You can’t change what you aren’t aware of. It’s also important to be nonjudgmental of your emotions, I think. That’s where I diverge from DT’s position. If you notice that you are feeling angry and then you immediately label it as “negative”, which just means bad, then you will probably repress it or avoid it. I think it’s better to suspend judgement of your emotions. That way, you can deal with them more skillfully. I think there are situations where anger can be functional and effective. As DT mentioned, when someone is harassing you or a loved one, it is not effective to be completely calm and placid. Anger can help to carry you through that situation. I think of anger as similar to fire: if you skillfully allow it to burn in certain situations, and are able to put it out as needed, it can be useful. But if you are repressing your anger because you label it as bad and undesirable, you won’t develop that skill, and the fire may end up burning your house down. Just my two cents on this vital topic.

    • @walking_on_earth
      @walking_on_earth 3 года назад

      To expand on this a bit, I think it was Thich Nhat Hanh who advised his followers to treat their difficult emotions (I prefer the term difficult to negative) like their own baby. When we notice anger, sadness or pain, we should give it our full attention and ask, what’s wrong? Why are you here? Usually you can figure out what is going on, and if that emotion is functional or dysfunctional, by taking an attentive, open-minded attitude towards it. I strongly feel that no emotion is “bad”, it’s just how we deal with our emotions that can harm others. I especially wouldn’t want someone to watch this video and start judging other people for being upset about things in the world that are difficult or messed up. It’s not healthy to ignore the suffering of others because “I don’t want that negativity in my life”.

I just wanted to add something at 09:51 You said, "you trust nobody because you don't trust you, you think he/she is liar because you are a liar, you think everyone is dishonest because you are dishonest and the other examples... I think there is a different and even stronger reason about people trusting nobody is trauma's (horrible experiences in the past growing inside because of psychological defense mechanism) Unfortunately many people face different kind of trauma's in their past life. They are really hard to fix and causes tough troubles. They affect your whole life like a virus. And if you're in this kind of state; it is really hard to build a relationship, trust somebody, love the world. Simply it is almost impossible to enjoy the life.

    You absolutely nailed this one Derek! Well done video and offering a "cure" at the end added real value for the viewer, brilliant. Negativity is certainly a conscious choice. Negative people attract negative things into their lives which starts a vicious circle. Positive people tend to attract good more often. We are the authors of our own life experiences, and as you said - taking responsibility for your negativity will eliminate it. Thus we have the power change the ending of our life's story at any age, any time!

    I could think of things not going right in my life a certain stomach hernia I have which has made me feel more uncomfortable. I could think of how I have been mistreated by others or I can think of all the cool stuff I have learned this year. Support from loved ones which I greatly appreciate. That is the absolute thing Derek. It is how we project on to others. I can project positive and still feel negative about things going on I have to fight that because of my situation right now. I grew up (not my parents or siblings) around certain people that would down you because of crying or showing emotions. I hindered me more than helped me to pick up on that behavior. I work thru how I feel but lean more in a positive direction. Heck if im really angry ill play Doom for awhile or play one of my instruments. There are many positive ways to channel energy and I have to be ok with how I feel whatever that feeling is so I can be real and positive sorry for all the input but thats what that made me think of.

Not only are your very aware of your position, unless you are delusional, you are also the negativity outlet for most of society. And as you say, negativity is contagious. It is also hard to cure when you're constantly exposed to it. Speaking from my own experience, of course.

    for me at least, one the thing that made me 'idolise' dead people more, or to talk about them in a more respectful manner, if you will, is that well, they're dead, they can't do anything bad anymore. Someone like Steve Jobs can't be the one who blew up the world because well, he's dead. But take someone like Elon Musk, I don't like Elon, mainly because I don't share his vision about cars, but I really respect his talent and dedication. He succeeded in many things, but we don't know if he's planning to do some stupid thing that could maybe start an apocalypse or something.
    I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's easier to get a more subjective view of someone when they have done all they could, as in all of the mistakes and triumphs, but when someone is very much still alive and kicking, they are subjected to mistakes, like the rest of us, so it's harder to idolise someone who could on the very next day, make a horrible mistake
    I do agree that we tend to give people more respect in their death than when they were alive, especially if they have been dead for a long time, but it's because we don't give them enough credits when they were alive. I'm not going to say that they are all good people, far from it, but they believed in something, and have the will and talent to act on it. These people, whether we like it or not, changed the world and sadly, probably the only people who gave them enough credits were probably their rivals

    @DistroTube -
    I set up a new workstation at home and am tinkering with your Xmonad config. I'm really enjoying it over dwm. On a single 32:9 megawide, your config of Xmobar displays twice on the left and right side, so the first time/date is centered. Wasn't expecting it, but actually prefer it. Just wondering if xmobar does this intentionally by recognizing the monitor dimensions. Love your work.

      @DistroTube  3 года назад +1

      If you are using my xmonad config, I have it launch three instances of xmobar, one on each of my three monitors (1920x1080). So you can play with the number of xmobar instances you need, and you can specify their position and coordinates.

    To fight your own negativity, find out the source of it. Much like with a piece of code there can be bugs that will affect any program. As soon as you can find the bug and apply the correct fix all will run better.
    If you are angry find what makes you angry and no it is not others they don't create your bugs, you are the only responsible for that.

    Yes. But negativity should not be fought. Negativity is neither bad nor good. At least as emotion. As a mood it could hurt. Actually the ultimate reason is Evolution. It helped our ancestors in the past. Nowadays this can become problematic of courae

Like, I just don't get it, why not stick to what you're a pro at? And get collaborators if you wanna do politics/psych/philosophy stuff or put in the time to do some reading?

    and being Negative do not improve us, but that is maybe the reason we are one of the most happy countries in the world.
