Burning Man 2022: Inside The Outrageous Mutant Vehicles Of The Future | Forbes Life

- An estimated 80,000 people are set to reunite at Burning Man this month in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. The "temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance" is taking place from August 28 through September 5 and is the first official gathering since the pandemic started.
This year's theme is Waking Dreams, officially described as a chance to explore the transformative power of dreams, both literal and figurative, and celebrate the dreamers who channel this potent energy in eye-opening, often surrealistic, sometimes life-changing ways. According to the organizers of Burning Man, “After a long hazy blur of pandemic insomnia, unanchored in time and adrift between sleeping and waking, it's time to start imagining the future again."
One of the most outrageous and entertaining displays of futuristic thinking is the spectacular arrival of Mutant Vehicles and Art Cars, created and built by some of the world's most talented designers and artists. Since vehicles are banned in Black Rock City, an approved amount of mutant vehicles are allowed on the playa if they are registered with Burning Man's Department of Mutant Vehicles.
Burning Man has stringent regulations for Mutant Vehicles. According to their website, "A Mutant Vehicle is a unique, motorized creation that either shows little or no resemblance to their original form or to any standard street vehicle or is out of context from its normal setting (a pirate ship or space ship on the desert, for example). Mutant Vehicles can be built from scratch or are radically, stunningly, and safely modified from their base vehicle." This year 829 applications were received, an enormous upswing from previous years.

In realty (not something that happens a lot at Burning Man) it is actually the largest gathering of fossil-fueled RVs on the planet.
I respectfully disagree, as a lifelong farmer I believe that either the sand rail gathering in the Utah dunes or the Moab event both draw over 100,000 people in tents with lots and lots of fossil fuel vehicles check your facts buddy. It is a waste, your hyperbole is not appreciated. Oh and if those aren't big enough for you how about any sanctioned Nascar event on any given weekend during the race car season what a poor fact Checker you are. Or do you just want to stir up trouble?

Typical comment from someone who has never been to burning man and will never go there. Deep inside them they are envious of the people who are free enough to go and have the means to get there, they are just using an environmental excuse to completely cancel out the existence of the event. I’ve been to burning man 10 times and yes, it’s a lot of RVs and other petrochemical vehicles, but I’ve also been at Indianapolis 500 Daytona Beach and large festivals around the world that have A lot more RVs than that burning man. This guy has no substantial proof of what he says, pay no attention to him, he’s just a frustrated non-burner
@@HunterMann Your silly, new-age religious Burning Man is a joke and a cult. The connection to pagan Dead King rituals is merely a marketing afterthought for a cheaply produced outdoor festival. BM is an RV entertainment venue that offers participants a safe place for dancing, communal sex and drug use. Nothing more. That's fine with me but don't expect me to want to attend. And don't expect everyone to agree with you. I envy burners like I envy Evangelical Christians.
