As someone who got it a few days ago on switch,my god am I glad I got it because man it really appealed to my love of both classic Sonic and Mega Man X and delivered one of the best gaming experiences I've had in recent times, the game fucking rocks and I do find it sad that even with it being on consoles it doesn't seem to be getting the recognition it very much deserves

It took 8 years to make. God damn was it worth it. I haven't played it but I'm waiting for a console port.
But let me just say, the top three, was ALL INSPIRED BY SONIC. And funnily enough, sonic frontiers actually looks back on the past through a different angle.
But gawd damn, this list hit different.

You have no idea how eager I've become waiting for the release of "Freedom Planet 2" due to how much I loved playing the first game when it was released on the Nintendo Wii U back in 2015, which has become my all-time favorite indie game title that I still love to play, and I'm even able to play it on my Nintendo Switch when it was ported to that console in 2018. However, I became rather unhappy when I learned that the sequel ended becoming only available on PC and Steam when it was finally released, since I prefer playing games on consoles with a controller instead of PC with a keyboard, but I am kinda aware that the console versions will be available later this year, meaning that I'd have to wait just a bit longer before I'm able to play it for myself.

Freedom Planet 2 is certainly an example of what happens if you take your time while Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric is an examples of what happens if you really mismanage and rush your game.
Also from what I've heard the development process of Sonic Frontiers wasn't exactly smooth. (As always) The team didn't really have enough time, budget, and staff to make it great which is why problems are there in the first place.

@@sonicmario64 I basically had the exact same feeling that you had, but with all PC games that are platformers, it almost always comes to console.
Also fun fact: the first game was a Wii U exclusive when it came to consoles for the first time. It's great to be on the Wii U fan club with our mascot Scott the Woz.

In terms of having Ian Flynn as the head writer of Sonic Frontiers, I found it really amazing for how they addressed past events and even little mentions of Sticks the Badger from Sonic Boom and even Tangle the Lemur from the Sonic the Hedgehog comics by IDW. In my opinion.. on Sonic Frontiers. I don't think Eggman will stop clashing with Sonic, infact he might do it more now.
    His motivations simply changed.
He wants to beat Sonic and rule the world since he thinks he can do it better and keep someone like Sage safe. Especially with how many ancient threats are around.
And at the same time, he knows sonic can overcome alot, but he keeps putting up the Anti, not just cause it's Eggman, but as long as Sonic can beat eggman's scheme's. The world is SAFE and Eggman himself don't have to do it himself.
This is what I think their dynamic could be in the future. He still respects Sonic, but in the end.. Eggman just understands that he isn't Sonic's ultimate enemy. He's Sonic's Ultimate Oppenent to push him futher.

One thing I loved about Freedom Planet 2 is that while the story is *mostly* the same as each character, there are story moments where the characters split up and that's *actually reflected in gameplay.* I played as Milla on my first playthrough (momentum cubes yo) and a friend (who was Lilac) wondered what Milla's "promise" was - Milla's the only playable character in the cutscene where she makes that promise, so of course he didn't see it. But little touches like that made the story from good to amazing, and now I have even more incentive to play as the other characters.
It does make me wonder how different Carol's story is in particular though because she splits off *multiple times.*

Good list, about half of my list is here with Spark, Frontiers, Kirby and FP2. Lunistice and Gator Game just barely missed the list for me. As for your comment on Lunistice, to me it feels more specifically like a fusion of Crash and Sonic. Level gimmicks and aesthetics have a general Sonic-like flair while the core platforming and incentive to grab all paper cranes is closer to Crash with a bit more speed.
Also if you haven't tried it already, Tinykin is a fantastic little 3D collect-a-thon with a slight Pikmin-like flair.

    • @BenjaMage

Neat scene transitions for your countdown. Reminds me of Nitro Rad. Pretty eclectic list, and I kind of like that in a gamer like you. Refreshing not to see Elden Ring or God of War, but I'm glad to see Cuphead's DLC, TMNT, and Freedom Planet 2 here.

  • @toonlinkthelegendaryheroof901

The top 3 games were inspired by one series alone, and that said series was on the top three.
When I saw freedom Planet 2 as number 3, I was hit with a force of galactic nova exploding from Kirby superstar, then Sonic Frontiers after that was the equivalent of stars colliding. (Yes, music pun)
Unfortunately, I never played Spark 3, or any of the games in that series, but it's also phenomenal from what I heard.
To sum up the top three, they found their flame, they broke though everything standing in their way, they're finally here at long last, and in 2022, they are undefeatable.

Great minds think alike, it seems, as, in regards to Sonic Frontiers, that's EXACTLY what I did as a kid: ran around in the Adventure Fields in Sonic Adventure, ESPECIALLY Mystic Ruins. All my life I'd wanted to see how a Sonic game could work if we just made one big open-world game. I am SO happy that Frontiers did not disappoint in this regard; Sonic has been killing it in the past year and I am so very thankful for that. Also, yeah, Wyvern's my fave, too; though my fave boss fight theme is still "Undefeatable" (I've memorized the lyrics word-for-word; it has surpassed all other Sonic boss fight themes as my favorite...yes, even more-so than "Open Your Heart", "Live & Learn", and the godly "What I'm Made Of"...judge me. X3): it's just...I cried tears of joy when it started...it's that look Sonic gave, it just screams "Miss me?". Also happy that Frontiers is going to see more content in the coming months, including a new campaign and the ability to play as the other characters. I'm very excited to see what's coming, not gonna lie. Hopefully we can keep this ball rolling with future Sonic games. =^.^=
Funny story about Forgotten Land: this wasn't the first stab HAL Labs took to a 3D Kirby game. There is a famous cut Kirby game simply titled "Kirby GCN" by the community; famous because much of the elements lifted from the game's development cycles were implemented in many Kirby games that came after, including Kirby Star Allies and the aforementioned Forgotten Land as well as Kirby's Blowout Blast and Kirby Battle Royale on top of a fair few Sub-Games like Kirby 3D Rumble in Planet Robobot, but also, more notably, it eventually became Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Definitely recommend looking in to it on the wiki page; it is FASCINATING seeing how much content got lifted from this cancelled project and in to others: Nintendo and HAL Labs clearly wanted this to work, but I'm so glad we finally got a full-fledged 3D adventure for Kirby. Given all this knowledge, it makes sense how Kirby transitioned so beautifully in to 3D.

So I have an idea for a 50th episode. How about another emotional rollercoaster in the form of Waku Waku Puyo Puyo Dungeon? It came out for the Saturn during 1998 and it was released on the PS1 almost a year later. Apparently, it's a very long game (as you have to go through all of Arle, Rulue & Schezo's routes to reach the final boss), but it's remembered by the fans of the Puyo Puyo franchise pretty well, being one of the franchise's only RPG titles and all. However, one of the things people remember it the most for is Doppelganger Schezo. I'm not going to spoil much, but he's a rather tragic antagonist.

I was waiting to see where Spark 3 would be on the list, if at all, and I'm happy to see it was at number 1 because the game really is that good. I was interested in it almost immediately after the review video on it, and even though I'm only a few worlds into the game it's already one of, if not my favorite indie game ever. It's so much fun exploring the levels as much as possible to look for all the Exploration Medals, to the point where some levels keep me for over half an hour. And while I may never quite be good enough to get the Speed Medals, the Score Medals are a lot of fun because when I go out of my way to get them, my multiplier goes up so fast that I don't even realize I'm already over 1,000,000 score sometimes. Even the combat, which I'm usually not fond of in platformers, is super fun, especially when building up the boosted damage meter to take down enemies even faster. Overall it's an incredible game that I may never have discovered had I not seen it here first on this channel.

My top ten games that I played in 2022 are Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode 1, Half Life 2 Episode 2, Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5, Yakuza 6, Yakuza 7 Like a Dragon, Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2 Off the Record, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Zombies, Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Zombies and Dead Island Riptide.
However, the top spot has to go to KF-WestLondon. With such beautiful visuals combined with a great layout combined with the constant hordes of enemies, it is a fantastic map that truly makes you feel like you are in the middle of London.

For me, at least, 2022 was the year I really got into arcade games. Not arcade-y games, mind you, just flat-out arcade games. Not only did I find out there was one close to where I live, and with games I'd want to play no less, but I've also gone out of my way to go to other locations if they happen to have one.
I never thought I'd play the likes of F-Zero AX, Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 & 2, Power Stone, Tetris The Grandmaster 3, or any of the rhythm games that came out this year. But, I did, and I enjoyed doing so. In return, I found that I played a lot less of the games that came out this year. But, hey, I already have a big enough backlog to worry about for the time being.
As for games that came out this year, some of my favorites are Kirby and the Forgotten Land, DanceDance Revolution A3, and while I'm still going through it, I am enjoying what I've done thus far in Pokémon Violet.
As for games this year, I still need to get on Three Houses before I play Fire Emblem Engage. Maybe. Who knows what else I will desire to play this year?

There is a video I personally would love you to do, if not for the 50 episode then later. That is the best Free-to-play games that are still supported by the developers. The only rules for the list are that they have to be free to play and that the developers have to have released an update that releases content that changes the gameplay in the 3 months. I personally wouldn't include TF2, but up to you.

2 I haven't finished with Sonic Frontiers yet, but you're right that the music is dope and Wyvern is an awesome boss fight. The stages are mostly meh, but I enjoy world 3 stages so far. The combat I find repetetive, the overworld is a bit empty, but I like somewhat running around and do different challenges there (also I don't know if this is just me but it took amy hours to off from the loading screen in the first stage). The story seems to be interesting though. I don't think it's a horrible game, it's decent so far.

This countdown made me realize how desperately I wanted to play Freedom Planet 2 (I skipped over that segment for the time being, for obvious reasons).
A couple of hours later, I got a laptop that's compatible with the game, and I'm getting a kick out of it so far. Man, did I miss Avalice...
...and man, was I excited to play as Carol again! No hesitation, I made Carol the star of this game--it's not Lilac's story, this is the Carol Tea Show, featuring everyone's favorite tomboyish kung-fu kitty comedian! The epilogue of Avian Museum really reminded me how much I love her.
Now we need Freedom Planet 3, 4, 5, etc. To many more adventures in Avalice and beyond in the coming years! Perhaps not as long of a wait between the second and third games...
