  • We did a walkabout with a Sony FX30 and the Tamron 18-300mm to get ourselves familiarised with the nitty-gritty, quirks and pros & cons of the combination. Our purpose is to be comfortable replacing all our traditional ENG styled camcorders. For years, since the era of Betacam, S-VHS and Digital Betacam days, we are so used to shoulder mounted cameras with good ENG zoom lens of 14x, 17x or even 20x zoom ranges. Covering wide to tele in the fastest possible reaction time, without need to change lens. Sports, news and fast-paced docu coverage without any issues. With mirrorless camera setups these days, its hard to get an all-in-one range lens setup. This Tamron 18-300mm is the best we've found with close to 17x zoom range for APS-C sensor size. Happy with it so far. Apart from the timelapse shots filmed with the DJI Pocket 2, every shot is filmed with FX30 and Tamron 18-300mm lens. 4K 25P XAVC-S 100mbps. RUclips compression levelled out the butterfly shot that otherwise looked softer than the rest of the footage in post, due to using Clearimage zoom in camera.
