    I'm a remodeler/handyman/carpenter and I have owned Dewalt's 21 degree framer, 18 gauge stapler, 18 gauge brad, and 16 gauge finish nailer for about 2 years. The majority of the work I do is fairly small, building sheds, siding and trim replacement, installing doors and windows, fences, finish carpentry etc. The folks commenting who think the noise is a problem probably haven't tried the nailers in an actual work environment. I don't notice the noise or the weight of the nailers when I'm actually using them, I'm just focused on the task and have not been disappointed with them. The depth adjustments are stiff for while but they break in eventually. I carry all four of them in one bag and that is not fun to move but I really like working with them and they have done everything I have needed to them do. When I was an apprentice I would get to work a half hour early to run hoses and cables and do other prep work. I think cordless really does save time in prep, putting stuff away, and throughout the day not having to move cords and cables. I did not have any dewalt cordless tools and started by buying the stapler for a shed siding job because I found a good deal on Offerup. I liked that one and now had a dewalt so I bought more dewalts. All my other cordless tools are makita. The dewalt nailers are pretty ubiquitous and I have got good deals on all of them. I think they are great but I'm sure other brands are also awesome. I've pretty much made up my mind already that I'm getting the roofing nailer.

      wondering if you got this roofing nailer? I build sheds and I was wondering if this is a possibility to go cordless. What stapler do you use for the shed siding? Currently using a 16 gauge stapler but haven't seen any cordless available in that size.

    • @ancientwestonian
      @ancientwestonian 4 года назад +1

      @@Ryndog I just got the roofer and reroofed my 4 square one car garage with it. I tore off the old shingles and did new underlayment etc. so I was shooting into clean decking, rather than overlaying the shingles over the old. I've actually only roofed by hand before so I can't compare it to other guns. Some things I noticed: I was using 1 1/4" nails into 1/2" plywood through architectural shingles and even with the nailer on the shallowest depth setting it was often overdriving nails. I think that this may have had to do with it be being around freezing causing the shingles to not lay perfectly flat and creating air pockets underneath for the nail to pull through. I also found it difficult to shoot consistently straight and not get cooked nails. This was more than likely caused by my lack of finesse with this unfamiliar tool. After a few hours I was shooting quite a bit better and was getting some muscle memory for straighter shots. It did a good job shooting flashings too. It didn't jam once, but I only have about a day and a half of use on it. It needed the 2 ah battery changed about every square and a half. I just kept the charger with a second battery in the gutter. Overall I think its a great tool. I use the 18 gauge narrow crown stapler for cedar shake/shingle siding. I think for building sheds you could definitely go cordless. Cordless fits my needs, but I can see why production oriented folks might stick with tried and true pneumatic on bigger jobs.

      @ancientwestonian 4 года назад

      @@Ryndog I also used the framer with 8 penny galvies to do T111 siding on a shed. probably would work well for other wood lap siding, I haven't had a chance to try it on hardie yet.

    I've used this nailer on whole roof installs 8 or 9 times, I can't say that I have nearly as many complaints about this gun that he does. It's only jammed on me 3 times. It is a bit slower than pneumatic but if u can be consistent with placing ur shingles u can roll with this gun. It's awesome not having to deal with a hose.

    I bought one 2 days ago and used it today. I bought two additional 6ah 20V battery packs so l could get longer cycle life than the 2ah that came with it. This video said they had to put it at the top setting 5 the highest setting to get it to work properly on nailing shingles. I did not use the 2ah battery pack that came with it l used the 6ah battery pack that l bought separately. I had to dail it down to the least setting 1 to keep it from blowing through the shingles, and l was not nailing into OSB but hard 1x12 decking so l think if you go to a higher ah battery pack it will have more torque. I used it for about 3 hours put on 4 squares 6 nails per shingle on the same battery pack, and it worked great not one jam. I think every roofer should have one of these nailers. Spend the extra money and buy at least one 6ah battery pack two would be nice. There great for 4 bundle valley repairs, 3 bundle chimney flashing redos, 2 bundle pitch break tear outs. I haven't tried it on other things yet. The lowest l had to dail my setting down to was 2, and that was when the battery pack was starting to get weak at the end. I started out with 5 and it was blowing a hole through the top layer of shingles and that was OC Durations which was that thread modified nailing strip remember that was on hard 1x12 not 1/2" OSB. I think you can use it on fibercement board, nailing concrete board on flooring and other things.

    @A Concord Carpenter. Thanks Rob for the thorough and honest review. It's great you put the Roofing Nailer through a good battery of real-world tests. It's also good that you are honest that while it has it's problems, some in the trades may still find its convenience makes up for its shortcomings. Hopefully Dewalt will take your critique and improve their roofing nailer.

And u no what i’m starting to lean that way if I didn’t have so many DeWalt tools I would probably be buying Milwaukee because they are leading the way with innovation and new technology Dewalt if they’re not careful they will be left behind if you gonna bring something new to the market why not make the best product you can possibly make they need to scrap the fly wheel technology and get up with the times Their cordless nail guns is the most disappointing thing for me whole reason I even have a Milwaukee platform is because of the new framing nailer they just came out with was tired of waiting on dewalt to fix their piece of crap they’re never going to change it because they only care about that bottom line not the consumer if they made a better framing nailer I would have bought one years ago they’re missing out

      I do love the speed / rate of fire which I mention at least 3x, lastly I talk about how this nailer is awesome for small jobs and punch list items.

    The recoil isn’t realistic to how you would actually use a gun. You would most likely be bounce nailing which significantly reduces recoil which means more energy is going into the nail to the nails being driven deeper. If the gun flies up in the air that’s wasted energy which means the gun isnt too weak. It didn’t look like you were leaning into it either which is what you would do the fire individual shots

  • @roadstar499

    3 nails a second seems pretty decent... would be okay for a back up nailer,or a home owner... durability and lack of jams would be most important to me... extra weight would not be a deal breaker... I wonder if ridged has one of these in an 18 volt??? i really like my ridged impact,has tons of power.

    I bought a dewalt cordless framing gun and that thing was a huge waste of 400$ for the kit. Two friends bought it too that are contractors and Juuunk. Dewalt seems to just pump out nail guns to say they did it first but the cordless roofer solidifies that notion. I love dewalt ..I have a ton of Other cordless and corded tools by them that I love. But the flywheel , ramp up time, and total Bs they sell on depth of drive settings always being shallow on their guns is Super annoying.

    I've got there framing nailer and have NOT liked it at all. Noisy, jambs far to often, every 3 or 4 nails have to get out hammer to drive it all the way down. Just recently got a Milwaukee one and so far none of the above problems with it. After buying one of dewalt guns I have no intention of buying another one that the same technology. Sure do wish Milwaukee would come out with a coil framing gun though.

    As a roofer, this is not even close to being adequate. Way too heavy, slow, expensive, and short battery life. Maybe someday when battery technology evolves, the weight will go down and the battery life up. At least they are headed in the right direction.
