One of the most underrated songs. The original version with full 80's orchestration didn't do it justice. Once Colin started doing an acoustic version, post-Men At Work, it blossomed. Hauntingly beautiful.
I disagree that one is better than the other - I will listen to either quite happily - most of my memories are of the original version anyway, since I was there at the time. The original was a cut above everything else in the mid-80s soundscape; and the latter day acoustic direction brings out different qualities in the song which just to me accentuates the fact that a great song is a great song. Now for a rockabilly version....
I do not understand how someone can click on "I do not like" if this is wonderful, the interpretation, the composition, plus the incredible sound of the Telefunken microphones, a really wonderful
Colin has played this song literally thousands of times. I’ve heard every acoustic version imaginable, starting with the one from scrubs. when he plays, live at the lab with Telefunken acoustic, it’s the culmination of everything…..including arrangements, and the maturation of his voice. That makes this the best version of overkill, IMHO.
As a former recoding engineer (late '60s - early 70s), I am also impressed with the microphone. It sounds elegantly natural. Telefunken may have a real competitor to Neumann Microphones.
I know its an overused phrase, but Colin truly is one of the most under-rated talents out there. Every version he does of this song is unique and speaks to me in a different way. How the hell does he do it? Amazing.
Lovely - today's kid only want Electronic music - this is lovely - His voice is as sharp as it was in the 80's - Musicians from that era are masters of their work. Love it
This song is too beautiful,,,it hurts me and makes me joyful too,and I still don't really understand how to explain my love for it in mere words,,,it must be a blessing then.
Duuuuuude, I've always loved the melancholy of this song. This acoustic version emphasizes the loneliness of insomnia and the thoughts we have. Beautiful.
First time I heard this I did not know the artist but at the same time I absolutely knew I knew who it was. Looked it up and went, YEP! I knew it. Great band and great lead vocals
Masterful songwriter, master class in acoustic playing. As a kid of he 80's and loving Men at Work as an MTV act, to see the depth of these songs arranged this way, Colin is a force and should be a highly respected songwriter.
It s been enuff to write Just This song, and nothing more (beside, he already have diamonds songs like It s a mistake, Down under, Down by the sea, I can see it in your eyes, etc), well.. Just this song is enuff to deserve Greatest Music Awards ever !! Tremendous soul he have , and voice and guitar artistic craft..Colin.
Colin, eres el mejor!! Crecí con tus canciones, con tu voz, vienen a mi muchos recuerdos de infancia... Disfruto hoy más que nunca tu música! Que seas eterno!!! 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
This is where we built our microphones at the time. We have now expanded and this space has been refitted as the soundstage that you see in our new videos
A criminally underrated singer and songwriter , the guy is pure class.
*I've met Colin Hay 3 times. A little stand-offish... but a very nice (extremely talented) guy never-the-less!*
Why is that?
Song is king. To all the kiddies watching this. SONG SONG SONG. Thats what todays music is severely lacking. Melody and harmony.
"Nullifies" - can think of NO other song that has ever used that word. The man is a genius...
I know right. He's an awesome poet, plus he can sing and play. Dang.
Probably one of the most well written songs all time…

Well said.
Completely agree

Agreed
Love this song! Colin's voice sounding as good or better than 25yrs ago!
it really is!
Really!!!
Yes! I attended a Men At Work concert in Berkeley 37 years ago.... wow.
Better than the original
That signature voice gets better every year. May u live long Colin Hay.
I do not understand how someone can click on "I do not like" if this is wonderful, the interpretation, the composition, plus the incredible sound of the Telefunken microphones, a really wonderful
I like this song, but this one sounds a bit artificial/forced. I miss the driving beat of the original.
analizalo a el pablooo!! 👌🙏
@@anutosho1 it's not surpose to have a driving beat it's not techno musik your .....
If you were to stand next to those people, you would only smell hatred.
I agree.
Holy tits this guy's voice has aged like wine!!! What a performance!!!
Stands the test of time. Speaks for itself. Beautiful.

I just heard some random dude singing this song at the streat, and after all this years, im grateful that he remind me how great this song is.
This is one of those strong compositions where the implied meanings can change just by stripping it down and changing the tempo. Amazing.
As a former recoding engineer (late '60s - early 70s), I am also impressed with the microphone. It sounds elegantly natural. Telefunken may have a real competitor to Neumann Microphones.
I was a bar that never has bands but it was the owners birthday and I just happened to be there. I was floored when they opened with this song.
I know its an overused phrase, but Colin truly is one of the most under-rated talents out there. Every version he does of this song is unique and speaks to me in a different way. How the hell does he do it? Amazing.
One of the true gems of the 1980s; pop song writing don't meet this standard nowadays.
Something about this song is hauntingly beautiful... ❤️
Most likely it's Colin Hay
my insomnia song. I remember when this came out. No clue. Now in my 50's, it has new meaning. Great performance. Thanks TELEFUNKEN.
A 67 ans Colin Hay nous chante dans la même tonalité qu'en 1982. Sa voix n'a quasi pas baissé après presque 40 ans. Chapeau !!!
Colin Hay IS INSANELY TALENTED!!! A true treasure!!
Colin Hay, is absolutely brilliant, great voice, song writer, and of course a great musician. Thanks for your music Colin. 🙏🏻
And a great storyteller as well, with sense of humor
In the end he added a little more in his vocal. Love it.
His voice hardly changed. Love Men at work😊
Lovely - today's kid only want Electronic music - this is lovely - His voice is as sharp as it was in the 80's - Musicians from that era are masters of their work. Love it

This song is too beautiful,,,it hurts me and makes me joyful too,and I still don't really understand how to explain my love for it in mere words,,,it must be a blessing then.
My compliments to the recording engineers who preserved this terrific performance.
God,never take him out of this world, please!!!
one of the few guys whose voice doesn't change as he gets older.
Prolly a very important song now, moreso than even the 80
s. Beautiful.
Love this song ..... those lyrics, that voice absolute class
GODDAMN masterful
My favorite singer. Period.
Definitely one of my favorite also
Story telling at its best. One of the best at the craft. Thank You for letting us in. Cheers.
This is probably the closest I'll ever get to being in the studio with Colin Hay. Thank you, Telefunken.
Hauntingly beautiful. Love this acoustic version, and his voice is as strongly characteristic as ever. Chills in the best way!!
Duuuuuude, I've always loved the melancholy of this song. This acoustic version emphasizes the loneliness of insomnia and the thoughts we have. Beautiful.
I Will always love that song ! Thanks Colin Hay ! 😀
Vocal acrobatics. Respect.
Wow what an artist. Can't understand the lack of views but sometimes what's popular, well, sucks.
Sums up the early '80s like they were yesterday. I wanna go back. Great solo in this song. ❤️
Grateful I got to see him in concert! :)
Beautiful. I remember when this was first released. Saw you years ago at the fair, as well... Was like it was just yesterday. Bravo.
This song hits so deep it turns me inside out.
I grew up listening to their songs. Brings back memories of the 80’s-90’s! Thanks Colin... you still have it in Spades, mate! God bless.
One of my favorite voices of all time

I've never heard the lyrics before in such an honest way. What an incredible song
First time I heard this I did not know the artist but at the same time I absolutely knew I knew who it was. Looked it up and went, YEP! I knew it. Great band and great lead vocals

It's amazing how he still sounds as good as he used to.

Masterful songwriter, master class in acoustic playing. As a kid of he 80's and loving Men at Work as an MTV act, to see the depth of these songs arranged this way, Colin is a force and should be a highly respected songwriter.
Love this version I feel like M@W were so under appreciated way ahead of there time
Hypnotic and gorgeous. I'm not sure I breathed until it was over...

Quality artist playing in a store room , no respect. Fabulous.
This is where we built our microphones at the time. We have now expanded and this space has been refitted as the soundstage that you see in our new videos
Apologies. Thanks for clearing that up.

This a perfect match of a pretty nice voice with a beatiful melody
Fantastic song and so underrated and not played enough
What a great talent and great song. Thanks for posting this.
My husband's favorite song!! Even better older!
I grew up in the 80s. This song was on heavy rotation on radio and MTV (when they actually played actual music videos).
He’s almost inhuman finding that register all these years later. All praise whatever’s preserving him…
I love the suspended chords in this. Beautiful.
Colin é gênio! Linda apresentação, linda música!
