It's nice to hear about Vinny Jones getting a slapping off Tamer. Great commentary Matt of the silver screen’s true hard men. Tex Cobb for me had 2 iconic roles, the bounty Hunter in Raising Arizona and the opponent in The Champ with Jon Voight. I also remember Tamer Hassan on Soccer A.M. actually getting a higher punch score than Evander Holyfield on the punch machine challenge, as they were both guests on the same show episode 😮
Matt, Am really enjoying this topic! Here's a terrific movie for you to track down. It's The Prizefighter And The Lady with Max Baer. In in, he has a fake fight with Primo Carnera before their actual fight in real life later on. The introduction of famous fighters in this scene is really amazing with Jack Dempsey acting as the ref. You'll see the great Jim Jeffries, Frank Moran, Billy Papke, and Jess Willard! Wow! Also both Baer brothers did a lot of acting, especially Buddy. Cheers!
Great channel, great videos! Are you ever going to do a video on Nosher Powell? He was another English fighter who (quite successfully) broke into the world of cinema via bodyguarding, stunt-work and acting. His autobiography is great, too!
"Larry was playing a very, very advanced game of tag. And I'll tell ya, after 45 minutes, I was "It" - Randall "Tex" Cobb Guys do yourselves a favor and watch Randall's appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson after the Larry Holmes fight. He is as hilarious as he is tough.
I was just thinking, I'm sure Irish boxer Steve Collins did a cameo appearance in a film as a doorman, possibly a guy Ritchie film. Another very tough boxer
Really interesting, your certainly very knowledgeable on the subject Matt, well presented too, thanks for posting. Tex Cobb was one tough MF!!! Nice man too
Chuck Norris, although martial arts turned actor, was supposedly a handful. Roy Shaw blamed liquid ginseng for one of his defeats. Totally different, would have loved to have seen Liam Gallagher giving it the large, and having his front teeth knocked out by a brick shithouse in Amsterdam hotel, around Xmas time one year. The song "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth", springs to mind. That would of been priceless.
On holiday in Magaluf in the summer of 1990 the Leeds United team were on holiday together after being promoted from Div 2. I was there with 5 or 6 pals and we met Lee Chapman, Chris Kamara, Mel Sterland, Gordon Strachan and Vinny Jones on their first night. From that point on we would meet in a pub most afternoon/evenings and have a laugh. I even went clubbing with Vinny, just the two of us. He wasn't as level headed as he seems these days. He was the target of quite a bit of banter/abuse from fans of other clubs who were also on holiday. Tbh he seemed quite a lost soul to me and although he was aggressive, he certainly wasn't a fighter, so I'm not surprised he took a battering v Hassan, who had boxing training. That said, although Vinny wasn't big/muscular, he was naturally strong and had heavy arms/elbows. ps. On a separate note Kamara and Sterland were really good company. Strachan was very different, drinking fresh orange and off to bed @ 9pm.
I went to school with Tamar. Both primary school and secondary school. 6ft 4. Saw some of his school playground fights, he won them. His Mum still lives over the road. Lovely lady

Two of the hardest actors were Jack Palance and Robert Mitchum. Watch Palance do one handed pushups at the Oscars ceremony (I think), when he was 70 years old! Watch any of his films for simmering seething violence which was hardly ever unleashed but he seemed always on the edge. Read anyone who worked with him who weren’t just scared of him, I think it was Jack Nicholson described him as terrifying, even off set. Robert Mitchum was always being challenged due to his size and on screen tough guy demeanour. My Favourite story was his fight with a huge Australian sailor in a bar in Singapore. The sailor had challenged him to a fight but Mitchum was tired after a full day filming and more than a few relaxing drinks. So he offered the sailor one Free punch as long as Mitchum could retaliate with one free punch. The Sailor connected with a beauty to the jaw and knocked Mitchum across the floor but Mitchum didn’t go down. Now it was Mitchums turn. His punch knocked the sailor across the floor, through the doors and down the steps where he was found unconscious. Hard? Giving a giant a first free shot! Wow.
The big Irishman that fought Cleveland Williams it would have been after he was shot with a cops .357 magnum,he was a shadow of his former self,Sonny Liston fought Williams before he was shot, formidable men both of them...
That a great brief breakdown of everyone of those. Learn something new…Lenny standing up to 18 men is believable. Never knew about Jones and Hassan coming to blows in a hotel….probably why they haven’t worked together in any films, which is a shame…they could make a great movie with them both taking lead roles..anyway nicely done.
Lol, Vinnie Jones was never a legitimate hardman. Just a subpar footballer who relied on dangerous sliding tackles to make up for his lack of ability. His fellow professionals saw him as a performative idiot like his Wimbledon teammate John Fashuanu and his karate antics.
I don't think Vinnie was a proper tough fella. Used to act tough on the pitch but when proper hardmen like Steve McMahon were on the pitch, he was a fanny. Saw in that clip him have a go at Roy Keane. Keane was another who used to think he was tough but in reality, it was just on the pitch. Jamie Carragher had him pinned up against the wall in the tunnel by his throat. Keane used to knock around with some hard fellas who would slap anyone giving him any abuse. All mouth.
Tex Cobb took a baseball bat to the back of his head during a street fight. Apparently it didn’t phase him a n he battered 5 guys on his own! Good luck trying to knock him out!
Got to say not that I know him but I’ve never had Vinnie Jones down as a hard man🤷♂️ dead man’s shoes is a crackin film👌👌 RIP to those you mentioned that aren’t here any more🙏
Love how you glorify these guys losses, in the UK you take pride in a hard fought loss. Here in the good ole USA, one loss mean your a bum and any guy with a television could beat you.
Also matt, you could do a separate video for the female professional fighters that have been in movies and tv shows. Gina Carano, Ronda Rousey, Anne Wolfe have been in movies. Laila Ali, Christy Martin, Jane Couch maybe have been in things too but I'm not sure.

Brilliant take on some on some true (as Jimmy Dean -writer of Big Bad John would put it) Big Big men .. great content as always, hope your own situation is sorted or getting there👍🏼
Brilliant mate.
Yes I'm getting there gradually 👍
Thank you 🥊
I'm sure Randall Tex Cobb was in Golden Child as well. Good video by the way Matt. Cheers
Ah really. Yeah he might of been. Top fella 🥊👊
He was
some great uploads on Tex on you tube
well worth a watch 👊👊👊
Yeah he's great 👊🥊
Thanks Matt, big respect to your friends Craig and Gary. Jah Bless, One Love .
Thank you very much 🥊👊
My son worked for the funeral company that dealt with Lenny’s funeral. My daughter in law is the funeral director there. My son said Lenny looked as scary as hell even in death, with the biggest hands he’d ever seen! He was a ferocious looking man!
Ah wow. He was a very tough looking man.
And huge hands definitely.
Thank you for the message 🥊👊
Gary strech was brilliant in dead man's shoes. Great vid Matt really enjoyed it
Thank you very much 👊🥊
Loving this type of content Matt. Fair play
Nice one. Thank you 🥊
Great piece Matt , really interesting all tough blokes . Never knew much George Chuvalo, bad enough to lose any child but lose 3 sons and still try to help people with drug addiction, what a guy.
Thank you. Yes so sad for him.
Terrible, he lost his wife aswell, I just found out in the comments 🥊
From America brother, you do a great great video series. Outstanding work you speak well you’re clear concise and you’re very focused on helping these men become notarized. I knew nothing of this until I ran across your web. Great work.🎉🎉🎉
Thank you very much Mark 🥊👊
Thumbs up awesome 👌 thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you 👍🥊
Met Tamar Saturday, what a gentleman & really nice person, giving to charity, was a pleasure
Ah that's brilliant. 🥊👊👍
Vinnie wasn’t even the hardest footballer, Billy Whitehurst, Big Dunc, Terry Hurlock, Fash the bash, Mick Harford & more would have spanked Vinnie.
I agree 👊🥊
WILLIAM SMITH WAS PRETTY DAM TOUGH IN THE 1960'S-70'S .HE WAS ACTUALLY AN ACTOR NOT A COMBAT SPORT GUY THAT DID ACTING ON THE SIDE .I GUESS ACTOR IS A LOSELY USED TERM FOR THIS VIDEO .
I’d put William Smith against almost all these guys, also had massive military experience
@@owenedwardsguitar7094 plus he was an actual working actor that did that for a living .
Yeah he's already on my list for the next Actors video.
Nice one 👊🥊
Great commentary Matt of the silver screen’s true hard men.
Tex Cobb for me had 2 iconic roles, the bounty Hunter in Raising Arizona and the opponent in The Champ with Jon Voight.
I also remember Tamer Hassan on Soccer A.M. actually getting a higher punch score than Evander Holyfield on the punch machine challenge, as they were both guests on the same show episode 😮
Proof them machines aren't accurate 😂
Nice one thank you, I'm going to have to watch The Champ again, so sad though.
I'll have a look on RUclips for that punch machine, lol 🥊👍
I'll always remember him as Sailor in Uncommon Valor
@darrendavies8252 "Boy, using that Judo S*** is gonna' get REAL Expensive"
Tex Cobb vs. Patrick Swayze
Cheers!
Ah wow! What a lineup of legends
I'll look for that film .
Brilliant, thank you again 👊🥊
You need credit for your research and for delivering slick, concise videos. Love the content! 👍👌
Thank you very much. That means a lot.
🥊👍
Great channel, great videos! Are you ever going to do a video on Nosher Powell? He was another English fighter who (quite successfully) broke into the world of cinema via bodyguarding, stunt-work and acting. His autobiography is great, too!
Yes, a top character was Nosher Powell, would love to hear more about him. He could really handle himself too.
Thank you very much.
Definitely, he's on my list 👊🥊
"Larry was playing a very, very advanced game of tag. And I'll tell ya, after 45 minutes, I was "It" - Randall "Tex" Cobb
Guys do yourselves a favor and watch Randall's appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson after the Larry Holmes fight. He is as hilarious as he is tough.
🤣🤣 He's brilliant 🥊👊
I was just thinking, I'm sure Irish boxer Steve Collins did a cameo appearance in a film as a doorman, possibly a guy Ritchie film. Another very tough boxer
That's right. Lock Stock 👍🥊
Really interesting, your certainly very knowledgeable on the subject Matt, well presented too, thanks for posting. Tex Cobb was one tough MF!!! Nice man too
Thank you very much. He certainly was 🥊👊
Chuck Norris, although martial arts turned actor, was supposedly a handful.
🤣🤣I can't stand Liam Gallagher.
I remember Jamiriquai getting headbutted by the photographer .
Yeah Chuck Norris a Legend 👍🥊
Great video mate 👊
Thank you Brother. 🥊👊
That's very interesting to hear, and gives a different perspective on Vinnie Jones.
Thank you for that 👍🥊
I went to school with Tamar. Both primary school and secondary school. 6ft 4. Saw some of his school playground fights, he won them. His Mum still lives over the road. Lovely lady
Nice one. Thank you for the message 🥊👊
Hiya matt...just a couple suggestions for channel older boxers maybe younger gen not heard off...Jack Johnson he a intresting read and Sam 'The Boston bone crusher' Langford....cheers mate
Nice one mate. Thank you.
I'll add them to the list 🥊
Wow.
👊👍 Brilliant message. Thank you.
I'll add them to a future video.
🥊👍👊
Damn I love you mentioned Tex Cobb, hard as nails that man. The definition of tough, be an actual nightmare to fight in the middle of a field.
Nice one. Yes hes a legendary tough guy 🥊👊
Smashing video Matty. Didnt realise the guy from superman was such a good boxer. Rip to the fighters who have sadly passed.
Great channel mate.
Thank you very much 👍🥊
You didnt mention 'Uncommon Valour' when you talked about Randall. Patrick Swayze and Gene Hackman movie. If you've not seen it i recommend it.
I'll check it out. Thank you 👍🥊
The big Irishman that fought Cleveland Williams it would have been after he was shot with a cops .357 magnum,he was a shadow of his former self,Sonny Liston fought Williams before he was shot, formidable men both of them...
Great information. Thank you 👊🥊
That a great brief breakdown of everyone of those. Learn something new…Lenny standing up to 18 men is believable. Never knew about Jones and Hassan coming to blows in a hotel….probably why they haven’t worked together in any films, which is a shame…they could make a great movie with them both taking lead roles..anyway nicely done.
Im glad you liked it.
Thank you.
Yes Lenny was a force on the streets 👊🥊👍
Your channel is going from strength to strength. Are you going to Dave Courtneys funeral ? Always respect Matt from Glasgow..
Thank you David.
I've been told Dave didn't want a funeral, which suprised me
👊🥊
Well done Matt another great video, dead man’s shoes is a fucking masterpiece
Thank you mate 👊🥊
Brilliant Matt I didn’t know Jones got straightened in a bar fight
Thats Matt. being a big boxing fan and a fan of the 1970's Superman movies i never knew jack o Halloran was a profesional boxer. Good to learn that
Ah nice one. Thank you for watching 👍🥊
Vinny Jones footballer oooh frightening! Watch hard man Vinny Jones on the TV show Gladiators. Girl!
vinny Jones against Tex. Oh dear. I enjoy your docs, they’re top notch mate. How about a mention with tough Oscar Bonavena ?
Lol yeah Vinnie would be asleep very quickly, lol
Yes definitely Oscar was a great boxer
Thank you 👊🥊
Lol, Vinnie Jones was never a legitimate hardman. Just a subpar footballer who relied on dangerous sliding tackles to make up for his lack of ability. His fellow professionals saw him as a performative idiot like his Wimbledon teammate John Fashuanu and his karate antics.
I did pretty much agree with that 👍🥊
⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️👍for the rhythm lol come on lads put anything in there but something nice preferably god bless you all blue black or f in pink ❤from uk
Thank you for that, nice one 👍🥊❤️
I don't think Vinnie was a proper tough fella. Used to act tough on the pitch but when proper hardmen like Steve McMahon were on the pitch, he was a fanny. Saw in that clip him have a go at Roy Keane. Keane was another who used to think he was tough but in reality, it was just on the pitch. Jamie Carragher had him pinned up against the wall in the tunnel by his throat. Keane used to knock around with some hard fellas who would slap anyone giving him any abuse. All mouth.
I totally agree 👍🥊
Tex Cobb took a baseball bat to the back of his head during a street fight. Apparently it didn’t phase him a n he battered 5 guys on his own! Good luck trying to knock him out!
Really! That doesn't surprise me 👊🥊
Got to say not that I know him but I’ve never had Vinnie Jones down as a hard man🤷♂️ dead man’s shoes is a crackin film👌👌 RIP to those you mentioned that aren’t here any more🙏
Hi mate.
No me neither really.
Tamer Hassan can fight, as he was a boxer.
Great film 👍
🥊👊
Love how you glorify these guys losses, in the UK you take pride in a hard fought loss.
Here in the good ole USA, one loss mean your a bum and any guy with a television could beat you.
Yeah Brits love a loser they say, lol 🥊👍
Also matt, you could do a separate video for the female professional fighters that have been in movies and tv shows. Gina Carano, Ronda Rousey, Anne Wolfe have been in movies. Laila Ali, Christy Martin, Jane Couch maybe have been in things too but I'm not sure.
Hi yes thats a great idea.
Nice one.
There was a woman called Lucia Ryker from Holland who was tough aswell.
Nice one 👊🥊
lol just trying to do my bit for real men I wished everyone would do that we would all be sitting at home loving it anyway May god take your Chanel to the heights it deserves brilliant stuff brother and you stay respectful and speak well 👍🎩I tipped my hat sir lol god bless
That means a lot. Thank you brother 👊👍🥊
I remember the first time I saw Tex Cobb it was in Ace Ventura pet detective when I was a kid and I remember my dad telling me who is was and that he was a tough SOB
Nice one. He always really made an impression in the movies, great screen presence 👊🥊
Another informative and fascinating video, Matt. You cover so much interesting footage. Keep up the great work!
Brilliant. Thank you very much. I'm glad it was a popular video.
As it's my first mini doc in a while 🥊👍
are you an English Lord or something??? That place you are filming in is incredible. Hope to see England one day
🤣 It's a lovely estate at Tyringham 🥊👊
Really enjoyed this, every 👍n sub well deserved 💯🥊🏴🥊🥂
Thank you my friend 🥊👍
This was very interesting. Thanks for making this - glad this made it into my feed. Subbed. ✌
Brilliant.. Thank you very much for the sub , and for watching 👍🥊
Dude, absolutely love the treatment you give these fighters. Randall Tex Cobb was the first boxer (next to Ali) that I ever knew about. Loved his toughness and loved his acting (which I think was excellent btw, Raising Arizona he was just incredible). Oh, and I was little but I watched the Larry Holmes/Tex Cobb fight live on TV with my great grandfather and the whole family - great memories!
Thank you for all the respect paid to these guys. I wish more people did it and above that, I wish more people knew and understood the history and who people were/what they did.
Thanks man, you’re the best
Thank you so much. That's a great message.
I'm really grateful for what you said 🥊👊
@@mattlegg1976 Any time my friend..
Thank you again, I’m so happy there are people who respect the people and the history of fighting.
BTW - Started watching your fights and I’m loving it! Anyhow, Have a great day and keep up the great work.
Text cobb was another level.
100% 👊🥊
