I like how in the new version at the beginning, Mickey is realizing he has this power of imagination instead of the original where he starts to use it anyway, there are new vocals also which is an adjustment for me, love the new orchestral cover, scenes and visuals. Just an overall big improvement! 👍👍
Jane Correa was the female vocalist for Fantasmic '92. She unfortunately passed away in 2010, so Heather Headley took over vocal duties for Fantasmic "17. I wish I could hear the two ladies harmonize during the Princess Medley, and this is the closest I can get to that. Thank you
One subtle change I like is that they swapped the villain’s defeat fireworks and the final firework explosion. It’s small, but I think it improves the ending very well

I kind of like the projecting better in the old version, and the other effects in the new one are on point. The vocalist is nicer in the old one. And that's what I think.
Effects are better in the new 2017 version, the story flows better in the new version. I love more the Peter Pan scene more than Pirates of the Caribbean , I like the addition of Aladdin and Tangled. The lead female vocalist in the old version made the show more magical than the new one
If I remember correctly, the dragon before this one was a little bigger and its neck was long enough to breach out and break through the water mist for its arrival, wasn't it?
What I liked about the old one: The Audio is far superior, no scene felt unneeded, and the music never went off tune. With the new audio, it felt slower, which ruined the pacing, and some of the additions ruined the pace as well. I also preferred the final confrontation, which really makes no sense why they removed it and had a better overall finale. I feel they should bring back the old audio, and just add the new scenes when necessary. Also, change the princess scene, it feels overdone and ruins the pacing more. What I proffered from the new: The graphics are far better, there were some additions that worked, and actually added to it, and feel that it added to Fantasmic. Now, one thing that I liked from the new one, but feels it needs a lot of work is the Pirates scene. It needs to be more action packed and fast paced, which would make the scene better overall.
As a percussionist, I do prefer the jungle and elephant section in version one. The instrumental part really completes the idea this show being based off fantasia. The music is better and the electronics in version 2 just kill the overall musical vibe of the “dream”. It also makes the elephants less scary and doesn’t allow kids to feel their emotions as much. If they were to bring back the electric guitars and drum set to the elephant scene, even with the electronics, that would be amazing. The jungle section is good, however, I feel as if it’s more lion king focused rather than the jungle book.
My only complaint about the new pirate scene in 2.0 is that I wish we have a transcript so I know what the characters were saying cuz it can be a little hard to hear over that loud music. I'm such a Fantasmic fan that I'm willing to adapt to both the old and the new without claiming that the old or the new is automatically superior. both sides have their ups and downs. And to me both incarnation still have that show-stopping dream like state that Fantasmic is known for. But now I understand why they call it fantastic 2.0 after 25 years because the soundtrack was virtually unchanged for about 25 years. the one thing that really changed in the first 25 years with the type of barges getting a makeover and of course the animatronic dragon in 2009. After 25 years the soundtrack is still technically made back in the 90s when I need to feature some of the newer stuff as well since some new animated films were made in the 2000s. also even though I'll miss the evil queen turning into the hag I actually do kind of like how the magic mirror tricks Mickey into gazing deeper as he is trapped by the villians. Because in the original fantastic it feels like Mickey Mouse himself disappears from both of the show Even though this is supposed to be his dream. So I love that in the newer version Mickey appears on stage and actually interacts a bit more.
Who else was hoping that even though the movie was a box office failure, the Horned King from the Black Cauldron would be in the new Fantasmic. Also Dr. Facilier, Jafar, and Madim Mim
