People always think ex-racers as going fast in a forward motion without realising that can stop just as quick 😂 Been there and got the bruises! You're doing fab Lucy 🧡
I had an x-racer-small, electrified, like Ember. Sweet temperament, but worried about what was going to happen when I got on. First two years he was inverted whenever I rode, like Ember. Eventually tried doing some ground work. I taught him to lower his head with a cue. His whole body changed after that. Racers just don’t know how to relax or to go in a more rounded frame. When their eyes and head go up, they are like riding a giraffe. It takes a while for them to learn that relaxing is OK. But before he could relax, he had to literally be taught to lower his head by doing groundwork. He just didn’t understand how to do that.
Old California lady here who was riding vicariously with you and your vloggy friends. But am now riding for real. Envied your soft fall because my ground is like concrete. Love watching you and Ember.
I’d give that fall a 9/10, as not too many riders start falling to one side then rolls/bounces off the other side of their horse’s neck & semi-gracefully , sticks a landing on their feet essentially & facing backwards, like towards a cheering crowd!!😂😂 Bravo Lucy!!👏🙌 But seriously, I’m glad you’re ok & that Ember stopped suddenly in Tall grass & he’s ok + not as easily spooked now as he had been when this happened.
Do not worrry Iam subscribed to both channels !!! Interesting about trying not to get Ember to switch off !!! I can relate to that in a stressful situation ! Well So can he🤣🤣😂😂
He's coming along! My horse is the same way. Put him in the show ring and it's like flipping a switch. We're doing the same--just exposure, plenty of outings and showing him it doesn't have to be a scary time.
I love how patient and kind you are with him. I feel like he really wants to please and get it right he just doesn't quite know how to right now. I really hope he'll be worth all your hard work in the long run because you are trying so hard with him! He jumped lovely. Xx
Well I’m glad you had a soft landing Lucy oh the joys of tbs lol.Ember is a sweetheart though your doing great with him and Justine is a great mentor for you plus you two have a good giggle which makes it all fun. Tfs😎🏇😎
Thanks Lucy. Ember looked so much better jumping around the xc fences. It was funny seeing you topple off (sorry) I’m glad your plan seems to be working xx
You are doing a wonderful job w/Ember you are such a good mom to him helping him relax and praising when he's so good - he is a beautiful boy moves so well and seeing great improvement - well done!!
Dont listen to any of these negative nellies that post giving you advice or telling you you are too big (wtf?!! 😂) ... i used to retrain exracers for eventing... its time and its mileage and it can be all quite exhausting - but you will get there!!! ❤
Well done you brave person. I think I would get scared when he flips his ears up your nostrils. You are so tall you must feel like you are kissing is forehead and there is nothing in front of you. How you stay so soft is amazing
Good job and thank you so much for getting back on and not blaming it on anyone. Love how the parttnership is really sparking up and growing please keep at it because would really like to see you one day
Love watching and following your journey together, Lucy and Ember👣💖🐎. It is the journey and not necessarily the goal that is so important. And you are "travelling" with him and leading him so well, Lucy💕. So happy for you, keep on believing in yourself and him. He is in the best hands with you. (This is something totally different but I just wanted to say that you speak and pronounce English so beautifully😍!) Best wishes from Finland 🇫🇮 to 🇬🇧 to 💙💛Footloose Eventing💛💙 to the astonishing and blooming Norfolk!
Truly get excited when you post an Ember video,it helps me with my ottb mare who also sets new goals for me in riding and ideas!!! Fantastic job schooling!!
You must be really tall. Every time I watch you, I'm always telling you to lower your stirrups, get your heals down, and sit up straight. I don't know why you can't hear me across the pond.😂
It must be so hard dealing with a horse who gets so excited that his brain shuts down and this results in napping. I guiltily confess that if he were my horse, I'd be trying a calming powder in his feed (says the woman who uses a calming powder on her excitable behemoth. I'm short and he's more than bit of a lunatic without his calming powder.)
He’s just a complicated little soul, but with understanding and patience I think I’ll find the override button if he does get into this situations, or hopefully he will soon feel that there’s no need to shut down all together! He’s also on a calmer every day, I think it’s just a time and experience thing! Thanks for watching 🙏
Don’t forget your back protector next time !! He just looks really uncomfortable with a contact I would do more flatwork and not worry about jumping until he is soft and going forward off your leg …. I know you’re keen to jump but I would go back to basics … best of luck as he doesn’t look easy x
His flat work is actually very nice, if you watch my last vlog for example, you’ll see that he warms up very nicely in the arena. This outdoor space is very different for him, but once he understands the task in hand he’s fine. At some stage, yes perhaps I will take a contact when warming him up, if he’s ready for it. Flatwork is very different to jumping, he’s done over a year and a half of it 😊 Ps I had my body protector on under my jacket 🧥 Thanks for watching!
Ember is such a pretty boy, and he looked super relaxed at the end! Well done❤ Can I ask why you guys transport tacked up? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before.
I’ve done it on short journeys - less hassle when you get there & saves having to pack the lorry! Would always travel them naked on longer trips though to make sure they’re comfortable x

Hi Lucy; enjoy your videos! Just a bit of a suggestion for Ember - because he’s holding his head so high - he’s avoiding contact with you - a nice running martingale would be a great training aid for him - it would assist you and definitely him in the importance of keeping contact with you and not to “run the fences…” Just a suggestion - enjoy your videos very much ❤
Is it possible that at the end of the day, Ember just isn't suitable for cross country? Is it that he's excited, or is it that he doesn't like it? The planting and napping would suggest that he maybe doesn't enjoy it. What is the reason you think he plants and naps?
Quite possibly, but at this stage we’re still very much near the start of his training, and if he didn’t want to do it altogether, he really wouldn’t. I’m using 0 force, I don’t carry a whip, I’m not yanking on his mouth, he just has a lack of understanding at the moment about what it’s about. He used to do the same with show jumping, now he absolutely loves it! I think a little more time and patience is needed, which I can give him 😊 Thanks for watching 🙏
Try and give with your hands a little bit more like half way up the neck and then he might not stag leap and rush into jumps. No hate just a tip that thought and looked like it might help!!
How big is Ember? I just realized when I stand next to my horse, almost 16.3, I can't see over his back. Now I know I am short and you are probably tall (being a model) but you don't seem exceptionally tall...so the end of your ride when you were standing next to him made me wonder about his size.
I’d also add he needs more manners - patting him when he’s walking off with you and not standing once mounted … he needs to focus more on his rider more I just felt he was just doing what he wanted all the time
What right have you got to tell Lucy what to do with her Horse? He's Lucy's Horse, not yours. How would you like if someone you've never met and didn't know told you what to do with your Horse? Ember belongs to Lucy, NOT YOU!!! Mind your own business!!!!
@@newholladYou have no right whatsoever to tell Lucy what to do with her Horse,m why don't you concentrate on what's going on in your own life, rather than what's going on Lucy and Embers? Lucy might not want your advice, she's got Justine who she can get advice from!!!
It isn't her horse. She's helping ride/train him. I suggest you watch some more of her vids before giving advice. The things everyone are complaining about are things she is ACTIVELY working on.. Ember is an ott tb. He hasn't had the opportunity to learn a lot of these things because of the racing industries he comes from, yet Lucy is actively giving him that chance, even if it's a little late in life.

It’s ok! Everybody has accidents and falls off sometimes I can only jump 2cm and I still fall of!❤
That’s actually a very simple way of tacking up for shows! I may use that at my next one!

I’d give that fall a 9/10, as not too many riders start falling to one side then rolls/bounces off the other side of their horse’s neck & semi-gracefully , sticks a landing on their feet essentially & facing backwards, like towards a cheering crowd!!😂😂

The most important thing is that he looks to be enjoying life, and bit by bit that will help him find a settled place.

He certainly has plenty of pop in him. You may have plopped off but you were so graceful doing it 😂😂xx

Bless his little TB brain. They do get scrambled sometines

The way he is jumping over the first two jumps after you got back on when you fell was so so funny hahahah
Ember is jumping” like a stag” leaving his hind legs behind! He is so beautiful and his canter is so showey xx
Yes we need a little more work on the technique 😂

Jumping out of the start box must be similar to the starting stalls at the race course to him, that anxiety he remembers
Exactly this! We’ll work through it when he realises that XC is way more fun than racing 😂

Have you heard of Tristan Tucker and the TRT method? It really helps my horse chill out and relax. Maybe Ember would like it too.
Oh I’ll have a look!

have you had his saddle fitted recently? Thats what could be causing the napping
