i was actually pretty surprised to see she didn’t get into the top twelve. her italian fouettes were right on the music and she hit every move. turnout and arch flexibility is good too. maybe the choice of variation was too showy?
I don’t remember this variation being in the yagp classical music selection and they mentioned judges may be more familiar towards those who do the variations in the list

maybe she chose a variation with too many tricks and not enough basic technique, maybe the judges weren’t familiar with the choreography, maybe her studio wasn’t famous enough (which is an unlikely reason since someone else from her studio, kako sawai, got into top 12), maybe because her legs in her tour jetes were bent, maybe her saut de chats weren’t high enough, maybe she didn’t land her turns the cleanest. I still believe she absolutely deserved top twelve; these are just a few things that may have knocked her down a little.
She is the most memorable dancer in YAGP2022.

@@sophiawang8905 that might be a reason, but yu kurihara won the 2015 finals with the same variation. i’m not sure if it has changed this year.
