Upgrading Cisco ISR4000 to SD-WAN

I have C1111-8P cisco device with NON-SDWAN IOS 16.12.04 and ROM 16.12 (2r). My question is can we convert this to SD-wan IOS 17.6.02.0.2 Directly ?

What if we have our ISR4k now but the SD WAN controller et all are for later projects, is it best to just load the IOS XE SD-WAN software on the router until we get that additional infrastructure? Will the router work as normal without the controller?

SoulJah876 as I know, when you set os to sdwan image, you will loss iOS xe feature set. Yeah yeah i know, this is suck.
