Accidentally came across your video. Really good info. We (my students) build a lot of trailers in my ag mech shop. Definitely going to use your videos to show them a thing or two, and make our trailers better!
I thought about that, but light loads I pull with may daily driver 1/2 ton, which is burgundy. Pull heavy loads with my 2nd gen Cummins which is white. So it would only match half the time :-)
You going to hinge the fenders so they will fold outward so you can load wider tired rigs? Im going to cut mine loose & do that as well as widen the deck to match the 8ft.6in overall width.
I thought about that, but decided to make them bolt on, so I could remove them. It'll be far and few between that I haul extra wide. That's one reason why I thought long and hard about a deck over vs. drop axle.
3/16". I thought about using 1/4", but because they are "stacked" on top of the stake pockets, I was worried about the "flat hook" style ratchet straps not being able to fit over the combined thickness.
Trailers are so frequently stolen nationwide, I suggest you paint your trailer a VERY unique and distinctive color and weld your name and phone number into the frame of the trailer. Paint it bright yellow with black stripes .. or a very bright purple … then the police can watch out for a purple trailer… easier to spot..

Nice work! Thank you for making the video. As far as the color, make it match what you're pulling it with.

It’s called a “dovetail”
Depends on what part of the country or world. I've seen plenty both terms used about the same amount.
