Brilliant! I have a cupboard door that my grandson pulled and is now out of line. This looks like just the trick. It's fantastic your dad taught you that. Love it. Thanks!
Excellent advice! I have the same problem but with the bottom of the door (slightly rubbing the floor on one end). Gonna try your father's method today and hopefully it will be solved. Maybe I'll have to do this on two hinges (the lowest one and the middle on) but I'll start with the lowest one and see how it evolves. Cheers mate!
you can buy a pack of different thickness wooden hinge shims at most building supply stores and they are cheap and might hold up better on exterior hinges, great video
You may also wish to use longer #9 brass screws so the hinge is really secured well into the framing with the longer screws than the small original ones do. I suppose it does not matter if this card mod is done with the hinge to the frame side or to the door side.
This is actually horrible advice. There are tons of videos on adjusting the swage of a hinge - it is super easy and if expanding the hinge, actually does not involve removing the hinge. Nobody uses cardboard on construction projects. Just one example of caveat emptor of what you see on youtube. If curious, check out Gary Katz video on door installation and adjustment.
What makes this video great and stands out from all other videos is the part when he says my "father taught me that". I love that part.

What nice, shiny hinges!
Great job man good idea
You can also use Plastic type PLAYING cards just cut them to fit.. You can stack as many as needed. The cards never deteriorate.
