- Though the album referenced is more than a few years old seeing the Dodgers in the playoffs reminded me of the history of Chavez Ravine. I wonder if anyone has studied where the erstwhile residents of the poor man's Shangri la migrated to when Dodgers Stadium broke up their happy homes.
'Chavez Ravine' is a stunning record.
Ry Cooder hasn't received half the devotion he deserves for releasing records as tuneful and as hearty as this. The man is an absolute hero.
+czgibson Indeed!
czgibson to me , Ry Cooder is bigger than Bob Dylan.
Well, he’s nicer than Bob Dylan that’s for certain
This Album is a Masterpiece, musically, culturally, and historically! The slightly detuned guitar in Poor Man's Shangri-la, the opening song really caught my attention, the rest is a dream journey into the account of how Dodger Stadium came to be. Amazing piece of work. Ry Cooder is a genius.
It is truly a unique record, really know nothing that sounds quite like it. I have to say I listen to it frequently!
I can't believe that I just a few months ago became aware of Ry Cooder. He is a musical genius. I love his music.
I looked this up because this album, and this location, were referenced in the Harry Bosch novel I'm reading right now: "Echo Park" by Michael Connelly.
An excellent piece of History. You can't just get it from pictures alone. The music helps you feel the times, the smell of the air, the heartbeat, on how people with money force other people to bent to their pleasures of others. No matter what the cost. In this case, breaking peoples lives apart. being scalded to the wind.
love this cd...always play it in my car..my gramma was friends with lalo guerrero and I love los lobos' david hidalgo's contribution to this amazing album of an almost forgotten period of L.A. history....
been following Ry Cooder's music ever since "Into the Purple Valley". It's been a very rewarding follow.
Ditto
One of my fave Ry Cooder albums. Great to learn some of the back story. Thanks for posting.
Ry Cooder must be the musician that more had give to the music contemporary culture. And that mens a lot. Is huge.
Love this record ( very interesting cover art too 👽✌🏼️).... Ry is brilliant !
Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Ry Cooder, Linda Ronstadt are songwriting legends in my book.
I'm from Northern New Mexico, Espanola, Riverside Drive behind the south side Sonic, just as your leaving for Santa Fe, Chavez Ravine speaks to me…"brown & white, red or black, nobody should have to live on their back". Been to the stadium, nice ball park, like the Dodgers but some prices really are too high. Ry Cooder's music is class, very nice low rider in video. Sorry, me to, but it's really not a perfect world, ℗.
Next time you drive the 5, 10, 60 and 710 freeways, remember all the families that were removed from their homes. Refuse to drive those freeways.
Great video
Thanks for this, Eduardo!
Ry should have been invited to the White House for the Medal Of Freedom by now.
Yeah but if it was on trumps time I doubt he would go
+1 to Nightline for telling such a sweet story.
Thanks Eduardo !
fantastic
I must find a copy. Another Santa Monica kid.
UFOs are an element in Ry Cooder's album "Chavez Ravine". I don't understand Spanish. Can someone please explain to me what UFOs have to do with this story?
so cool
Fffff the dodgers
All this pixelating video's is getting on my bloody nerves!
