Rotary was used universally at first. By 1984 Sprint and other companies were beginning to setup tone activated systems. Some rural areas still only had pulse / rotary service available. Digital security codes and multi channel was the high tech features for this model. 1986 Uniden changed to the new model that was scaled down to be cheaper.
