I swear, the way these devs make anything into a tense roguelike... One day I'm going to log onto RUclips and see Tom playing a teeth brushing roguelike.
Mod is used like the division symbol. Let's say you are dividing 5/3. There are two different ways to represent the answer. It's either 1.67 or 1 with a remainder of 2. If you were to figure out "5 mod 3" the answer you get is 2 because mod gives you the remainder of a number after you divide. The other thing to note is that prepend is the opposite of append.
I gotta say I was stunned he didn't know this and other such basic functions and operators. I actually even thought since he got a degree in animation they would teach some basic programming there but that assumption is now definitely dispelled, and then some, lol.
Oh this is SO STRESSFUL! The combination of Maths Fear and then also the fear of softlocking yourself because you didn't correctly predict what resources you needed to buy/save for the upcoming stages!!! Good job Tomathy for making it through though!
12:06 Ok here’s how modulo (%) works, you divide the first number by the second, EXCEPT you don’t take the quotient, you take the leftover bits or remainder, so if you did 10 % 6 you would get 4 since the largest multiple of 6 that is less than 10 is 6 leaving 4 leftover. It’s actually going back to basic elementary division since you’re looking at remainders
Losing my mind about how Tom succeeded in getting 5 with 811/160, but I guess the game automatically rounds to avoid decimals (ironic considering you're playing on a calculator). Adds an extra level of cheesing if you can strategize the rounding in your favor.
I don't know the game but I gotta assume it's cause he picked the most basic difficulty. I'm genuinely surprised that he didn't even know the common operators and terminology that appeared here.
I usually watched Tom to chill, but, as someone who is good at math in my head(to the point that your average joe goes "wow", but not enough to impress someone who does it for a living), I was putting together answers so fast, and then getting *stressed* as Tom piled on the turns XD I love it, but I hate it.
Oh this is SO stressful! Combination of Maths Fear and then also the looming threat of softlocking your run because you used up the resources you needed and did not buy the right stuff to replace it, or COULDN'T buy the right stuff! Good Job Tomathy for making it through though!
I like modulus math. That is fun For those that dont know, the calculator is dividing by the number chosen and the gives the remainder. For intanstance 16 modulus 3 is 1, since 3 times 5 is 15 with a remainder of 1.
I don't consider myself good at math, but I started looking up this game because I found it to look easy and relaxing (very easy at this difficulty level) and I wanted something meditative (I was a bit perplexed at Tom's lack of basic knowledge in this video); then I scroll down and just see people going on about how stressful it is. Feels like I'm tripping.
Daily reminder that Tom is an amazing person and to thank him for all he has done/will do - Day 1682 Oh this was a super fun little time indeed, I do love these "Reach a Number" Roguelike games, and this was a really cool way to do it. Also, I actually really love maths myself XD ha ha Reminds me alot of Countdown with how this game works Good god, that 811/160 was amazing XD big surprise there. And Tom doubted the Near, for shame Agreed, the music was really good, especially in those cool boss battles. I do hope we actually get to see more of this game, perhaps some of the other calculators, still surprised Tom actually made it, with so many close calls too
Normally I instantly want to get any game Tom plays, but this one just seems way too stressful. Just the limited amount of button uses is just pure stress.
This is the most boring idea for a game, but goes in wacky way of balatro and other rule benders, great idea, I hope they wont get even more boring games to improve this way, I feel that was the limit
This is the most stressful roguelike I've ever seen
I was thinking the same thing
So surprised Tom actually won
Actually blown away 😅 I think he's been lying to us all along, and he actually *is* good at math!!
Paid to lead, not to read
I swear, the way these devs make anything into a tense roguelike...

Ferb I know what we're gonna do today

Tom Maths oh noooooo
Just as an explanation for the % operation, it basically leaves you with the remainder. 5%3 = 2, 36%5 = 1, 24%6=0, etc.
Python moment
Tom starring in Ben-Work: The Game. Surely his ability to read won't come to thwart him… Surely….
Oh this is SO STRESSFUL! The combination of Maths Fear and then also the fear of softlocking yourself because you didn't correctly predict what resources you needed to buy/save for the upcoming stages!!! Good job Tomathy for making it through though!
Never has a game aroused such anxiety in me.
Looking for 5, has x->25 and a square root, that is the best time to use the last minus xD

I'd fail this game simply for the number of times I thought the 1 was a 7

Tom passing on the Near button first time had me screaming.
Also you could have just used Near on the final round, you were within 10 already haha

Tom misspelled “calculator” in the title. He does live up to his reputation of not being able to read.
He's not gonna calcunow...
@@WolchBotcalculearly
Att least he can "leed"

Tom really out numbered those guys!
We used to play with our calculators before we had computers and phones to play games on, now we're playing a game about playing with a calculator
The opposite of Append is Prepend.
Dividing 13 by 70 to get to 0 so he can then append a 1 when Tom could have just divided by 13 to get to 1 is just... classic Tom! Math genius!
He didn't have a 1!
I like modulus math. That is fun

tom is only proving that he isn't dumb, making his misplays even more maddening. YOU HANDSOME FOOL!
Just perfect Tom maths
Ah, maths. My eternal bane. Props to Tomask for doing so well! Just the descriptions were causing me to go a bit cross-eyed.
It took way too long for tom to realise the flashing button was different and special.
Good at maths Tom back at it again holy shit. Like it's the beauty of brute force on everything and I love it.
I’ve gotta say I am really impressed! I definitely do not think I could’ve won that game
THIS was amazing... I need more tom math lol
What a crazy maths game! Really enjoyed this for it being so simple. Well played!
Praise Ranald, Tom has survived basic difficulty despite not being Ben!
Tom choosing to do math AND winning at it?
now hold on, this doesnt add up
Oh boy it’s Tom and math, can’t wait to see where this goes.
Daily reminder that Tom is an amazing person and to thank him for all he has done/will do - Day 1682

Yeah, spend 20 minutes straight watching a guy playing with a calculator and I’ll do it again
append something to the end
prepend something to the front
Tom gambling his way to victory in the final round instead of using the flawless method I figured out was such a rollercoaster
Tom is beating the allegations of being bad a maths
The opposite of append is prepend. Mod gives the remainder of division. So 73 % 5 would give 3
It speaks volumes about the game design that Tom, despite all his "no maths good" jokes, both enjoyed and beat the game! I was skeptical at first
The most stressful video ive seen of yours to date
Modular and append options are a tell tale sign of a dev looking at ehat operations he can do easily amd wacking them in 😁
Well done, that looked hard af
I wanna see Tom do some more of this on the not lowest difficulty lmao
Just to see his brain melting and to hear more befuddled beard scratching
the typos are painful
mfw I realise Tom, out of all people, is better at maths than me
TOM & SIMON'S LOVECRAFT ADVENTURE | THE SINKING CITY 2 2025
It's a miracle that you got that far Tom
Normally I instantly want to get any game Tom plays, but this one just seems way too stressful. Just the limited amount of button uses is just pure stress.
No Tom! I will not buy another game you play! I made a promise!
What's a "calculater", and is there a "calcusooner"?
Well done
Mandatory Algorithmic Comment Because We Love Tom ❤️
The boss battles just seemed annoying.
awww no more fucks or buggars! lol
OMG HES A WATERSON haha
Wouldnt +/- 10 have won Tom the end of the game on its own?
Yes. But I think he was blinded by *options*
Congratulations you found the most tedious corner of steam. please turn around and play your way back to the fun section again.
think of it like this: appEND
Ah yes. 5318008. That takes me back.
nice thumbnail numbers hehe
remaing
Wow the upgrade descriptions are trash. They make basic operations sound super confusing
This is the most boring idea for a game, but goes in wacky way of balatro and other rule benders, great idea, I hope they wont get even more boring games to improve this way, I feel that was the limit
Moooooooore! Plz
This game is not for me 😂
2:36 Ummmm What?
Stolen from the Amazing World of Gumball 🤣 I wonder if Richard has played this one 🧐
Oh my god, did Richard Watterson make this??
The title of tha game should be "What if EA invented the calculator".
6:40 wait, so this calculator only considers integers? 🤨
This is just a rip off of calcula-tor
Is this a real black for a gotdamn mathematician?😂
