Hey Jack Just to let you Know The name of this group is The Soul Disciples...This was performed live at Oak Grove Baptist church in Richmond VA.. I am the Drummer and Vocalist. the band consist of from left to right(Brian Cox-Keys/Vocs, RIP Marlon Cox-Guitar/Vocs, Emanuel Harrison-Bass/Vocs, D'Angelo-Guitar/Vocs, Isaiah Sharkey-Guitar/Vocs, Ahrel Lumzy-Drums/Vocs(bottom left)
Gone are the days when an R&B star would put out a Gospel album or at least have a Gospel song on their record...I wish that would make a come back,,,seems unlikely in our dark days BUT all things are possible with GOD!
In his documentary Devils Pie, he has said he plans on forming a gospel quartet later on down the road. He will go wherever God leads him and right now he's where he needs to be.
Hands down my favorite living singer. He brings his gospel influences with him on his secular albums. I don't think he can help it. When I heard the songs Alright", "Higher", The Line", Send it On", One Mo Gin" it was obvious to me this guy grew up on that quartet gospel sound.
You can hear a taste of Gospel in his secular songs that it leaves you wanting more, whether your an athiest or a believer. D'angelo is just blessed with the calling to lead people to God through music. Love him
I think this was recorded about 20 years ago in Virginia. D'Angelo reportedly went around to different churches in the area and got their praise on!! The brother (Martinez Kelley) in the bottom right of this pic told me this story when I visited him back in 2000. He showed me this same picture. Quartet music is D'Angelo's roots. It's so obvious. That's what makes him stand alone in REAL R&B Music. And THIS is why he could do a VERSUZ all by himself. There's been no one like him since Al Green or Sam Cooke. Only P.J. Morton comes close.
Maybe this recording is from that but that picture is not from 20 years ago. Main reason I say that is Isaiah Sharkey is in that picture and they didn't know each other back then.
💐🌹I know that D'Angelo likes soul, jazz, but he should come back to his roots with gospel. I like soul and jazz too, but it's time for us to praise and serve the Lord👑. God⚜✝️bless D'Angelo and his band backing him up🌹💐
D'Angelo Thank you for paying tribute to the legendary Pilgrim Jubilees; who were organized in Houston, Mississippi. and are well known in Chicago, Ill., plus honoring quartet across the country.
My dad Michael Atkins is the bass player for The Pilgrim Jubilees. He passed away December 28, 2022. Thank you D’Angelo for paying tribute to the Jubes!!
Truth, nearly all the pioneers of soul music were singers in the church, and mostly sang in quartet groups, on the gospel highway, talking about Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Wilson Pickett just to name a few. That should tell you something right there.
some how, we all let Jesus down, but the best, is he picks us right back up into his arms of his unfailing love and merciful arms. JESUS SAVES 💜✝️💜 ,AND LOVES UNCONDITIONALLY.
💐🌹I was just thinking sometime last week, that D'Angelo🌹probally song gospel. And I get to hear this . Amen! Hallelujah! Jesus👑gave D'Angelo🌹a beautiful voice. I also like Pastor Rogers & the Fellas🌹✝️
Thank you for that beautiful rendition of the pilgrim jubilees don't let him down how much would it cost you to come to New Orleans the same don't let him down Banks
D'Angelo my brother,,you have sold over a million records,,that band is kicking,,,but how you gonna let that back ground fee like that,,I bet Mr.Cleve,,is praying and shaking his head
Sadly I actually think it was Lucifer who could play all instruments, he was the director of praise and music, hence he had pipes in his body and has a powerful sway on the "worldly" music scene...Micheal is traditionally more of a warrior angel, who subdue Lucifer & the heavenly revolt (1/3 of Angels) Micheal is the one who cast the dragon (Lucifer transformed) and the rest down out of heaven.
Everytime someone mentions the doc, ppl ask where they can find it and the original person who said they seen it never responds where it can be watched at smh 🤦🏾♂️
D’Angelo driving that thang 💯💯💯
i honestly wouldn’t mind if D dropped a complete gospel album
HELL YEAH! Somebody tell him!
I don't even listen to gospel and I'd be all over it. I love this.
I’d be ENTIRELY here for it!
Man look the world or church ain’t ready !!!!! Brilliance would be the only thing anyone could say

That last 2 minutes! Hendrix meets Prince meets Sly. So fire
It’s an interpolation of Fishbone - Properties of propaganda
It’s a nod to Fishbone.
I was thinking more Parliament and Funkadelic, but ur observation is very valid
That, my friends, is the anointing. Its undeniable. It's all over him.

Yessssssss. Perfect

Micheal E. Archer. Just like the arch angel (Micheal) in the bible who could play every instrument.
probably why he decided on D’Angelo to be his stage name (D’Angelo means “Of The Angels” or “From The Angels”)
Micheal is an arch angel ! He is the head of all angels and most powerful angel
Don’t wait to late,Love your style and rendering of this Song 🎵👍🙏
