    From the looks of Reddit, the most intimidating thing for new players is the change of the release model

    Hearing the PoVs from an experience player and a new player is so refreshing. I've been playing Arkham for about a year, and hearing Eric reminds me of how I was so captivated and yet also afraid of the game when I was new to the game. At the same time, hearing the insights from Justin just completely blows my mind, and gets me excited to try out new decks and just play more Arkham.
    Justin's passion for the game never fails to get me excited. It makes me want to drag my family and friends to into playing Arkham campaign with me.
    Also, here's a suggestion for a video topic. Maybe Justin, Bryn and Travis can share their top X reasons why Arkham Horror is most favourite games of all time? I would love to hear why the Arkham gang has been playing and producing content non stop for the past 4(?) years.
    Cheers!

    Hey guys! My friends just got me into Arkham LCG and I've learned a lot thanks to your videos :). Before Arkham I hadn't played any LCG or TCG, so one of the things I found most intimidating at first were the basics of deckbuilding. Thankfully your channel has helped me a lot in that regard. Cheers and GG's, Saludos desde Chile!

    I’m glad that evading was mentioned. It took me sooo long to know when to evade as a fighter. It wasn’t until I played Silas that I got the concept. I kept evading last action and failing, which just wasted an action when I could’ve fought the enemy. That’s different than what Eric mentioned but I’m still glad to hear Eric talk about evading.

    Great video!
    The part about bless/curse tokens was defo interesting bc like, yeah drawing more from the bag is definitely a Prospect but. Outside of multi-pull situations, which are a) rare and b) often player-deliberate actions, in practice you're not *actually* drawing more tokens.
    If you draw a bless/curse token into a, say, -2, you didn't draw 2 tokens, you just Actually drew either a 0 or a -4. They immediately replace themselves so it's functionally just the same odds either way. Bless is literally just pure upside in most interactions, and even curse tokens rarely swing outcomes *that* much if you're just coherently playing to beat test odds in general anyway. And even if you pull into an autofail, like. Yeah, you draw the autofail sometimes, that's just how it is by default. Bless/curse tokens, as a rule, don't stop you from drawing the token you were going to draw anyway.
    For example, I was playing through one of the later Innsmouth scenarios, which fills the chaos bag with a shitton of curse tokens, and at one point I got the comedy draw of like 4 curse tokens into the autofail. Which...was pure upside! Yeah I failed that test, but I burned 4 bag chaffs in one action that I was going to fail anyway. And Eric should defo be familiar by now with the notion that, sometimes failing a test isn't the end of the world, esp if you have ways to mitigate that on Survivor. That's why Promise of Power (4 wilds, add a curse token to the bag pre-draw) is such a universal staple card; sure, you might fail another test later, but you near-guarantee the test you needed to take *now* and that's always been far more important in my experience. Or sometimes you draw the curse during, but then it's still 'just' unexpected courage, which is good!

    Blurse Parallel Wendy has been one of my favorite Arkham experiences, I can't recommend it enough.
    That'll have you hit blurse and evading, so really smash those intimidating aspects of the game!

    Something to add, Not neccesarily scary, but at least for my wife and myself was the value of skills. When I played Silas and she played Minh we were like:"Ohh my God, we overrated assets so, so much!" It's crazy how much sense it makes in retrospect but something you overlook so easy while building a deck

    • @nicmichaud7868
      @nicmichaud7868 Год назад +1

      yeah! ancient evils is still the worst card in the encounter deck because there's almost no other treacheries that can remove your team 9-12 actions! most other treacheries/enemies are often dealt with 1-2 actions. Ancient evils removes 4-6x times more actions! I would say only in true solo does ancient evil starts to be less bad than certain other treacheries.

      But with 4 players, each round you have the potential to get further ahead of the game's tempo than the game is taking away from you! With a good deck, I can potentially get 4-5 tempo worth of actions a turn, which means that Ancient Evils usually brings me to parity at worst and doesn't provide a problem I need to solve. That's why Ancient Evils doesn't scare me anymore.

    • @TheNissassah
      @TheNissassah Год назад

      @@PlayingBoardGames I feel like one of the problems I have encountered when it comes to ancient evils is that many of the scenarios that incorporates it have short agendas that reshuffles the mythos deck when flipped. This can lead to scenarios (especially in 4-man which is what I mostly play) where you draw 3 ancient evils quickly -> agenda flips very early -> mythos deck gets reshuffled -> you draw more ancient evils, which leads to scenarios possibly going much faster than intended.
      Otherwise, in a scenario with a longer agenda/one that doesn't make you reshuffle the mythos deck after advancing it I definitely see your point though!

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  Год назад +2

      @TheNissassah Apart from Essex County Express, I actually feel as though each scenario with Ancient Evils has a doom threshold that takes Ancient Evils into account. So in theory, the first three Ancient Evils should be free. I've often said on the channel that the reshuffle of Ancient Evils is a scenario design problem and not an Ancient Evils problem, which you can actually see the designers seem to acknowledge with Edge of the Earth's Ice and Death Part 1.
      I agree that it feels bad to draw 3 Ancient Evils and then reshuffle and draw more Ancient Evils, but I think in order to learn and get better a the game, we need to ask not why are we losing because of these lost actions, but why aren't we taking better advantage of the actions we do have. Which is where I think the cracks in Ancient Evil's scary exterior start to show.

      We use to call it "Dun-wich" but then we had a ton of people bring up that "Dunnich" would be correct for both its British namesake and also how a majority of people around the area in America would pronounce it, so you've missed the boat to this one.
