    Thanks for the review. Had the Bontrager Flare R City Tail Light fitted by the local Trek cycle store. They fitted the light for free with a new attachment fixed to the rear cargo rack and even gave me a 20% discount for buying both the front and rear lights.

    Thanks for the comment. I even think the running time for the light is longer than promised on the package. I was out for 8 hours on a ride this summer and it was still flashing when I got home. All the best.

    Great review, you made it clearer on how to use it than the actual instructions! I agree with you about the mounts in the box. I use a rack and panniers so a rack mount in the box would have been nice. I got mine combined with the Ion Elite R front light as a set and I must say they are brilliant. Nice to be able to use as daylight running lights.

    I have the bontrager fenders and it just clips straight. Really pleased with it, being visible is the biggest priority for me.

    Oh man you are a lifesaver. I threw away the instructions at the store and the light was stuck at blink mode. The 8 second hold reset it

    Great review... I purchased one of these and love it, this light clips directly onto the back of my saddle(Versey Comp) so I don't need to worry about positioning it on my seat post...

    • @pizzamike88

      Does it come with the adapter for the saddle bag?

      @@pizzamike88 mine attaches directly to the saddle and not the saddle bag 👍

    Love the light and found immediately that cars tended to give me more room when passing. Mine didn't seem to last very long-maybe a year or two? Didn't seem to have an option to replace a battery. Maybe I charge it for too long?

    Thanks for the wonderful review. Does it connect with the Garmin and turn on/off with Garmin? I know the Flare RT rear light does but not sure about this one.

    Mine are two years old and 3 out of 4 of them won't hold a charge anymore. I've barely used these at all.

    Thanks for the great review. Do you know if this model will pair with a Garmin Edge? The 200 RT does apparently. I have this Flare City set, but can't get it to pair with my Edge 1030+

      @bane7967 Год назад +1

      YOU DON'T HAVE THE MODEL RT BUT ONLY R, THE T STANDS FOR TRANSMISSION
      AND THE FLARE R DOESN'T HAVE THAT.

    Night flash and day flash both 35lm, but 16/8h runtime? What?

    fine explanation/demo. thanks. any road/traffic/trail nighttime/daytime use reviews?
    Are You happy with the MAGNETIC HELMET MOUNTING devices? Strong enough not to LOSE lights? Ease of USE?
    The expert TREK MECHANICS at my local shop actually broke the real mount & had to replace THE HELMET, before I even got to monkey with it & fool with it myself. Confidence Bummer.

    is this have accelometer sensor, auto bright o deceleration

    • @CyclingOnAShoestring
      @CyclingOnAShoestring  3 года назад +1

      It adjusts to brightness. At night the light dims because it is darker and easier to see. During the day it brightens. Battery life will be affected depending on when you use it. I have done 6 hour daytime rides and the light was still flashing. No accelerometer or decelerometer.

    Is the battery replaceable...like a phone i would assume over time the battery is going to degrade much faster than the LED and i don't want to buy something built to be artificially obsolete because the battery cant be replaced

    • @CyclingOnAShoestring
      @CyclingOnAShoestring  4 года назад +1

      KSPRAY... I don't think it is. I am doing an update on this light this week because my battery failed. I contacted Bontrager and they replaced it with an updated version. All the best.

      @@CyclingOnAShoestring That's disappointing about the battery...even if it had to be done at authorized dealers it would be acceptable...I'll think about it as a choice but think I'll end up with something that uses replaceable batteries.
      So many comments about this light breaking...quality control issues, water into usb cover? I'd like to see them stand behind thier product for more than a year.
      Profile...buy all electronics on a credit card with extended warranty features.

    i just recharged my taillight for the first time. it doesn't turn on anymore. i assume that it has a faulty seal for the usb port. im going to try drying it out but i would assume that my taillight is completely fucked. until further notice, i would suggest not buying this dumb thing. i got it for christmas and i expected that it would work for longer than 3 weeks.

      Sorry to hear that. I would take it back to the place you bought it and see if you can have an exchange or have it replaced. Mine works great and has been through a lot of rain. Maybe you got a faulty product... that can happen. Bontrager's a pretty big company, they should be able to take care of you and make sure that you're happy. Good luck.

    This light is a piece of Chinese made crap! I bought this for my wife's bike after the sales person spoke about how good it was.
    What I found out that it was easy to depress the small lever and pull the light off of the strap, great so far, but then I went to put the light back onto the bracket and it won't go where it will stay on, the clip on the light won't grasp the lip on the strap bracket so the light just slides off. No matter how hard I press the light on while holding the clip down then release the clip it won't stay. I tried just pressing it in without holding the clip down and that didn't work either.
    So then I found out after mounting it and trying it outside, that in direct sunlight it's barely visible on strobe mode which for my wife who only rides during the day makes this light useless. At night it shows up just ok.
    This Bontrager Flare R City light cost me $40, but I have a NiteRider Omega 300, cost only 10 dollars more but instead of 40 lumens the Omega 300 puts out 300 lumens! The Omega 300 you can see in broad daylight a mile away a least! Not only that but it's made far better than the Bontrager is, even the stretchy band on the Omega 300 is about twice as thick as the Flare R City strap, the Omega 300 has more flash patterns, and as a huge bonus besides it's brightness is that it can be seen from the side whereas the Bontrager you can't see nothing from the side.
    So back to the bike shop to get a refund, and I'll get the NiteRider Omega 300 instead for my wife. After experiencing the Flare R City light I decided not to experience the Ion headlight because I'm sure it would be of similar quality.

      Sorry to hear that Mike. I have used and recharged mine many times without issue. Contact Bontrager (big company) or head back to the dealer and get your money back or a replacement. Sometimes there can be a bonus if you approach them the right way. Good luck.
