Ho. Ly. Crap. That man just curved an arrow!
I did! And it was very fun 😁
look up lars anderson lmao
@@blumineckYou fake you let aerodynamics do all the work. (Not counting the draw)
"lars andersen curved arrow"
Enough said.
Go search for Lars Anderson!
There's also the intimidation Factor. If you suddenly see arrows going in a direction that isn't going to hit you to curving towards your position you'll be now confused, scared and perhaps no longer in a defensive position you were just holding
Or be forced to vacate a defensive position out of fear leaving you open to a straight shot
@@KudaGeatsune3821 a mix of both would be essential to ruin a defensive wall of shields.
The problem with terror weapons is they only tend to work the first couple times.
@@digitaljanus point, still have arrows that move around a defined defense system will create logistical issues for a general to work with
Plus, it's a great interogation tactic

👈👈 I see what you did there (literally)
Okay, I’ll give you that one
isnt that what an arrow is?
aero (idk lost in word spelling of english of 700 AD)
idk arrows are older than any language truth be told. but if we had to pick a chicken(aero) and the egg (arrow)
i think the arrow came first and aero came retroactively to name stuff thay dealt with aerodynamics since the beloved arrow shows the concept of airflow around an object. idk find some fuddy duddy PhD english professor or Anthropologist to affirm my suspicions.

"It's a nightmare to aim" Nails a shot *around* another target into another one.
Ok but the crucial thing is that I knew where that target was. It's a lot harder if you're working with a moving target!
Man u are amazing keep the vids
@@blumineck
@@blumineck wouldnt it be somewhat similar to training normal archery? like, you master still targets and move to moving targets and practice with those. could be different with curving arrows, and ive also never shot a bow lol
@@mr.phantom674you tend to move from basic form to different kinds of bows and sights and stuff before you ever get to moving targets, plus any sort of system for moving targets would be more expensive than most places can afford
@@Inconsistent_Duckposting It could be like the frizbee things in shotgun shooting ranges where people yell "pull!" and then lead the target. It has a specific name but I don't remember.
"You see that archer from the UK? He's got curved arrows. CURVED. ARROWS."
... So that's why that bloke kept complaining...
Hahaha beat me to it!
Skyrim memes never get old.
I used to be a viewer like you, then I took a curved arrow to the knee
@@nhyllawi-an7970Damn you beat me to it
finally, an archery RUclipsr that stated that arrow lost it power when flying in curve path
It really bugs me when people make out that a trickshooting technique is some kind of ultimate war strategy. People knew this stuff back then, and there's a reason it wasn't used.
It's still fun for fantasy or niche scenarios though.
@@blumineck It's the same kind of logic I see people using when they try to argue about the efficacy of speed shooting in war. Naturally, any experience archer is probably going to be capable of it, but in a pitched battle it seems more likely you'll be keeping rhythm with the group you're in, since any situation dire enough is so unlikely that you won't need to pump them full of wood. I'm not an archer, so maybe I'm talking out of my ass on this, but if you see this, maybe discussing the practice of speed shooting in and out of war might be a good concept for a video.
@@blumineck Well you have to research for Mongol bow technique. Most war only focus on how to push as much arrow into the battle with the most force possible. The Mongol, is the top master of bow technique for small harassing skirmish and can shoot people hiding behind obstacle. Check for Lars Andersen, he could shoot curve without losing the power because he's a few true bow master who has 10+ years of practise
@@physical_insanityspeed shooting is completely impractical in a war setting, primarily because of this concept called a war bow. It is a bow with. I think it's like 100 plus pound draw weight, and if you got pretty much any modern archer and ask them to try speed shooting with such a bow, they would fail miserably
@@thewatcher62perfect example though, of choosing a particular bow and style for a particular type of warfare. Mongols didn’t use stationary longbowmen and the English didn’t shoot much from horseback

if you wanna see a real archer check out that blue dude from Guardians of the Galaxy, Yondu. now he could make an arrow do some curved shots.
You know what I was expecting the answer to be "no". Every day is a school day.
What I've learnt in my little time following this channel is that when blumineck asks "can you do this fantasy archery thing" the answer tends to be technically no but actually yes if you're willing to sacrifice actually being practically useful for the sake of being extremely cool.
A lot more stuff is possible than we think. Doesn't mean it's always useful, but it's usually fun!
@@bluminecki shall live by this quote. We all shall.
Ditto 😁🇦🇺
My reaction/interpretation is "yes, but you'd probably be better off using something that's designed to curve, such as a boomerang."
The ending was awesome.
Thank you 😁
i feel like we have fast-acting venoms irl don't we?
plenty.
Ye cyanide works just as fast as you see in movies
We also have explosives irl, as far as I recall.
But not fast enough.
@@kittyplayz1480 proof?🤣
I love that he explains how it would work IRL, but also doesn't attack fantasy settings for doing so, instead giving several examples of other fantasy tropes that allow the curving arrows to make sense in said fantasy setting.
Impressive and educational as always! Love it!
Thank you!
That’s very impressive! Thanks for sharing your talent and doing fun fantasy things!
Thank you! 😊 glad you enjoyed this!
Arrow twink now just be bending arrows round corners for the lols

I love these clips! Huge fantasy and history nerd, but the practical effects are beyond me. Seeing these demonstrations adds so much flavor to the understanding from someone with obvious expertise!
Grandma, this is what I mean when I say I'm straight as an arrow.
"I'm as straight as an over-fletched arrow"
If you don't want the arrow to go straight, just paint it in rainbow colors
got a snort out of me, congratulations.
this is the worst dad joke
And don't forget to shoot them from a rain bow!
@@Shmaplesand that's why it's the best
40K Orc logic.
I wonder if you could design it so the fletching would naturally snap back to the normal position.
Then you could have the arrow curve some amount, then continue to fly straight.
It's probably more engineering than it's worth. Also getting it to do that consistently at the same point would be very hard
Maybe if you had grooves in the arrow. That's messing with the structural integrity and is more likely to break when shot.
Also you're not going to regain the lost speed and power when it straightens out.
I could totally see Hawkeye having some though.
@@blumineck
So what you're saying is that this is something fictional people like Green Arrow and Hawkeye absolutely should have in their quiver, given their funding and tech levels.
Neat.
@techpriestessmicaela8441 Probably, though that costs you the biggest advantage of arrows; stealth.
Smart arrows with different payloads could be hilariously devastating though. Nice.
While it would require very small parts and would inevitably break every time the arrow is fired, it would be possible for an expensive one-time arrow that does this to be made. It would essentially require a small area inside the arrow to be hallowed out, allowing a small cylinder, preferably made of solid metal, to be placed inside. This would connect to at least 2 hinging mechanisms to be attached, such that when the cylinder moves back, each hinge would push out a small stopper, while being flush when the cylinder is towards the front. Attach the fletching to a loose ring further towards the front than where the hinges extend from. When the arrow is released, the cylinder will stay towards the back while the arrow accelerates, causing the hinges to stick out, keeping the ring that the fletching attaches to from going back, which it would otherwise do. Once the arrow starts decelerating partway through the launch, the cylinder will move towards the front, retracting the hinges. Since the fletching faces more air resistance than the rest of the arrow, the fletching will move down relative to the arrow until caught by a lip at the edge of the arrow. Now the fletching has ended at the bottom, so it will tend towards following a straight flight path.
It may be weaker but it still looks awesome when a professional shoots it like you, I love your videos keep it up
I genuinely want to hug this man.
(That's it, that's the comment.)
Physics is so goddamn amazing. This is something I never questioned to be possible outside of very extreme cases or in fantasy, because why would something so mindbreaking to someone that knows little about physics be something for them question? Yet, here I am, speechless and as giddy as a child on Christmas.
You are truly amazing!
Your vids are all brilliant and well worth watching. Always something to look forward to!
Thank you so much!
I’ve seen someone else curve an arrow multiple times in the same shot, it’s definitely possible
Yeah, I've seen it too.
In the trailer of Men in Tights.
(not in the actual movie for whatever reason)
Yes but IT will need a zekier(thumbring), there not so small of archer who can shot curved.
Lars
Was it me in my last video?
(I'm being facetious here, but it's a bit odd to tell me something's definitely possible in a video where I'm proving that it's possible)
but fwiw, James Jean does some incredible curving arrow shots!
@@albertojr.lorenzo2751 propably Lars etc.
Got a archery myth?
This guy will bust or confirm it. By actually doing it!
Like a wonderful team once did

Check out Lars Anderson. It's insane what that dude can do with a bow.
It's impressive but, it's mostly trick archery.
he using low pound bow to specialize only fast and trick shot tho
@sonoftheway3528 & @chin258456 agreed, but you can't deny the skill involved in his craft.
To be clear, I'm not comparing the two or saying one is more skilled than the other. I'm merely suggesting that people may also find Lars' channel entertaining as well.
I also wonder if using Lars' turning arrows technique would work on a stronger/heavier bow.
@@ArchknightAlpha Lar was entertaining until he started proclaiming his archery is the best in the world and other such nonsense. Like, the dude could have claimed to be the best trick shooter and be well-liked enough, but he just had to try and argue for the practicality of his tricks.
Yeah, I think he's awesome at what he does, but I do wish he'd be a bit more honest about his craft and the history of archery.
Such a clever, talented guy. Imagine the work that goes into these feats!
You can't fool me, you're using a patriot arrow!
😂😂😂😂😂
Wait, that wasn't in the script!
This man is a literal elf!
Curved boost for the algorithm!
I was shocked to find ranger is not so popular in BG3. But half-elf is top pick so you’re ok there! 😅
Thank you! Sadly Ranger has never really been very popular in D&D, so it was always going to struggle a bit in the game too
I was cleaning some of my parents stuff out of the shed in the backyard yesterday, and I noticed my little foam archery target sitting out there. Forgotten hobby unlocked.
And this is quality content that keeps bringing me back for more. You are incredible, answering the universe’s most perplexing questions.
While I never paid attention in my horticulture classes during high school, if you really dive into the subject, you will find a whole bunch of poisons that can be made from plants and that's before getting creative and trying to mix them together. There are plants that can cause instant temporary paralysis. Some can cause extreme pain but not threaten your life in any way unless you have some sort of medical condition. Plants are crazy I faintly remember getting taught about a plant that was extremely deadly, but I completely forget what it's called, but I remember being fascinated because it reminded me of the whole alchemy aspect of gardening.
The thing is, and the reason they weren't used a lot historically (although they were in some places), is that a) poisons only work on ingestion, so only venoms work on arrows, and they tend to be dangerous to acquire and hard to store.
b) carrying around a bunch of sharp objects that can kill someone with a light nick is generally a very risky procedure, and not just to your enemy
C) most of the time you can achieve a similar effect by just hitting someone hard with a sharp arrow.
Hypothetically it's an option, but it has tended to be more trouble than it's worth
Now I'm just imagining an RPG party where that one player tries to screw around and the rest of the party is like "dude, come on, lets just move up already" and the archer goes "I got this" and hits him in the face with the side of an arrow just to get his attention
In D&D 5e, Arcane Archer Fighters have a 6th level feature called curving shot which allows them to target another creature behind the one they missed for a second chance shot. Oh, and they have an Arcane Shot called seeking arrow which can go around corners or behind cover.
God i love this man
Hes literally the peak human being
I love these videos so much. Like its just a guy shooting a bow but he makes it look so fun.
Awesome man
Thanks!
He's so hawwwwt
"In more grounded forms of media...", he says as he plays a bit from Avengers, specifically one where the arrow is caught by a pop culture version of a Norse god capable of taking on other people's looks is flying through the air, in a universe that at the time was soon to include Scarlet Witch and Dr Strange.
Made me chuckle xD
pole dancing and archery are 2 of my favorite things. Never seen anyone combine them. Youre amazing.
If this guy gets a loom, we need to be worried.
You can also doge thin objects with the wobble of an arrow. But you need a lot of knowledge on how your arrows wobble in flight, and I am under the impression better arrow bow combo's wobble less.
Yes, you can do that, especially if you force a less stable flight!
Imagine you’re sat in your garden reading and you hear a funny noise and a whistle and then suddenly an arrow is impaled right into your fence
Your videos make me so nostalgic! Growing up in a rural area, I'd often prowl around barefoot shooting targets with a small bow and setting all sort of fun challenges for myself.
If I ever get a place with an actual backyard I'd love to take it back up again.
Shoot explosive arrow pls
Highly illegal in the UK
@@lordwellingtonthethird8486ye ur right maybe the a fire work attached to an arrow or one of those rocks that u throw on the ground and it makes a bang sound 😅😅
@@MarceliJarzebski used to jury-rig an impact detonator by sticking some clay and a nail to the backside of a .22lr cartridge without the bullet and just putting wax over the brass with the propellant inside and throw them nail-first so the nail acts like a firing pin and activates the primer and making a tiny explosion,
maybe if you fit a bigger container for the propellant/gunpowder and attach that+the makeshift detonator to the front of an arrow you can make a decent explosive arrow
Tech arrows with some kind of seeking would be difficult to design I think
Well, if you can manipulate the fletching (like airplane flaps), then you can probably make it change direction mid-flight. The downside is that arrows are also designed for mass production and generally don't stay in the air long enough to justify that kind of technology.
Unless you use magic, of course.
@@bluesbest1 Yeah i'd thought about the tech they use for planes and such but the cost, I wonder if seeking arrows are worth it
@@rebbekahcannons9805It's one thing to have a homing/guided missile, since a) they're big enough to have space for the tech, b) they're already expensive enough to not make the tech 95% of the cost, c) they deliver enough destruction to make it worth it, and d) they're in the air long enough for it to take effect.
None of this applies to arrows, at least not real world arrows. And unless the magic user can't use magic directly on enemies for whatever reason, then it'd be more efficient/effective to just cast Fireball.
I am have no idea why I started watching your videos, but u got me hooked
You gave me a new meaning to "as straight as an arrow" in more ways than one watching your content
It reminds me of my favorite futebol goal ever: Branco (from Brazil) shooting a curved ball in 94’s world cup. What a gem.
I like that you actually answered the question and demonstrated your point. 😊
This is my new favorite channel. Thank you RUclips algorithm! I’ve been shooting yew longbows my entire life (I know his is a recurve, but it’s still not a compound. Compounds are a whole different beast).

Fascinating. Ngl you're such an artisan, practician and renaissance guy.
You made me giggle like a kid with that last shot. Awesome stuff.
I love that he's so clear that this is great for fantasy but not for real life and why. :) Brilliant way to do a trick shot.
The fact that he hit that last shot is incredible.
this the only guy i subscribed at random without specifically looking for them other than sambucha and i am absolutely loving the content
I like recognizing this works in fantasy and not blurring the lines like so many others do
Man this guy seems like the perfect friend for me.

Ngl I know nothing about archery but you make me wanna try it out it looks so fun in each video
Ok now that's just feckin impressive. Awesome job!
Incredible content, as always 💖 Sending you love and light, my friend 💕✨
Now I wanna see a video game add a mechanic of reduced damage for curved arrows.
Seen this done years ago! Nice to see you doing it!
It might not be as effective, but simply knowing that this is possible in real life makes me so happy!
That is so cool! I'm a fantasy author and just started on a new book. Having arrows curve because of the fletching instead of magic or skills is an awesome idea I'll deffo end up using. Never thought it was really possible!
I love this dude
He actually knows his stuff

You've done it now. I want to see rocket powered, fin-stabilized, guided arrows shot from a longbow.
That is so cool, definitly gonna use this in my writing!
Given the monologue, I thought he was gonna make the balloon explode with that last shot
This has actually given me an idea for use in one of my fantasy world's magic system. It fits so nicely.
I imagine this man has arrows of any size, shape and weird tips that make the arrow fly a bit differently
Reminded me of a novel Im reading about a genius archer and he's now just blowing people's minds getting head shots with curved shots
was not expecting you to be able to do it that was awesome
at this point I am convinced that if someone asked him if it was possible to shoot a vampire blood coated arrow at the sun to turn daytime into a blood eclipse, this guy would make a step by step tutorial on how to do it with all of it's pros and cons
Im just imagining a scene where an arrow curves, misses their targer who proceeds to laugh thinking they're safe, right before noticing the fuse slowly burning on the end of the arrow
Guy from Wanted: “I can curve my bullets”
Bluminek: “hold my quiver.”
another fantastic showcase of arrow Curving is my Lars Andersen, who was so skilled with arrow curving, he was confident enough to curve an arrow around a line of people and hit the target behind them, as well as non-stationary targets, he did this without altering the flights from what is shown in his video, "Lars Andersen: Turning Arrows"
This just might be the coolest dude on RUclips
That was so cool, just enjoy your videos
