I believe most or some of the ships offer daycare or babysitting services until 11pm. So paying the extra fee for a baby-sitter for a few hours would have been the smartest and safest thing to do.
Maybe they forgot about the British couple on vacation in Portugal who left their young daughter in their room while they went to dinner. When they returned, the child was gone and has never been found or seen again. Parenting is a 24/7 obligation and not only when it is convenient.
I was thinking of this exact example, Madeleine McCann. Agree, 100% that patenting is 24/7. These parents appear to have been lucky that the children were unharmed, but I think they took unnecessary and selfish risks.
You never leave little kids like that alone!!! They had the monitors & posted about it because they've done this before & nothing has happened. For those who think it's ok, have done it, or may have thought to leave your babies alone, DON'T!!! All it takes is one time for a tragedy to occur. Do you want to be that one?
They planned on leaving their kids in the room. That's why they brought a baby monitor with them. First of all, they should be investigated and then arrested. Child abuse
Even if they saw that one of the kids was awake or in trouble it could have taken then 10 minutes to get from the dining room back to the cabin. A son could have choked to death in that time. Their You Tube channel should be shut down. So many people (steward, maintenance, room service people and on and on) have ability to enter your room with master medallions.
Completely selfish behavior. Shame, shame, SHAME on these parents for leaving their children alone. So many other options available to them. "Poor parenting decision" is a huge understatement...
We didn’t start cruising until our son was 9. We wanted him to enjoy the experience and remember it. He also enjoyed the kids club. We made a lot of great memories.😊
The couple earned the criticism they are receiving. In parenting like other things in life you can't always do everything you want when you want to do them. It’s called sacrifice for the greater good. Their first mistake was rationalizing a bad plan in order to get some short term self-gratification. Their second mistake was bragging about it online to get views (and revenue). You should look at day trips from London.
The number of reported crime against children on ships recently even by staff is scary. Knowing how poorly WIFI works on ships at sea, there is no way that the system worked flawlessly. Social service should pay them a visit based on their admission of leaving them alone. Don't want to deal with the kids? Use the child care services or find someone to care for the kids at home while you cruise. And as frequent cruises they know that there were alternatives. The cruise line should also ban them for life for this! The fact that they thought to bring the monitors says that this is was planned and likely not the only time they did this. Just outrageous!
A one year old and a two year old?? That is horrendous. Babies can roll out of bed and hit their head on the nightstand. Kids can eat medications that look like candy. Anything can happen.
Me too. Unbelievable to leave toddler and a baby alone? What? So irresponsible. Sounds like they are very full of themselves with social media and money.
The fact they they didn’t think that was wrong until the backlash tells me they are not fit to be parents. CPS should get involved, I wonder what other bad parenting decisions they make when they aren’t creating content.
So this is just about as bad as the woman from Houston Texas that left the monitors on at home and left her 3 yr and 6 year old for a week while she went on a cruise out of Galveston. She went to jail and lost her kids
Well, you answered my question! It’s bad enough that they would leave those babies in the cabin, monitored by the cruise undependable wi-fi operative baby monitoring system, but to tell the world? Really, I can’t believe it….. smh, I hope they get it that they were definitely wrong. Follow up please, this may not end well. OMG, Don, you maybe the one person that figured it out, they had plan to do this all along because why would you need a monitoring system in a small space like a cabin cruise? Was this a brainstorming idea they came up with to boost content viewing? Well look like that idea will backfire! SMH
Good point Don….there is no way one would need a child monitor on a cruise ship, the cabins are very small. And most cruise lines ban them. This couple were just plain wrong to leave their children alone in the room while they enjoyed dinner. They should have ordered room service if the children were sleeping.
They’re backtracking now and saying of course there was someone in the room… they would never leave their kids alone. Yet there would be no need for the post if that were the case. Damage control did not seem believable, their body language screamed guilt.
Two and one? Leaving children that young is criminal in the US. Even if it is just going out to dinner. The cruiseline they were on should ban them. If for no other reasom, had something happened, it would have been bad PR for them.
You never leave your children alone, especially at that age for many years I’ve been cruising and I took my little ones aboard and they were with me at all times.
What would have happened if a fire broke out and you weren't allowed back to your room? What if one throw up and started choking? That is just being stupid! They shouldn't be parents!
I don’t think they need to be arrested but they definitely need some parenting classes . Hopefully this experience changed and humbled them as parents. It just take one second for a child to be hurt or snatched.
I guess this couple has never heard of Madeleine McCann? Her parents did exactly the same thing, not on a cruise ship but at a resort in Portugal. They left her alone in the room to sleep, and they went to dinner with friends. They were a lot closer to the room where Madeleine was sleeping than this couple was to their cabin. They could even see the room from the table they were seated at. And they had a monitor. We all know how that turned out. Madeleine disappeared from the room and has never been found. That was in 2007. Madeleine is STILL missing and authorities are presuming that she’s no longer alive. When will people LEARN????
I came looking for exactly this comment because I knew there must be others who are familiar with the McCann’s. Maybe the parents are too young to have followed the case but shouldn’t parents know better?
If this happened in the UK I can guarantee that the police and social services would be investigating. I doubt you guys across the pond are much different. You NEVER leave your children if you are any kind of responsible parent. If the kids don't like ships, stay at home, go on a different holiday, but NEVER EVER LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN ALONE.
Yes Illegal in the US too. I am a past child abuse investigator. Only did it for a handful of years before I was done. Countless stories about kids being left at home or in a car unattended and hurt. At the least parents should be banned from this cruise line.
What poor judgment! Who leaves their children alone like that and then brags about it on social media? Only someone who did not consider the negative ramifications of the choice.
I saw that Abby pisted the kids weren't "enjoying" dinner. I don't know any 1 or 2 year olds who enjoy going out to dinner, especially after a busy vacay day. Maybe this couple should take some child development classes so they could have more realistic expectations of babies. Apparently the grandparents were on the cruise which seems like a great backup if they agree but leaving the kids in the cabin is just irresponsible.
Every cruise I’ve taken my kids on has had a child care option, and it was a great service. My kids love at it at every age. It was vee most of the time and only had a fee for special times. Why they thought this was a good idea is beyond me.
What neglectful behavior. Smh - the facade of “perfect life” - unfortunately, in today’s society where some want to live their lives publicly, you can’t make mistakes like that for the world to see
I have brought a baby monitor when I had my child sleeping on the other side of a curtain on a cruise ship so I could confirm when they fell asleep and woke up. I NEVER left him in a room alone. I have been cruising and vacationing with my son since he was 6 months old and have never felt the need to leave them alone or even in care. Why bring them if you aren’t going to properly care for them? I sincerely hope they are getting investigated for this. Especially because they posted this. They thought they were being clever, but they were just being delinquent.
My gosh! Didn’t they ever hear about little Madeline, who was abducted from the hotel room when the parents and friends were down in the dining room? They never found that child.
Seriously, it could have easily gone the other way, and then he'd be stuck or trying to cobble together a land trip to the US and then an international flight. The way I see it, he's spending some extra time in London, so things could be a lot worse!
So, how many parents normally bring baby monitors on their cruises? It sounds like they either have done this before, or they came up with this FABULOUS idea before the cruise and at no point did they think this was maybe not a good idea.
They also had Matt's parents with them as it was their anniversary. They could have watched the kids! But Matt and Abby are the most immature so-called adults I've ever seen. I've seen some of their podcasts, and they aren't even mature enough to be married, let alone have 2 kids. I hope CPS intervenes.
The cruise line really needs to get involved in this and perhaps ban them. Maybe not for life but long enough that they don't have any children with them. If something had happened to these children, you can bet that this couple would be fully blaming the cruise line for it and take no responsibility for it at all.
I was just on a Carnival cruise and they claim that children must be supervised on a letter left in our state room at the beginning of the cruise. However, during the cruise a four year old was left unattended in the hot tub splashing the adults. Security said they wouldn’t do anything about it. When the parents were located they yelled at the adults in the hot tub saying they paid for their daughter to be in there. The father got in and it almost got into a physical fight with another man until a wife stepped between. Carnival Security is the worst. I will never sail with them again.
I think your travel decision for this trip was the right one. You had no control over Air Canada being there when you would need them. So you took control of the situation and changed your plans to ensure you could get the cruise you really wanted.
Nope nope nope……I do remember the days with my little ones. I know how frustrating it is. But they would have been better for one to stay with the kids while the other eats then comes back and the other goes to eat. I don’t trust like that when it comes to my kids.
As a special needs nanny educator, if I left a child or children alone, I would be fired, arrested, and never allowed to work with children again. They have child care on the ship, so why not use them. It only takes a second for a tragedy to happen. What's wrong with the parents. As we speak, I'm sitting in a room while the child in my care is napping, and I do have a baby monitor. I feel I couldn't get to her quick enough in an emergency. So many things could happen. How long would it take to get to the room. What if the elevator is busy and you have to wait. Some people should not be parents. Shame on them.
Not an excuse but from what I’d read the kids weren’t happy in the kids club and didn’t like going so they moved their dinner time so the kids would be asleep. They were supposedly watching on FaceTime which I thought didn’t work on cruises!
At home, one of the couple’s parents lives with them. They have a lot of help. I don’t think they’re used to having to care for the kids alone 24/7. Even on other vacations, they seem to have gone with family. Just my opinion, based on occasionally watching their videos. I’m glad that the kids are safe and hopefully the parents have learned something important 🙏
Bad bad decision. It’s not even fair on the cruise line. Someone has to be responsible for whatever happens to those kids. The internet is not good even on those ships, what happens if the monitor goes down and you don’t know? I would always think the worst .
Yah that couple made a poor decision. I get it, kids can get fussy especially at that age. But they made the decision to expand their family. They made the decision to take that expanded family on a cruise. This means you need to be responsible parents and that cruise starts becoming more about the kids and not about you enjoying a long luxurious meal with your spouse. There are services on these cruises for in room infant care if they really want that night out alone without the kiddos. But just leaving the infant and toddler alone in the stateroom with nothing but a facetime baby monitor.... that is not wise parenting. Get the babysitting, send the kiddo to the nursery. But dont set up baby monitors and expect that to be parenting.
I think it was crazy to do that. You’re on a ship and too many things can happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if cruise companies come out saying children under a certain age are not allowed to be left unattended in state rooms
Do they not remember Madeleine McCann who’s parents left her in the hotel and she went missing never seen again! The American social services need to look into this because it is considered child neglect.
The buffet, the pizza place the hamburger joint , any venue on the ship! Welcome to parenthood! You not only had a couple kids, you took them somewhere for vacation and they were inconvenient??? No dice here. Maybe their gambling with their kids lives will get them a special vacation in a special cell. Oops I meant room
Well, it’s a different time, but those of us who were kids in the 1950s and 1960s were always with our parents, except when we went to school. Parents did not go on vacations where they could not be with their kids 100% of the time. You went to the beach, you went camping. You realized that kids were a responsibility that would temporarily restrict your life. You never went very far from home. There were little kid amusement parks all over, in all the states, to accommodate families with small children. Nowadays young parents do not want the kids to keep them from doing their pre-marriage adult activities!
@@nicolad8822 really? That might be because things are closer together in the UK and Europe than here. Also, you have good train service, and we don’t. We also went to visit relatives. One set was a five-hour drive away, the other set 9 to 10 hours! And we never flew - that was for rich people (this was before deregulation.)
People are so ready to share their everyday adventures and wonder why they get the reactions they get. It would be the last thing you'd want to share if you leave babies alone in a cruise cabin. There are babysitting services on board and if you can't get one, then get room service and enjoy your food in the cabin while your bubs sleep. Having children is not only a gift but a responsibility. They are not accessories.
I would have never ever even thought of leaving my toddlers alone in the room. There are a lot of sketchy people out there nowadays, even cruise employees!!
A 1 and 2 yr old left alone, vlogged and posted and have not been arrested or investigated for child safety and endangerment 🤷🏻♀️🤦♀️. Making a bad decision about going early on your vacation doesn’t endanger you. This was insane. A 1 yr old is crawling. Standing up and holding on reaching for things and learning to walk. If the kids were 6 and 7 it would just as bad. My kids were 7 & 8 and never out of my sight.
This is disturbing to say the least. Never ever would we leave the kids unattended like that. To many things could have happened. The kids should be your first priority.
Hey Don. I hope you are able to make the best of your week in London. I would love to see some videos about how to make the most of a pre-cruise stay in a city like London. There are so many factors to consider when choosing your hotel and what to do there.
Apparently there was extended family staying in the same cabin with the babies. There was always an adult with them. They just happened to ALSO have the monitors in the cabin as well.
You didn't make a mistake regarding going to London early. My travel insurance has a "strike list" which the insurance will not cover it. You'll be covered by making that change which means you'll be covered if something goes wrong on the cruise itself.
It would only take a few minutes for either child to slip and fall anywhere in the room.....bad move. Plus the steel construction of the ship would make it impossible for the wireless signal to go further than just a few feet.
I believe most or some of the ships offer daycare or babysitting services until 11pm. So paying the extra fee for a baby-sitter for a few hours would have been the smartest and safest thing to do.
I saw on another post that’s what they ‘originally’ were planning to do but it was full.
Maybe room service then.😥😳🙄
You need a passport to travel and a license to drive, but any idiot can have a kid... be better parents, people!!
And a license to fish!
Maybe they forgot about the British couple on vacation in Portugal who left their young daughter in their room while they went to dinner. When they returned, the child was gone and has never been found or seen again. Parenting is a 24/7 obligation and not only when it is convenient.

More than likely, these people are too young to know about poor Madeleine. None the less STUPID!
The first thing I thought was Maddie McCann

Geez! Who leaves infants alone? I have to call this absolutely crazy. They absolutely should be investigated by CPS.
They planned on leaving their kids in the room. That's why they brought a baby monitor with them. First of all, they should be investigated and then arrested. Child abuse
Fact!
Without a doubt!
Even if they saw that one of the kids was awake or in trouble it could have taken then 10 minutes to get from the dining room back to the cabin. A son could have choked to death in that time. Arrest them

Child endangerment!!!! They need to be charged! I'm not shocked with these types of people! Smh.
I can't believe two grown adults made that stupid decision to leave two toddlers alone on a cruise ship.
Not mature enough to have children in their custody, someone needs to do something. Children get stolen, raped, sold, killed, not acceptable...
TODDLERS.....NONETHELESS....
We didn’t start cruising until our son was 9. We wanted him to enjoy the experience and remember it. He also enjoyed the kids club. We made a lot of great memories.😊
Child neglect is not just a mistake...that's a crime, actually...
Get room service and eat on balcony
The couple earned the criticism they are receiving. In parenting like other things in life you can't always do everything you want when you want to do them. #1 against any cruise policy ....so what will be the consequences because they gave others ideas on how to leave "toddlers" unattended!
Hope they are denied further cruising
They need to get a lifetime ban from Cruising!
Don don’t beat yourself up too bad. Try to enjoy your week and take some video of your adventures
Don, I thought you were going to say the children were, maybe 5 & 7. When you said 1 & 2 I nearly fell out of my chair.
I was thinking 9 and 12 maybe....but toddlers?! Smh!

They obviously planned to leave them alone or they wouldn't have taken the monitors.
The fact they they didn’t think that was wrong until the backlash tells me they are not fit to be parents. CPS should get involved, I wonder what other bad parenting decisions they make when they aren’t creating content.

Suspect this isn't first time they've left them alone.
Even if the monitors were working it is child endangerment to leave kids that age alone. They need to be jailed and kids moved to a safe environment.
Child Protective Services should be informed. That is a selfish act. Shame on them!
Well, you answered my question! It’s bad enough that they would leave those babies in the cabin, monitored by the cruise undependable wi-fi operative baby monitoring system, but to tell the world? But just leaving the infant and toddler alone in the stateroom with nothing but a facetime baby monitor.... that is not wise parenting. Get the babysitting, send the kiddo to the nursery. But dont set up baby monitors and expect that to be parenting.
I think it was crazy to do that. You’re on a ship and too many things can happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if cruise companies come out saying children under a certain age are not allowed to be left unattended in state rooms
Can’t believe this!
Are children 's services investigating? Get a babysitter in your home town if you need to go on any vacation that your children won't enjoy.
The Cruise line should report them and then ban them!
I would love a week in London followed by a cruise. Definitely not a mistake!
CPS needs to be notified and they need to be banned from all cruises.
I can't believe they left the kids in the room alone
I would think I could have a lot of fun in London for a week. Go to the queen’s tomb, ride the Chunnel over to Paris, etc. etc. Go have some fun!!
NEVER, especially a 1 and 2 year old!
We had a fire on our cruise, never would have made it from the dining room.
Completely the opposite in my experience in the UK.
Imagine what they do at home. Run out for a quick movie? grocery score run?
No such thing as a "wasted week" in London!
Adds a significant amount to costs.
Sorry the young family didn’t realize what could happen
A 1 and 2 yr old left alone, vlogged and posted and have not been arrested or investigated for child safety and endangerment 🤷🏻♀️🤦♀️. Making a bad decision about going early on your vacation doesn’t endanger you. This was insane. A 1 yr old is crawling. Standing up and holding on reaching for things and learning to walk. If the kids were 6 and 7 it would just as bad. My kids were 7 & 8 and never out of my sight.
A 2yr old and 1 yr old???? That's neglect isn't it?
Wow. What if one of them started choking? You have to be there. Negligent. They have no insight into what can happen and what the consequences are.
This is disturbing to say the least. Never ever would we leave the kids unattended like that. To many things could have happened. The kids should be your first priority.
Kids that age shouldn’t be on a cruise ! Sorry,!
Hey Don. I hope you are able to make the best of your week in London. I would love to see some videos about how to make the most of a pre-cruise stay in a city like London. There are so many factors to consider when choosing your hotel and what to do there.
This reminds me so much of the Madeleine McCain story. Such an unnecessary risk to take with young babies. So much can go wrong.
They should hope CPS doesn't get wind of this!
There is no CPS at sea. They are subject to maritime laws, not the laws of the departing port.
Apparently there was extended family staying in the same cabin with the babies. There was always an adult with them. They just happened to ALSO have the monitors in the cabin as well.
Then why did they not mention that there was child minder in the same room instead of promoting the child abandonment hack.
Never would I do this- things can happen way too quickly!!
You didn't make a mistake regarding going to London early. My travel insurance has a "strike list" which the insurance will not cover it. You'll be covered by making that change which means you'll be covered if something goes wrong on the cruise itself.
Not no but, HELL NO!!!!!!!
It would only take a few minutes for either child to slip and fall anywhere in the room.....bad move. Plus the steel construction of the ship would make it impossible for the wireless signal to go further than just a few feet.
Hi Don- sounds like The little girl in Portugal Maddie left in room
