  • Someone offered me our most favourite vacuum the other day, a Miele Blizzard. It's got a problem with the self cleaning mechanism, is it a simple fix for this awful vacuum cleaner? Let's have a look!

I'd leave that exhaust filter in as it is, as long as the pre-motor filter stays undamaged, it wont let much dust pass through it, although it looks really bad when it is banged and flicked, it should all be on the one side of the filter, meaning no dust actually goes through the motor. Only if the fins of that filter get damaged and then start letting dust through should the exhaust filter be given attention. At present, it just has carbon dust from the motor brushes, so it is fine.
I was shouting at the screen when you started prying that pre-filter chamber apart with a screwdriver - NO SAM, twist the top and it comes open as its designed to, lol, but you seemed to realise that later anyway. At least you only broke one small bit off, so not too much damage done.
I think there is a small tube that leads from one of the air passages to the main PCB that senses the vacuum build up, and tells it that the pre-filter is clogged, from when I dismantled the one I had ( and still do have ). They are not great machines really, but unless that pre-filter gets damaged, the exhaust filter should be OK it only absorbs very fine dust and the carbon dust from the motor.
Do it up and sell it on, should make you a few quid seeing as you paid nothing for it in the first place.

Miele Blizzards do have potential, yet that self cleaning mode needs more work in production. I still find them quirky and different than the other bagless vacuums on the market, wonderful job!

Had one of these for years, only ever had the popcorn mode (as I call it) come on incessantly after about 3 years of abuse, but after giving the filter a good clean it worked perfectly. I love the self cleaning feature personally, while Dyson’s require tri monthly cleaning, this tank sorts itself out. Just remember to take the filter housing out after every second bin emptying or so and dump out the dust.

    It's a miele cx toilet 🚽
The suction is rather disappointing with the turbo head. Ibasiac did a demo with the brand new boost cx1 which has the same motor as this the turbo head span just as slowly as yours did. I was hoping the 890w motor would be good for turbo heads but I guess not. I still want to get a cx1 boost though because i like the design same for the blizzard

We've had one of those close to 3 years now. It's never "comfort-cleaned" on it's own, I've hit the button occasionally but I just pull the filter and clean it myself which seems to transform the performance for a little while. The Turbo head gets mullerd by hair though, ours just doesn't spin like it did new and I've had it apart and removed every bit of hair I can find. The main problem was hair wrapped around the gear for the belt. Is it worth going into the unit and checking that exhaust filter? Could that be cleaned with compressed air to extend its life and performance maybe? Also, the fine dust filter in the dust compartment just pulls out towards you.

I think the Miele cx1 boost is a better design than the blizzard. My sister has a blizzard I don’t think hers self cleans that much, Even though I know she’s not that great at maintaining it. One thing I can’t understand is why people love this turboteq head so much it’s terrible. I can vacuum my carpet which would have a bit of pet hair on it and the roller would completely be jammed with hair! So I’ve gone back to the older turbohead on my c3.

I wash my Blizzard’s filter once a month and have never, ever had any build up of dust in the bottom of the filter’s cartridge. Never. This one looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in months if not longer.
