hey! does anyone know where to find the documentary "concentration face " that he mentions? really really nice video btw super cool content dude keep up!
Yeah, he's known for not being a technique nut the way Zach is, & respected more for having sorta just brute forced the 100,000 hours of practice being entirely self taught, with a really unique style, set up & attitude... Check his posture & the way he holds his sticks. If he ever did take lessons or emulate others early on, none of it stuck, which isn't a knock in the slightest, it's incredible because it made him who he is. He may not be the most ergonomically efficient or whatever, but the trade off is no one else on the planet sounds exactly like he does, which makes him valuable in all sorts of unique & beautiful ways. He's a real testament to what you can accomplish through just being a furnace of sheer ambition & individuality... There are many paths to the (hypermagic) mountain top as they say & this is a perfect example: if you don't like counting, then screw it, just learn stuff by feel. It's actually the most "Brian Chippendale" thang you could do
0:41 that’s an excellent point i feel like an essential part of zach hill’s drumming is just doing what feels good to you rather than strictly focusing on specifics. It always comes down to fundamentals.
Yeah, wasn't really thinking about DG. Often their production makes it hard to hear Zach's drum parts. I'd go more backward in Zach's catalog, but you do you! 👍
We are so back!
LFG! Thanks for watching!
The ladies?! There's a Zach project I haven't heard of?!

Hey thank you! It's on youtube, just type in 'concentration face'
What about Lightning Bolt/Brian Chimpendale drumming? I have dyscalculia and I get intimidated if counting is involved 😫
Brian is a great drummer! Don't worry about counting. I never play thinking about the count, just play until the rhythm feels right. You've got it~!

some death grips erasure in this video. jenny death in particular is the first place i'd go for zach hill playing in 4/4

First Crime In Choir album is an absolute treasure trove of Zach techniques embodied in 4/4 phrasing
