Bought the original plain Jane Vac700r over 2 years ago and somehow ended up adding 2 more (Iris) within the last year! Wonderful engineering for a $100 pen and great nibs out of the box. The added benefit of the closed piston is they are great for air travel, no accidental pressure burping. The valve also prevents burping due to temperature fluctuations as well in day to day use.
You have smaller hands than I do. I have to post mine to make it long enough to be comfortable. I have to admit, this is my favorite fountain pen so far (though I have a Pilot Custom 823 arriving from Nibsmith in the coming week and I'll have something to compare with it). I write a LOT, so the large ink capacity of a vacuum filler is welcome, and I use the TWSBI Vac 20a Ink Bottle to fill it to the brim in a single shot every single time. Well worth the tiny extra cost (~$15.00 US). My Sailor 1911L is a nice writer, but it is so short that even posted it gets lost in my hand and I hate the tiny ink capacity of the Sailor converter.
I similarly partly pulled the feed out of my ECO. Didn't damage against the cap, but it started to blob. Pushed it back into place and all is well

Really struggled to get the nib out of this and wrecked yhe fins in the process. Nob got scratchy very quickly. Love the size of the reservoir though, whoch makes this a very viable main daily user, especially if you use inks with shimmer as you van mix them without pumping ink all over the show.
Just bought one with an EF nib. Like the fact it is a wet nib. It is similar in mechanics to the 823. I wish the Pilot had more options available, like a Falcon nib (I know it can be had but finding one is impossible.)
You can get an 823 with the FA nib depending upon where you buy the pen
I hate the vac filling mechanism... I love my Pilot 823, but I hate cleaning it... I hate filling it... So i brought the diamonda 580 version of the Iris.
Thanks for the comprehensive tutorial on this pen. Just got it and was struggling with filling - not realizing it reverse plunges to fill. :P

Great review. Which one would you pick between Vac 700 or Diamond 580. I understand that both are very decent pens, I'm more about easy to use and clean ups. Thanks in advance, person woman men tv camera...

I'm debating between this and a second hand vanishing point in F with a small dent on it :p both cost the same
Edit: the nib on this pen felt very underwhelming. It was a bit too chonky. I didn't like it. I'm saving for the elite 95s or the penider avatar lol
Where do you get more of these iris nibs should you want to change it to a larger or smaller size, ie fine to medium?
Beautiful Pen, I got it too, but probably I should not have gone for the EF first. Now I'm hesitating between the F and M as a second model

I would rather this finish on a diamond 580 though, how likely do you think it is that they will do that?

I want one of these but I am going to a pen show next month so I don't know whether to get one or save in case I find something at the show! What should I do?
I would wait until you go to the show. You can get the 580 anytime from any online retailer. You might be surprised & find something really nice at the show you would have never thought of.

I've noticed it for long, your hands make the pens look so much smaller. Watching this review i had to get my pen out to check if it is really that small, LOL.

Ok great thanks for sharing the info. I got it writing as good as new now. But would love to have a spare in a different size to have fun with it
