Different crowds 2 lives as Different as they could possibly be, but they came together over guitar and music. I'd have done anything to be a fly on that wall listening in on that conversation!!! Your take away was something negative? I'll never understand people!!!
@@GaryonWheels Hes talking guitarists. To say you had no idea Prince could play guitar, especially when they both peaked around the same time, is absurd. Doesn’t matter if it’s 2 different genres. So was SRV, and Prince was a lot more well known and sold more albums than SRV. I still love ZZ Top and Billy Gibbons, but this blew me away. Imagine Fred Estaire saying, “I had no idea Michael Jackson could dance until 2004”
I remember watching and listening to Purple Rain in the 80s because I had an older brother that had that album and watched the movie. That was when I realized that he was a good guitar player, as well as a straight up badass entertainer. He had the dance moves of James Brown and played guitar like Hendrix. What was not to like?
Little known fact: the opening guitar rift was the result of a mistake. Prince admitted to Billy Gibbons that he played it once and wasn't able to repeat it again (maybe he figured it out later in life?)
“I knew he held the guitar but I didn’t see him play it much?” The fuck? ZZ Top’s Eliminator album dropped in 1983. Purple Rain dropped in 1984. Let’s Go Crazy was on number 1 for many weeks ZZ Top wasn’t even in the Top 20. He knows damn well Prince could play. He just didn’t want to give him credit UNTIL the performance at the Rock Hall. I can’t believe he said that.
Prince was a stone cold guitar player. He made an album called "3121". On it is a song called "The Word". He plays a straight up Santana solo. I later read that Santana was his guy because he played prettier. He made that statement when someone compared Prince to Hendrix as far as guitar playing was concerned. If you listen to that song, you see Prince really dug Carlos.....
On an interview with prince for a music mag he got asked" Whats it like to be the best guitar player in the World", Dunno he replyed, Ask Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits.
1:59 How how the f***? How can this man, who's in the music profession, not know Prince, who's been playing since the 70s, and was a bad a$$ on the guitar!??? It's bc he didn't want to know. White Europeans, though, had no such disrespect or ignorance.
@RockPolitics Well, you clearly don't understand that professional guitarists, at its highest level, are a rare breed. "In 2001, Rolling Stone named him(Gibbson) the 32nd greatest guitarist of all time."🤷 Other great electric guitarists know other greats, even across genres and the world! Not to mention, Prince's guitar was all over the 80s media. But if you want to make yourself justify this man's supposed ignorance about Prince, that's on you buddy. But I will not.
They got caught off guard because they were shallow and didn't respect him him because of their chosen genre. That solo was a joke compared to what black artists already knew about PRINCE.
Prince was not just pop artist. He play every genre of American music. He played it ALL!!!

Really? That's what you took from that story? Prince played every instrument lol. They played different genres.
Sad that it took Billy Gibbons that long to recognize Prince. Especially given Prince’s blues and jazz chops.
Sae Prince live a few times. He was magnificent
I remember watching and listening to Purple Rain in the 80s because I had an older brother that had that album and watched the movie. That was when I realized that he was a good guitar player, as well as a straight up badass entertainer. He had the dance moves of James Brown and played guitar like Hendrix. What was not to like?
RIP Prince 🙏😔
CLAPTON PLAYING LEFT HANDED.
This is excellent
I never liked Prince’s music but he was a genius, I’ll give that.
I like Mayer much more just for this intro. Respect
Coming from the man Billy him self! How ! How! How! The air is fine!-)
EL SOLO DE PRINCE EN ..GUITARRA VAS A LLORAR..ABSOLUTAMENTE INIGUALABLE
Little known fact: the opening guitar rift was the result of a mistake. Prince admitted to Billy Gibbons that he played it once and wasn't able to repeat it again (maybe he figured it out later in life?)
Prince.was.even.better.on.piano...
Prince was genius. He is missed.
What’s legendary them. I get Prince being stated as such. The others are that because the industry says😏!
Get the guide was one of the most awesome guitar players ever
The way other great guitar players gushed over Prince - he must have been good !
A Function of Talent- JM (a lyric bro; way to go).
Prince is God of music
My biggest takeaway from this is that Steve Vai's hands are f**kin HUGE.
And of course Prince was a one off.
When you hear Purple Rain you no Prince is a brilliant guitarist .great musician.
Didn't Billy Gibbons watch the movie, "Purple Rain"?
Can anyone dislike Prince and his music?
On an interview with prince for a music mag he got asked" Whats it like to be the best guitar player in the World", Dunno he replyed, Ask Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits.
🤮
That’s hilarious 😂
😂 nice switch up of an old urban myth
1:59 How how the f***? How can this man, who's in the music profession, not know Prince, who's been playing since the 70s, and was a bad a$$ on the guitar!??? It's bc he didn't want to know. White Europeans, though, had no such disrespect or ignorance.
Yeah because they were very busy COPYING whatever black Americans did.
@@JayS64 you just did justify it.
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
What did Prince play at George Harrison's memorial?
Nobody’s better tho than Clapton playing his guitar left handed as seen in this video.
you forgot david gilmour's tribute to prince
😁
You lost me when you had Clapton playing LEFT-HANDED 😂😂😂😂
Prince was a genius. Like Frank Zappa - period
Was that Michael J Fox filming the billy gibbons interview? I feel sea sick after that
Agreeing with John Mayer feels weird
Who knew Eric Claption was left handed? When did that happen?
Who in the hell is this blonde bearded dude talking about he didnt understand how deep and talented prince was on the guitar in the beginning? Tf
They got caught off guard because they were shallow and didn't respect him him because of their chosen genre. That solo was a joke compared to what black artists already knew about PRINCE.
