I totally understand her reason for getting into watercolour painting, because my story is similar. Although, I haven't yet had the benefit of attending any classes or workshops from experts. My teachers are the wonderful artists who I have discovered on RUclips channels, especially this channel "Put some colour in your life". Great work Graeme, I really appreciate the record you are creating of modern watercolour painting artists by doing all these featured interviews with demos. You can see in her painting style that she has a method to her approach. I love the way she uses beautifully intense colours, as many artists of this painting style tend to me more dominant in the use of greys. What I see here is an artist who has taken the discipline and structure from what she has learnt, but then injected her own personality and spirit into the work. The result, for me, is a much more vibrant and interesting painting. The muted background contrasts with the more developed and pigmented areas which creates a mood, depth and atmosphere that draws you in to find the interesting features and focal point of the painting.
@@ColourinyourlifeAu Hi Graeme, I know very little about art to write about it, but thanks. I just express my opinion based on my own learning path experience and a bit of intuition I suppose. I am from London originally, but now live in Spain (for the second time).
Maryanne, I enjoyed seeing you paint and love your gorgeous paintings! After I have finished quilts for all of my grandchildren, I plan to get back to my watercoloring. Over the last couple of years the grandkids have started their painting journeys. All are good artists and they love being watercolorists! Thanks so much for the video and informative tips! You are truly an inspiration! Thanks to Graeme, too, for the wonderful series!

Valerie Breazeale Hi Valerie, didnt realise i had all these messages to answer until the other day but I do so appreciate your kind words Happy painting to you maryanne holmes
I learned a lot from this episode actually, must have replayed several sections a dozen times while working on a similar painting and it really improved the depth of my cityscape. That being said, i think landscapes and city scenes are great (i primarily focus on them myself in my work) but id like to see some abstract demonstrations and hear the artists take on their abstract work (the thought process between blank canvas and a finished product and hear about the deeper ideas behind their work). Cant wait to see whats coming next, keep up the amazing work guys!
Forest Bum Hi Forest, I am so pleased that I was able to help you in some way with your citiscapes.....I think they are my favourite thing to do as well....Cant help you with abstract work but i truely admire the imagination of artists who paint this way..... Many thanks again maryanne Holmes

this has been delightful to watch and hear your story. Your drawing of building are so good also. Did you learn that in your schooling or was that more natural to you? I have been working on painting for a couple years but have only had the chance to take lessons from youtube
char deplate Hi Char, thank you so much for sending your lovely message. i am basically self taught. i never had any experience at school but as i was learning , I did weekly classes with local artists and i went to summer schools at Bathurst and Toowoomba Unis. Hey there! I've been watching the channels water color videos and most of the artists don't seem to soak the paper for stretching. It looks like the paper is just taped to the board with some common tape. Is it just this? Soaking and stretching with butcher's tape is so messy O.o Wonderful videos!
Useless10000 Hi, sorry I didnt realise until now that I had all these messages to answer. I NEVER soak my paper. Everyone tells you to because it gives a smoother surface and no folds but no matter what size i am doing i usually just tape it to the board with masking tape. there is a way however to stretch it without too much mess. Just use a spray bottle, get your paper and spray thoroughly on the wrong side, turn over, tape (using masking tape ) to the board and lightly spray the side you are going to paint on...you will find that if you leave it overnight it should be sufficiently stretched to paint on. The tape may need a bit of help but will be OK.., I hate that brown tape used for stretching, cant get it off and the colour disturbs me hope this has been helpful Maryanne Holmes
Hi Charlie, there are only a few left. we will be printing more at some stage, but they are $65 dollars each plus $10 shipping. They are really cool all solid embroidery, you can put an order in through admin@colourinyourlife.com.au. Graeme

I went to see the American Watercolor exhibit, and they used white gouache quite a bit in their watercolors: Homer, Sargent, et al.....
It is marvelous to see how different artist paint! But I don’t understand why the background music?! It’s disturbing!
