I was gifted fourth wing for Christmas and as soon as I finished it I had to immediately buy iron flame, I’ve just finished reading both in under a week and now have been staring into space for the past 1 hour and a 1/2 (if you know, you know). one doubt..jack killed bide his dragon right..but he didnt die...which shows venin can stay alive without their dragons if they are riders and their bond to the dragons is severed...how does one even become a venin tho...like do they just draw from the source and kind of sell their soul?...so xaden is a venin does that sever his bond with sygale? cuz that wouldnt ensure him being alive...if all of this is true then naolin i.e, tarin's earlier rider mightve made a deal with venins to keep brendan alive and became a venin..which in turn severed his bond to tarin..which left tarin devastated and betrayed...correct me if i am wrong anywhere

Hi!, I have the same questions, my theory is that it the venins know that exist a powerful rider "Naolin" so they should get his power to be preparated to the war that its going to have place years after, all that we know is that Naolin "die" after he tried to revived Brennan but also in the story we know that Brennan still alive, but he never mentioned something about Naolin, i thing that Naolin use his signet to absorb the power of repair and revive brennan, after that he also need another power source so for that he was converted in to a venin and also he wouldn't need to chanel Tairn's fource so he disconnected from his dragon, and that would explain that also Tairn thought he die, or not and we don't know already.
So if Naolin was converted in to a Venin i thing he would want Xaden for revenge (that explain in the last pages of Iron Flame that the venin was playing whit him), but also to be abble to access and bring Violet to him. But the quenstion here is why?, i think that Naolin venin wants to have Xaden and Violet under his power to use them like arms to take all control of Navarre and Poromiel, and finally take revenge for the betrayal that they where hiding from them.
Although it is still not clear if upon becoming venin the riders decide to separate themselves from their dragon, or the dragon makes the decision, taking into account that it is known that Xaden maintains his bond with Sgaeyl...
