I loved that she was the lead. She's cute in her own way and a much more realistic choice for this plot. I hate when they say the main lead is "homely" or a part of the plot is that she's not beautiful and then they cast a classically beautiful actress. She is not too old, it's just we're not used to seeing average looking women on screen next to actresses who are already extraordinarily pretty and have had plastic surgery on top of it. Also I believe her makeup ages her because the actress looks younger in her everyday photos. She's also a great actress with good comedic timing. Her character is one of the more interesting I've seen in these c-dramas.

I'm intrigued by this drama. I like the queen's spunk. And I don't think she looks or sounds old; her voice has a beautiful lower timber. I've always thought high voiced actessess sound uncomfortably like children. And I really like how normal she looks, its extremely refreshing. I don't understand people commenting that they look "mismatched". I've met plenty of couples whose looks are very different from each other, and all you have to do is look at old paintings to see that has always been true. More importantly, why do their looks have anything to do with whether or not they can be in love???? What if the prince got horribly scarred in an accident; would that make him unworthy of love???? And just because she was born with looks that don't match a CONSTANTLY CHANGING standard of what is "beautiful", she can't be in love with a guy who happens to match that standard (for now)????? I'm sorry, but you all sound extremely shallow and judgemental.
I've never seen this show, but bc of the male lead being from another show i liked, and surprisingly having good, forward-thinking casting for this female lead-- I will watch this. The whole film is hilarious. I don't see the female protagonist is ugly as others said above. She is special in her own way and perfect for the king in the context personality-wise if you guys watch the whole film. This clip is just a part of the film, not the whole. You guys might wanna stress beauty should go with beauty, but comedy lies in how female lead and male lead with such yawning difference personality-wise at first and appearance-wise fall in love later. The soundtrack of the film is excellent too❤. All in all I love this film. I see the main female is not ugly at all, I love her personality and that's why I think she's beautiful and special.
That's her real voice though. Women have different voices, some have high pitch some have naturally low pitch. I actually prefer her voice over the childlike / squeaky sounding dubs for actresses in cdramas.

The reason her father paired her with the emperor instead of her adopted sister was because she was wise beyond her years and she could teach the emperor things other than book learning. He’s only been taught things he needed to know to be emperor, but he never had real-life experience or dealt with the people up close. She helps him understand so much more.
I cannot get passed her looks unfortunately. She is an ideal choice for supporting acting parts when romance is involved. I wld see her having a main character in a thriller, action or drama as long as there is no romance involved in the plot.

It'd literally be introducing a character who's the school's ugliest dude but it's Chris Hemsworth, and they even put makeup on him to make him look even more attractive.
