    Only good thing about the Sydney funnel web is that they can’t climb up walls etc like other spiders. So at least you don’t have to worry about them falling on your head like the huntsman spiders like to do here in Sydney

      You do, however, have to worry about the 2 arborial species of Australian Funnel Webs though... The Northern and Southern Tree Dwelling Funnel Webs (Hadronyche cerberea - Southern and Hadronyche formidibilis - Northern) as it's now considered that these are more toxic than the Sydney Funnel Web and both tend to envenomate with a lot more bites than the SFW.

    Black widows can be dangerous yes. But the brown recluse’s venom is far more deadly than they are.

    • @danielsilva-ds2u
      @danielsilva-ds2u Год назад +4

      Last death by a brown recluse bite was in 2004. Black widows still average 6 deaths a year today. Neurotoxin is was more dangerous than a hemotoxin. The real scary thing about a brown recluse is its hemotoxin causes necrosis, so you could have a large hole, bacteria can get in, gangrene but all of that can be treated with antibiotics. For a black widow, it's anitvenom, or test it out, and like the video, we are talking paraplegic or death. But I did hear of a guy take a widow bite and suffered the effects. Took like 32 hours before it was over. I don't think I would take that risk.

    • @cambuxton6835
      @cambuxton6835 Год назад

      @@danielsilva-ds2u not saying that they do not encounter more people and wind up biting them and an adverse reaction occurs. I am comparing pound for pound the damage the venom does itself. Brown widows are not as inclined to encounter people as a black widow. So they might not send as many people to the hospital as a result of that. But they have stronger venom than the black ones. The black ones just hang out closer to people than the brown ones. That is why they bite people more often than the brown widows.

    • @danielsilva-ds2u
      @danielsilva-ds2u Год назад +1

      @cambuxton6835 you said brown recluse not brown widow. Brown recluse venom is a hemotoxin and is by far less potent than the neurotoxin of a black widow. So do you mean brown recluse or brown widow? Because they are a totally different genus of spider species. But yeah the BROWN WIDOW does have a more potent venom than a BLACK WIDOW. But both of them have more potent venom than a BROWN RECLUSE.
      You can edit your original comment from brown recluse to brown widow, but to let you know, I replied because you said brown recluse not brown widow and they are not the same.

    • @cambuxton6835
      @cambuxton6835 Год назад

      @@danielsilva-ds2u sorry my bad. But brown recluse venom is a lot worse than black widow venom. Brown recluse are a bit more shy around people than a black widow. Hence their name. But they do wander away from their webs in search of food. That is where they generally wind up biting people. A black widow will sometimes wander around and run into people too. But if there is a female with eggs she will stay at the web with her eggs. But while the black widow will cause breathing problems if you are allergic, a recluse’s venom will always cause necrosis if it remains untreated. Pound for pound the venom of a recluse is worse.

    • @danielsilva-ds2u
      @danielsilva-ds2u Год назад +1

      @cambuxton6835 with all due respect, you are completely wrong. In the United States, the brown recluse bite is the most common spider bite treated at a hospital. Second is the black widow. That means more people on average are bitten by brown recluse than a black widow.
      Second there hasn't been a single fatality in the United States from a brown recluse bite since 2004, but 4-8 ( so let's average 6) people die every year in the US from black widow bites. I wonder if more people go to the hospital for recluse bites, but less die and less people go to the hospital for widow bites, but more die each year who has the more toxic venom?
      Which leads me to make point 3. It is already proven that the black widows venom is more than twice as toxic/potent than a brown recluse.
      Sorry bud, but whether you want to look at the venom pound for pound, or look at the survival rate after being bitten, the black widow is far deadlier than the brown recluse.
      Just listen to the venom comparison in the video. The black widows venom is more potent than a rattlesnake which is the most venomous snake in the US. More survive the widow bite simply because it shoots microliters worth of venom while a rattlesnake injects milliliters worth. That is a notation of the third power or let's just say 1000 times more.
      The scariest thing about the recluse is the hemotoxin. The bite is not very painful and it may take days before you notice the necrosis and by that time the venom has dissipated far enough in the surrounding areas that a good iPhone size chunk of tissue is going to need to be removed.
      The black widows neurotoxin venom can be experienced within less than an hour. You can catch it quick and take your butt to the hospital but keep in mind, about 6 people a year still die from a black widow bite. Where as, you could go a week with a recluse bite and by the time you go to the hospital, you at most will need amputation of the limb or skin grafts and antibiotics.
      That should be enough to tell you how much more potent a black widow bite is vs a brown recluse. Your body can tank a brown recluse bite and the doctor is gonna give you antibiotics to prevent infection from the crater the recluse bite caused.
      A black widows bite requires ANTIVENOM to prevent death or at the very least paraplegic. But like I said I have heard stories of healthy adults tanking a black widow bite too. But I would not recommend it.

  • @lukef5370

    I've been bitten by a Brown Recluse. That was 10 years ago. I'm still alive. A hole bigger than the size of a quarter developed where I was bitten, and it took a long time to heal even with medical treatment, but the other effects like vomiting nausea and pain only lasted a few days. I definitely wouldn't recommend messing with these spiders.

You have a much better chance of surviving and American brown recluse ( it's damn near 100%) than surviving a bite from its cousins ( it's still about 80-90% but you have to factor Americans easier accessibility to medicine, even if it is costly. a spider most definitely can kill an adult human. The difference between Snakes and Spiders is the amount of venom they can inject. Spiders most of the time have way more toxic venom than snakes but can inject a lot. Example, the black widow's venom is 15x stronger than a rattlesnakes but rattlesnakes still kill more people per bite because of the length of their fangs and the amount they inject. if any of the spiders on this list gets its venom into your bloodstream, you are going to die.

      There are no venomous spiders that we can say "hey, this is the most venomous in the world" because there are many species to be studied, like the australian mouse spider (Missulena Bradley), bites by these spiders are rare, they are not defensive spiders like the Sydney funnel-web, and they are known to bite without injecting venom, there are other species of funnel web spiders that belong to the genus "Hadronyche" that might be more venomous than Sydney Funnel-Web too, especially Hadronyche formidabilis.
      There are also nine species of Phoneutria, but only Phoneutria nigriventer is well studied, not much is known about the venom of other Phoneutria species, P. Nigriventer is considered more venomous than funnel web spiders, because of a toxic fraction called "PhTx-2" which is extremely dangerous for humans and other primates, some estimate that 1 mg or more like 3.5 mg is enough to kill a human.
      South American recluse spiders (Loxosceles laeta, intermedia, gaucho and similis, to be more specific) and african sand spiders (Hexophthalma) are probably the most venomous spiders in the world, because of very small amounts of venom, small fangs, and the fact that, they are responsible for more severe bites and deaths than any other spider in the continent, they produce just a few microliters of venom, they inject about only 0.5 to 1.0 microliters,
      In Chile, they were responsible for a severe systemic envenomation rate of 18.8%, and a death rate of 19.1%. In Peru, the death rate was 18% for those over 13 years old, and 50% for those under 13 years old, in Brazil, from 2017 to 2021 they were responsible for 37 deaths, more than the Funnel Web and the Wandering Spider combined (Wandering spider killed 11 from 2017 to 2021), in fact, they are the only spiders with a mortality rate comparable to that of a scorpion, and according to (I forgot the woman's name), according to her, the amount of venom injected is so small that it is difficult to see with the naked eye. She said that If these spiders were able to produce and inject venom like a snake, their bites would be always fatal, which is true, because even injecting few microliters, they have a mortality rate higher than funnel web spiders, and the only comparable to that of a scorpion, can a funnel web spider cause severe systemic symptoms or death injecting just a few microliters? No.
      It is like a boomslang, based on the very low venom quantities produced by the boomslang (D. typus), and the very serious effects found in a good part of the reported cases, the lethal dosage for a man would be only 2 to 3 mg, and because of this, some believe that the boomslang might be the most venomous snake in Africa. I'm sorry for my bad english, I'm still learning.
