  • President Julius Maada Bio has adopted a law banning child marriage in
Sierra Leone. Parliament approved the law last month, passing a bill
that criminalises marrying girls below the age of 18. Transgressors of
this law will receive jail terms of at least 15 years or a fine of
more than $2000. According to Unicef in 2017, the country had 800 000
wives under 18. Unicef's acting chief of child protection Neha Naidu
    has more.
