    Back in the 1980's I was just starting out backpacking and knew practically nothing about where to get gear or even what type of gear I needed. A friend of mine found this stove for me at a garage sale, cost me a dollar. I just dug it out today and started looking around the internet for it. Never knew there was that storage section in the pump tube! I had that problem with the fuel leaking out of the pump tube, somehow it fixed itself over time maybe with my help though I never knew what I did to fix it. Once it was fixed, it gave me years of trouble free use. Thanks for the video.

    I just pulled out my fathers M1950 that he acquired on deployment in Vietnam, and with the help of this video gave it a little service. Worked first go, but the pip seal cracked soon thereafter and consequently I had a bit of gasoline to mop up. I cracked open the spares in the plunger, replaced the pip, changed the vaporiser, oiled up the original pump leather, and I was good to go! Looking forward to using it this weekend on a trip. She’s theatrical to get burning blue, but it’s a fun experience. Good shit 👍🏼

    In this video Rodger’s 1951 stove repair it is important that safety comes first. When putting the pump back together you pointed out the danger of the pump pushing out when under pressure. This was very good, but as an extension too this people need to understand thy are dealing with a pressure vessel and should be tested for leaks. The pump housing seal is where the risk is greatest once the stove warms up. It is really important that the pump housing screws are done tight so that seal is most effective. Remember these stoves will blow up if poorly maintained. Dunking in water is a great way to test for leaks.. thanks Ken

    Those two units sound great running. Very smart use of space for storing extra parts on the Rogers unit. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for posting this. I just picked one up myself on FB Marketplace. I replaced all the gaskets (pip was leaking on mine as well) and it runs like a jet engine.

      Good to hear.
      Great little stoves for a quick boil but not so great for a simmer.
      Like you said a jet engine. 🤣 Thanks for watching and God bless.

    question, have head of people using a cap full of in tank carb cleaner to clean out generators, what do you think?

    • @colemanrestorationsrepair4171
      @colemanrestorationsrepair4171  2 года назад

      I have never tried it myself but it won't hurt anything. I have sprayed it through check valves to clean them without removing them before I got a tool and left it in the fount with no issues. Not sure how well it works for the generator

    Hey I see you dig these stoves. I have an extra spare clip and an extra diffuser (vaporizer) and needle if you want it. No charge! It always feels nice to have a complete unit. If you know, why does the one cook top leg have a sort of leaf spring on it?

      Wow… I happened to be playing with my stove and I remembered watching this video a year ago and thinking I offered you spare parts since you’re an aficionado of these old stoves. Quite sad to see that. I never got a response. 🤷‍♂️ still I hope you’re doing well, my friend.

    Nice video. I got a rebuild kit from Colman but when I pump it fuel comes out the pump handle dose a rubber seal go on top of the nipple and spring

    • @colemanrestorationsrepair4171
      @colemanrestorationsrepair4171  2 года назад

      You may have the pip assembly in backward. I think the spring will point down toward the bottom of the fount and the pup faces up inside the pump.
      Also did you replace the spring with a new one? If you got them mixed up or just didn't replace it then this could be the problem.
      You may have to give it a little stretch.
      Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

      Old Coleman parts has most any parts you need and you can find some on Ebay as well.
      Generally you won't need any parts to get these things running.
      Just a good cleaning is all you need and some neatsfoot oil for the leather pump cup.
      Thanks for watching and God bless.

    Thank you for this video, but I need instruction on the generator, repair and replacement, and my pickup tube may be an issue. Would love to see a video on that. So far for every 1950 video I seen the focus is only on the pip and spring housing. .... it helps, but is not complete. Thanks tho

      Thank you. I haven't had the opportunity to find a M1950 that needed anything more than a pip and spring.
      Kind of busy now but I I get a chance I will try to tare one completely down on video.
      Thanks for watching and God bless.

      The generator should be a really easy repair. Same procedure as on most lantern generators it's just short and stubby. It has a roll of brass mesh instead of paper packing. Just heat and quench multiple times until you can get the inside out.
      You should be able to boil it in vinegar and spray it with carburetor cleaner too clean it.

      I will try to post a link below but no grantees that Google doesn't flag it.

    Robert my m1950 burns great on full but it has no simmer. Is that normal?

    • @colemanrestorationsrepair4171
      @colemanrestorationsrepair4171  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes. The M1952 was built to boil water and boil it fast, and that's all it will do.
      If you want a military stove that will simmer, you might look for the older 520.
      Although it's not meant to simmer, you can tame the heat with the tip cleaner.
      Thanks for watching, and God bless.
