  • The tower of St.Cosmas & Damian Church in Duisburg/Germany is home to 5 bells in G A c d e (Sol La Do Re Mi), cast by Bochumer Verein 1952 (cast steel).
The bells were made for the ``Katholikentag`` in the same year, and given to this church soon after it (Katholikentag is the gathering of the German Catholics , which happens all 2 years (since 1950, before it happened in other intervals)).
The motto of the Katholikentag 1952 was ``Gott lebt`` (God lives),which can be found as inscription on Ludgerusglocke.
The bells are named Bonifatius (G/Sol),Ludgerus (A/La),Johannes (C/Do),Joseph (D/Re) and Maria (E/Mi), all bells are octave bells.
Made and installed in 1952, they served their parish until the 2000s, when most of the ringing equipment malfunctioned step by step - the parish had no money for great repairs.
The church was built in 1911, as the Catholic parish church Saint Bonifatius, after severe damages in World War II, the church was reconstructed and continued to serve as parish church until 2018. In 2018, the church was handed over to the Coptic Orthodox Church, which is using it now under the new name St.Cosmas and Damian. From 2016 on, the church was used by the Coptic parish, the Catholic parish (which had merged with several other parishes) continued to celebrate mass there until 2018.
For a couple of years, the bells had been silent, as all motors had failed yet - in 2017, the Coptic Church had asked me for a survey of the bells. Most churches of the orthodoxy are not favouring the use of electrical devices to ring bells, for theological reasons - that´s why the bells were conversed to ringing by ropes in 2018 by my company Ars Campana. This video was made in 2017 on Quasimodogeniti (the patronacy day of the Children of Quasimodo).
